I am very suprised at the reaction to Guild Wars in the MMORPG.com community as it is mostly instanced and not really an MMO. I like the game for what it is though. It reminds me a lot of Diablo.
If they were to charge monthly for it, though, I'd leave in a heart beat.
Stay on the WoW forums. Are you asking to get flamed?
Tell me, have you experimented with any builds? Have you gotten a complete set of FoW armor? Have you started alt characters for gold flow (55 monks)? Have you ever been in a guild with more than 40 people? How many characters do you have? How many are level 20?
Do all that, and when you have, come back and I will give you more stuff to do.
It is called "Guild Wars" how much more obvious could they make the point of the game? The idea of PvE is to become experienced with the controls and collect skills, from there the idea is simple; PvP, HoH (now HA) and GvG. If you don't understand that simple fact you have lost your eyesight and obviously cannot read the title of your game anymore... If you never became experienced enough in the 2 or 3 months it takes to get a character to level 20 and have a grasp on the game so you could start high level PvP, you should not be posting on this topic. For all you WoW fanbois out there who have spent half a year getting to level 60 and then realising that there is nothing left to do, take a look at a real game where you actually recieve game content past the highest level!
And on what do you prove this? The title of the game? I read recently in an interview of the dev (don't remeber the name) that PvP was there to give PvE players something to do when they'd finish the game. But they were surprised to see the PvP part of GW becoming that popular so they decided to work on it more, hence all the additions they added afterward to PvP. As a PvE player, I find this insulting to be told the game content is PvP when it's not.

