NWN2, the possibilities.

I was a long time player of the first NeverWinter Nights and all expansions. The main thing that attracted me to this game was the amount of customization that's available when creating and playing your character, it's something different. Another thing about this game is the aurora toolset, for those that don't know that this is, it's a toolset that let's you create your own module. Using this toolset you can create the RPG you've always wanted to, from indepth story based campaigns to fighting in deep dungeons undiscovered by others.

I recently watched the videos of NeverWinter Nights 2 at E3 and was not only amazed at the different look of the game, but the improvements to how the game works and how the toolset has been polished. In the first toolset it was hard for beginners to get into campaign making, if and when they did, they would be limited to the basic scripting that available to the toolset. In this new toolset shown at E3, they have shown new lighting, easier functions and the amazing ability to link modules. Not only does this make it easier for campaign creaters to set out their epic stories, but it allows teams to develop certain areas and link them all together.

Take this for an example, you could have a group of people create the starting module (like a planet or zone) which could include levels 1 to 10, tutorials and basic shops and buildings. Then have other teams developing dungeons, player vs player zones and ares, along with a whole area dedicated to roleplayers who enjoy spending time with their peers. These different teams could update their modules on a basis, this would keep it bug free and make the players happy if they wanted new content to be added. After creating all these modules and connecting them up, it could be hosted by someone in the community and opened for the public.

Not only is NWN2 free to use after you purchase the software, but it's too complicated for the children to understand.

I'm not sure about you, but I look forward to seeing what some of the creative people in this world decide to do with NeverWinter Nights 2, hopefully something along the lines of what I just told you guys.

Just a thought...

I havnt watched the video yet, but do you know if BioWare will have the free multiplayer servers for this like they do with 1?

I'm not sure, if they do have servers i'm guessing they'll be free.

Anyone else think NWN2 will be good?

Sure.  About how good is the character customization gonna be, in terms of general appearance?  It's always been a big factor in more online-based games for me.

It was my understanding that NWN2 will not be released with the DM tools. They're "not finished" yet.

I'm glad that they decide to do this, I dislike games that don't even go along with the story.

But the palettes are pretty broad with 20+ various shades and they look a lot more colorfull from first impression. For example, it looks like you can give a blue tint to your skin as an elf, etc. There are seperate color palettes for skin, eyes, face hair, hair, hair highlight, hair accessories (for female characters with jeweled headbands or something I would presume.)

I can't wait to do my characters coloring, it looks interesting with the 3 colored hair with tinting.

Last answer on that was that the DM tools were undergoing a heavy rewrite to get them up to snuff with the game and what the players wanted. Now that doesn't mean you cant build your own mods and stuff, just that you cant DM them. I'm sure it'll be seen in a patch pretty quickly, but IMHO do to the possible complexity of making your own mods (not hard, just complex) it'll take that long for poeple to get even the shortest and most basic mods done. :) Oh and the nasty rumor that they decided to scrap the DM tools all together.. is totally false.

I already know of a few big projects that will take atleast 3 or 4 months to complete.

Other then waiting for those modules, i'll be trying to understand the game as much as I can so when they're released i'll be ready to play.

NWN was an amazing game, i played it for 3 years, both offline and online. It's strength was, ofcourse, the toolset. Such an amazing community created tons of interresting modules, with epic storylines, new sweet models, PW's, and so on.. But after these years, one thing bothers me: D&D. Frankly, i'm pretty damn tired of it. It's not an interresting ruleset, imo. It feels.. Well, not right. If they'd base it on Warhammer Fantasy Roleplaying game 2nd edition instead, i'd be the first to join!

NWN was my first Multiplayer RPG experience besides rudescape (intentional mispelling, don't snag me like you guys always do), and I still play it to this day. It is so variable that who couldn't love it! I just hope they simplify the Aurora Toolset a bit more, because you really have to make a longterm commitment to studying it if you want any cool effects.

Other than the DM aspects, the sequel is bound to be holy, as its predecessor is. I can hardly wait for it!

You could make a pretty decent NWN module with hardly any scripting experience. Tools like Lilac Soul's Script Generator worked wonders.

I think youre a little confused. In NWN the toolset was released to the public prior to the game shipping. There will be no prior public release this time around. HOWEVER, the more prominent game world and module builders have been provided with the NWN2 beta version of the toolset and it is their feedback that will determine the final version.

Have no fear, worlds are already being built/converted.

I think NWN2 is not developed by Bioware but by Obsidian, the ones who developed KOTOR.

So I am not sure what is going to happen with the servers.
I think Atari has a big voice in this, and my guess is that they will supply free servers.
