First, no one knows what the actual sub numbers so arguing about them makes about as much sense as hanging around this board if you hate the game.
Second, media companies use whatever footage they happen to have. The guys who made that little 10 second clip probably wouldn't know the original game from CU or NGE if it landed on them. They where probably tasked with throwing a clip together, they got some SWG footage.
Next they make specific referance to current and in production games. Star Wars Lego II was announced THIS year. They also referred to Star Wars Battlefront 3 which hasn't been announced yet. (and the fact that SWBFII WAS -past tense- the best seller of 2005) They also referred to SW Empire at War, a new release. (and the fact a follow up was probably on the way, implying this was made after the release of the first and if memory serves it just released)
Did anyone actually listen to this? Or where you all focusing on which version some cut floor editor pulled off a promo shelf?
Is it a frickin surprise that SOE is making another expansion? I would be floored if they didn't. Although they do need to finish this damn game sometime in the next decade.

Yeah the video is almost a year old. They refer to May 2005 as just happening. So no not 36 months, not 24 months but more like 10 months. The big arguement is that there are not 250K people playing SWG right now. It is pretty obvious to me that there aren't.
LOL it says with a new expansion on the way (after JTL) so that would mean that was before CU becuase CU came out like what....1 week before the obiwan trials thing............hands down CU cripled the game and NGE killed it, not saying NGE and CU are bad games, (ok I am but back on point) just that they took a game that was fun and put a game that had "starwars in the name" in its place

Personally I would say that video is fairly recent since it mentions a release date for SW Lego 2 and Battlefront 3 which were only recently made public, but some of that info is really dated as well. For instance, in regards to SWG it only mentions JTL and doesn't say a word about ROTW or ToOW.
250k seems completely absurd given the state of the servers right now. Maybe 250k Station Access with some SW yearlong subs that haven't run out, but never get played...maybe. Doesn't matter to me anyway though...SWG is dead, all my friends are gone and its in my rearview mirror as a game. I just hope whoever does SWG2 is smarter than the current bunch because as far as I am concerned they aren't even qualified to write a spreadsheet.

Because SoE said they wouldn't release anymore server figures after the fiasco of the NGE, and the last figure that was released was 250,000 players. You can also tell this is an old video just recycled because they talk about an expansion to be announced soon, but they have stated over and over on the official SWG boards that they are not making any expansions till they get the games back on track and they weren't expecting one at all this year. The only thing I've disputed in this thread was the time that the news feature was shot (as a whole), which all evidence points to this year.
YES, there is stuff in the Galaxies feature that is pre-cu, but the review they're doing is recent. As someone pointed out earlier, it's likely that they grabbed whatever video clips they could find for the feature and slapped it in not knowing better. Poor form, yes.
As for the whole "people that play SWG now are immature" I suggest you look at the people supporting your cause. People such as akewlguy and the likes posting barely readable stuff, or those that are all "omgz you playz SWG? you r teh suxor" don't really help this argument stand up

Obraik I generally have a lot of respect for you because you fearlessly swim with the sharks over here without getting personal, caddy or ridiculous, but even you have to admit that 250,000 subscribers for SWG right now is waaaaaay off. I do agree with you that the actual video report was probably made recently, but the SWG stuff inserted in there is pretty old and is a completely unreliable subscriber number.
You can still like SWG but admit it only has a few thousand people playing. You don't have to defend their lunacy. I loved Earth and Beyond...and would still proudly play it if EA hadn't killed it...but I am also willing admit it only had about 50,000 subscribers at the time it was canceled.
To be honest I would be the first person in line to eat a healthy portion of crow if SOE made SWG worth playing again, but the chances of that ever happening are slim to none. All my friends from there left for other games, our formerly proud guild city is a ghost town, all my carefully collected resources are now junk and a friends list of hundreds is perpetually dark. Add to that the feeling of abuse and disgust over having a character I carefully built, equipped and planned ripped to shreds without notice or apology and I can't see me ever doing more than paying for a month here or there to say hi to my old haunts.
I was lucky and found a great guild in WoW which makes all the difference, but I admit sometimes part of me wishes I was cruising on a landspeeder instead of riding a horse or swinging a lightsaber instead of an axe. Thanks to SOE though those are nothing but dreams and memories.

Dont want to sound picky, but it was 40K on the highpoint and 25K when canned. I loved EnB too and would play it again instantly, despite the gfx (outdated) etc: It was just fun !
I DO think, that the current SWG numbers are NOT far from the numbers causing EA to shut down EnB... I do also think, that SoE is "accepting" this with the big vision of PS3 player in sight. What brutal wake-up when even the kiddes dont play their games cuz they crash all 5:19 minutes due to the hillarious amount of serious bugs - which PS/Xbox kids dont accept in any way.

I agree with you there on the fact that they should have NOT ripped the old game out on you guys and installed a new one. HOWEVER, the new one is not as terrible as you say, at least IMHO. It is a totally new style (and game) but that is what the problem for many of here you is, You have not accepted it is different. The old game wasn't "all that" either. It had just as many problems and was just as, if not more, unfocused and a mess. It wasn't Star Wars at all, it was "kill the Bol and re-grind a new profession galaxies". The cantinas where full of AFK entertainers, everyone was focusing on becoming a Jedi, the CU was just as broke as the NGE, the GCW was a non-event. The ONLY thing I like better about the pre-NGE was the skill system. Even that rubbed me the wrong way because of its disposible nature. No one keyed in on or really played a profession, everyone just dumped skills and did a regrind every few days/weeks. It wasn't a "sandbox game", it was a grinders game. Its just as much a sandbox now as it was then. Obraik I generally have a lot of respect for you because you fearlessly swim with the sharks over here without getting personal, caddy or ridiculous, but even you have to admit that 250,000 subscribers for SWG right now is waaaaaay off. I do agree with you that the actual video report was probably made recently, but the SWG stuff inserted in there is pretty old and is a completely unreliable subscriber number.
You can still like SWG but admit it only has a few thousand people playing. You don't have to defend their lunacy. I loved Earth and Beyond...and would still proudly play it if EA hadn't killed it...but I am also willing admit it only had about 50,000 subscribers at the time it was canceled.
To be honest I would be the first person in line to eat a healthy portion of crow if SOE made SWG worth playing again, but the chances of that ever happening are slim to none. All my friends from there left for other games, our formerly proud guild city is a ghost town, all my carefully collected resources are now junk and a friends list of hundreds is perpetually dark. Add to that the feeling of abuse and disgust over having a character I carefully built, equipped and planned ripped to shreds without notice or apology and I can't see me ever doing more than paying for a month here or there to say hi to my old haunts.
I was lucky and found a great guild in WoW which makes all the difference, but I admit sometimes part of me wishes I was cruising on a landspeeder instead of riding a horse or swinging a lightsaber instead of an axe. Thanks to SOE though those are nothing but dreams and memories.
Dont want to sound picky, but it was 40K on the highpoint and 25K when canned.
I loved EnB too and would play it again instantly, despite the gfx (outdated) etc: It was just fun !
I DO think, that the current SWG numbers are NOT far from the numbers causing EA to shut down EnB...
I do also think, that SoE is "accepting" this with the big vision of PS3 player in sight.
What brutal wake-up when even the kiddes dont play their games cuz they crash all 5:19 minutes due to the hillarious amount of serious bugs - which PS/Xbox kids dont accept in any way.