I don't know where you read that developers quote (perhaps it's your turn to "prove" something ), but I highly doubt a "main" dev would have ever said that. At best they MAY have thought this early in development, but I've been involved from early beta (almost 2 years) and the PvP part was always HIGH on the agenda. What they did do was make it MUCH MUCH easier for those who ONLY wanted to PvP to do so. (For example, PvP only chars, unlockable-for-PvP skills, fully interchangable attribute points, and quite a few other things came in in later builds of GW, and who's to say some of them weren't planned from the beginning and just not implemented early on) I think PvP was always a main aspect of GW in dev's eyes, but I think they didn't realize that people would only want to do that, originally.
Either way, both the PvE and the PvP are excellent...so who cares.
Originally posted by Cableguy This game is not as intense as WOW. Making a guild sux, being that you have to pay 100g for one person to become a member. And the only excellent thing that makes this game good is the Guild Wars actually. If yer not in a guild that does a lot of that, everything else you do is boring. PVP is probably the worst I've seen, and the PVE isn't great either. Storyline is pretty good though, but not exciting to play. Go play WOW or WAR or Darkfall when they come out, not GW.
uhh....dude...im a wow player since release and i'm sure i know wow more than you do..first wow's pvp isn't that good..although i have never played gw before but i'm sure that gw will offer something better than warsong gulch - unfair teams... arathi basin - unfair teams.... alterac valley...horde paradise..... and the long ass queues.... the pve is fun from level 1to 59 and level 60 is end game. some pve lovers will not dig into thise 40 man raid crap and you know it. dude, you have no idea what you're talking about.. please learn your facts before posting a troll post. you have just been pwned verbally.. noob. please learn2post. kthxbye
93 votes, 46% saying GW rocks. A word of advice, next time you want to flame a game don't do it on it's forum, that's where the people who like the game talk! Now go back to your level 60 grind and your 40 person raids!!!
Originally posted by Darktongue Standard pvp in GW is tedious and mind numbingly boring. So long as you have monks to heal and become unkillable the games over. You can observe games where people cannot outdamage the heals. Its really unbalanced.
PUG pvp is so fuckin bad that i feel like demanding my monthly fee back even though there is none!
Not sure how anyone could waist there time posting that GW is inblanced,.
I dont play anymore till I grab factions but I did unlock all the skills/items in guildwars and have over a 120,000 faction points from playing randoms and 4v4.
I spent alot of hours playing a monk,.Im vary good at it to,.But there was many smart builds that killed my monk and left me useless,.Not to often but i did get owned from time to time as a monk.
Anyone who thinks it inbalanced didnt play as much as they think,or didnt put much time into the game at all.
In fact monks can be vary easy to kill at times,as can any build a player may have come up with.
some may say there is some inbalance, but most of the time its a awsome guild with great teamwork winning alot and giving the rest of the losers the idea of inblance problems.
Randoms/PUG to me is the most balanced,if you go in and custom your self to shutdown/kill a given build/builds you can tip the balance of allmost every fight all by your self,.but a bad team is a bad team,.end of story.
once apon a time everyone thot a warrior/monk was the best and unkillable, now they look like newbs using them builds and dont do all that well anymore.
Guildwars pvp will change all the time, builds get trendy and then they get old and owned by new ones. Its been 6 weeks since i played and theres no saying my 100% awsome builds will be effective anymore.
Critical thinking is a desire to seek, patience to doubt, fondness to meditate, slowness to assert, readiness to consider, carefulness to dispose and set in order; and hatred for every kind of imposture.
Just because you can't beat a build means your build sucks. Find another one. If you can't beat down a build, maybe you just suck as a player. Every build, no matter what one it is has it's weaknesses, you need to find it. I've played both WoW and GW. There's things about WoW I like over GW and there are things about GW I like over WoW. Maybe if you can't find a way to beat a build, maybe you should go back to playing outside with your friends. All in all, neither game I'm insane with. Both have it's merits, both have it's flaws. If you don't like a game, why complain about it? Why waste all that emotion into hating something when you could be doing something you enjoy.
OMG 100g Wow! That's a lot. I can't make 100 gold in 30 seconds. Whoop-de-bloody-do.
You would rather have 4000 level 60 players all trying to kill the same boss that only spawns once a day? Or how about the mage nuking an entire area over and over not allowing anyone else to take a kill. Or the hacker who attacks at a rate of 900 times per second and is not even at the computer? Instancing is the way to go, no losers get in your way all the time!
I hate this game. i dont like having to play with NPCs that eat exp and coin cause im not paying 100g to get some1 to help me or even be on my friends list. the high point of this game is ...the graphics and thats all i hear about this game. The other thing is i hate how other than in town, im the only one in the world, oh yeah and my NPC friends are with me. than again what can u really expect from a game thats free to play.
i dont like having to play with NPCs that eat exp and coin cause im not paying 100g to get some1 to help me or even be on my friends list.
Dude, you obviously haven't played the game enough even to realize that the 100 gold you pay is to invite someone to your guild, NOT put to them on your friend's list: that you can do absolutely free.
The 100 gold fee was instituted because people were tired of being spammed with invitations to join a guild (which is why I created my guild at the time and am the only player in it: no one bothers you when you're already in a guild).
Furthermore, it's incredibly easy to get into a pick-up group of players in this game, though I prefer henchies over PuGs. Henchies listen, don't bitch and don't leave with their first death.
No one cares if you don't like a game, but at least know why you don't like it before posting it for the whole world to see.

advice: if you want to bash down a game on a forum, you might want to at least play it long enough to have a vague idea what you are talking about. so you don t look quite as silly to people who actually do know the game.
P.S. if you want to play with other people, yes you have to invite them to your group! no it does not cost anything to do so! You have the choice to play with NPCs that take their share of exp and loot just like a real player would, so if you don t want to play with real players, you can actually play with npcs in your group with no drawbacks, that s a feature and soloability that no other mmo offered so far. however it s a feature than you can choose to use, or not. i certainly prefer real players who are more talkative the majority of the time
so are you complaining that you haven t figured out how to invite other people to your group and play with them? it s really not that hard you know.........

