I would suggest waiting for the new mmorpg's to come out this year. If you are very anxious like myself give FFXI a try. I enjoy it so far (level 19 Warrior).

Horizons got worse reviews. Well if you go to gamespot or ign you'll see they weren't too please with horizons, but FFXI got good reviews.

I was a beta tester for Horizons and just recently left. If you want to craft and love that only it's the best crafting system around as far as adventuring goes it is just pitiful. I don't understand the concept of theses game designers lately that want to do these player run economies only they never work. Take a look at AC2, SWG and now Horizons. Adventurers need incentive to adventure plain and simple. I say this being a long time gamer, an exstensive beta tester for many games over the years ( older gent here). I feel as if the industry has truly taken the fun out of gaming for prettier graphics and all this crafting nonsense. I hate crafting always have and when a games sells advertisement claiming they cater to both types of players and don't it's a recipe for disaster. I am truly disappointed with Dragon Empires been following it for 2 years now and very active on the forums there and they are going strictly with the player run economy as well and I will have nothing to do with these games anymore. I am looking forward to Lineage 2, Ultima X Odessey and of course WOW. I love the concept of WOW for drops and crafting let's say at lvl 10 the best weapon you could get for your toon would be a drop but at lvl 15 the best weapon useable to you would be crafted. If they can make this system work it would be a first and a great balance. If I was you I would wait for the next few months to see what happens. Seems Dark and Light is swaying more to a player run economy as well which is another disappointment. I won't even go into a rant about staying away from AC2 I beta'd and played the retail and it's simply horrible. My suggestion don't waste your money. On top of the above mentioned games EQ2 and Realms of torment are slated for release this spring as well alot of assorted competition for us to properly place our money indeed.

    Peace

Wait for the new generation of games like WoW or Eq2.  I played the kekekkorean beta for Lineage 2, probably the best asian mmorpg to date. That isn't saying much but it is probably the only asian mmorpg I have enjoyed so far and I tried them all pretty much.  There's scores of new mmorpgs on the horizon (not a pun) and even if they aren't an improvement on the current sea of crap you might as well get started at a ground level of a new one.

For the love of gaming stay away from final fantasy. Very pretty. Lots of stuff but as you get higher up you run into a little problem. It becomes almost impossible to find "good" parties that keep a constant flow of exp. So unless you like sitting for 1 to 2 hours waiting for a party stay away. However if this does not stop you then I would say take a shot, just don't expect much after level 30.

it's a brand name. Not a good game that people buy into.