Eat XP? What in the world are you talking about? That's WoW. Not GW. As for you being in the world by yourself. Ok, come play in WoW with me, let me ignore you and kill the guy over and over again that you need to kill to finish up that quest.
And I can't believe everyone's so upset about 100g to invite someone into the GUILD (not friends list), again, I CAN MAKE 100 GOLD IN LESS THAN 30 SECONDS. If I focus (which is difficult since I'm in a weird gaming black hole at the moment) I can make 1,000g in about 30 minutes. If it's that upsetting to you, have the invitee pay the gold if they want in so badly. If you both want them in, Inviter and Invitee pay 50g. Really, once you get further into the game, gold is useless. 75k for 15k armor. If you have that much, 100g is like 1g to you, not that big of a thing. After that 15k armor, there's not much left to buy except skills which after a while, start costing you 1k each. Go farm with a group and then you'll see how much 100g is actually worth. If you play WoW, 100g is like 1 Silver.
Er, hold it on the XP comment. The more party members there are, the lower the XP rewards. Doesn't matter if they're NPCs or Players. And, yeah, the NPCs do get a share of the gold, but so would a player if they were there instead, so that's kind of moot.
Although, I'm kind of surprised that this guy didn't try inviting a player instead of the Henchmen. That's where this game gets fun IMO: interacting with people.
Is there now. Then I must have never noticed. (Someone admitting they were wrong OMG! :P )Even when helping others and asking about how they were doing when getting xp, it seemed like they were getting about average as to what I was getting when I did "x area a while back" and it didn't take me all that long really to hit level 20 in Prophecies. It did take me a bit longer, but that was because I got off and on help, so I didn't get to 20 right away and I hate pick up groups, so I never really did those to much either. But I do remember by the time Wintersday hit, I took a screenie of me with the santa hat and I was at lvl 17 and I started playing sometime in the beginning of November right after Sony Online Entertainment screwed all the players. So it took me about a month or so I'd say to hit 20.
i d like to add, that i played both WoW and GW for the last year actually.
i lost interest in WoW completely due to their raidcentric endgame mechanics, but still am happy as ever in GW.
what i found especially interesting is, that in WoW from lvl 1-60 pretty much everyone solos. grouping seemed to be the exception and only for instance dungeons and such wich were far inbetween on the way up to 60.
in GW however i grouped with other people every single time i played. i could have taken henchies, but since the game mechanics allowed for grouping up for specific tasks so easily i played almost always with other people.
in WoW it always felt like an "effort" to make a group, and you d need at least 3-4 hours to a dungeon at the upper lvl end (50-60). in GW grouping was so natural that even when i just had 30 mins i quite often did a mission or quest with real people. but if i wanted to i could actually also take npc henchmen and be totally independed to screw around while not messing up someone elses gameplay. i liked that concept a lot more than WoW that felt "lonely" from 1-60 and "forced" at the endgame.

Wow... that's all I can say, you obviously know absolutely nothing about this game! First of all getting into a party is the easiest thing in the game, just say you are looking for a group and BAM 10 invites! Secondly it costs 100g to invite someone into your guild and not to add them to your friends list, come on this one is just lame... Not to mention the fact that you can make 100g in about 13 seconds. It's instanced... If you think you're the only one in the world when you go outside a town without a party of other people then you are right, it was designed that way and it's an MMO you are supposed to play with other people! If you have forgotten MMO stands for massively multiplayer online, which means that you are not the only one in the world and you are supposed to interact with other human beings. If you are not a social person you are probably better off sticking to something that doesn't involve anyone but your "NPC friends." The fact that it is f2p is amazing because there is an entire list of games on this website that are 100 times worse than gw and are p2p. Dude, at least get past level 1 before you try to comment on a game!
YOU PEOPLE ARE PSYCHO! omg, WoW is SOO cool... Yeah ok... obviously WoW was your FIRST MMORPG... get with it people. WoW had the worst PvP ever... lol I could almost say EQ origional had better PvP :-P good old arenas... get over WoW... It's uber lame... and will eventually fade out within the year or 2...
Man WoW fanboi here OMG..I liked WoW but comon I am not paying for a game that I also have ot buy thats like buying a toilet that i need to pay to flush cmon.

Even free the servers are better than WOW.
Less lag,
Not down one day a week for maintenance
You dont have to queue to get on.
I guess thats one of the advantages of instancing.
To all the people who hate GW - you are entitled to an opinion and no-ones going to hold a gun to your head and force you to like it.
On the other hand - you already bought the game so aanet already got their money from you - thanks for playing
