I have literally played every big name MMoRPG out currently.
I Have beta tested the following in closed beta:
World Of Warcraft
Dark Age of Camelot: Shrouded Isles, Trials of Atlantis, and Catacombs
Lineage 2
Everquest 2
City of Heroes
D&D Online
Out of all of my experiences in all of these games, the times that stand out most were in the game of Dark Age of Camelot.
They have made many strides in player balance, class updates, and game content.
The best server to play on currently would be Gareth (Classic). Classic, which means it has every expansion except for Trials of Atlantis. Trials of Atlantis added alot of PvE Content, which most players did not like. I personally liked alot of the things Trials of Atlantis brought to the table.
Dark Age of Camelot's PvP is undoubtedly the best in the industry currently. The seiges can range from 3 people with a catapult, against 1 person defending the keep, and or tower. There is a number of seige equipment that can be used to destroy the walls, and or doors, to get to the keep lord. Defeat him, and claim the keep for your guild, and the honor of your realmmates will follow.
I Give Dark Age of Camelot a 8.5 out of 10 Possible Points.
Want to give it a try for yourself. Here is a link which can branch off to other expansions with screenshots, and a link to a 14 day free trial. Before the 14 Days are over, cancel the account or you will be billed for a month.
I played alot of MMORPG games, but i didnt like them all... Most time i spend on WoW. But now i dont like it. Dunno why... maybe it takes too much time? For example - to to go to Molten Core or another big inst. And it's realy boring sometimes.
I like pvp in games so Vanguard is off my list. Im getting tired of guildwars. I'll risk saying dark and kight is the next thing coming out that has any appeal. Kinda complicated tho so I dont no.
Why od most mmo developers think grind is the same as complcated?
oh and ive been at the dark and light thread here. guss i will get flamed now
Best casual- WoW or CoH/CoV a toss up, CoH/CoV is more casual and a lot mroe creative, but WoW has a little more depth (can't believe I just said that without choking)
Best PvP balance- Classic DAoC server
Best all out PvP- L2
Best overall PvE- EQ2
Best player factions- MxO (hate the game now, but love the in game radio stations and such)
Not played WoW for a long time, got bored becuase i over played it which i kinda regret now. Played nearly ever mmorpg listed on this website and nothing has kept my attention more than WoW.
My first mmorpg was myth of soma, ill always say this was one of the best games ive ever played at the time, even though the graphics are 2D. Gameplay, community, items rocked, whilst also having the best stat system i have ever seen
Meh, the only "real" MMO Ive played other then FFXI is WoW. Id have to go with FFXI being the best, but that's just my biased opinion since I play it. WoW was also really fun, but some of my friends tell me it's really fun for about 4-5months. Imo, FFXI is the best in the long run, I havent really been bored from it yet and Ive been playing for 2 and a half years and counting. Only problem with FFXI is it's pretty boring to get going, not too basic.
It really just goes with what you enjoy, if you dont like games that take a bit to get into, then FFXI probably wouldnt be for you.
I'd have to agree with Vayava..FFXi has the best storyline.I played that game for over 2 years and yet there was alot of things i didn't like. The game had the best looking characters[TARU]will never be topped by any game as the cutest looking character ever. The game has a great overall feel to it with its mapping and texture useage.Eq2 does alot of things right ,i mean A LOT. But geesh ,have they ever changed the texture useage from eq1?.I strongly doubt it.I mean they even re use ALOT of the game meshes over and over ,even in there expansions.
WOW is just a cross of other MMo's,that swallowed up the new wave of gamers ,that just like to level as fast as they can.In eq2 i found myself frantically doing quests to get the next best weapon/armour.However in FFXi i actually just played the game and enjoyed it ,that is until the asians turned it into nothing more than a gil selling game ..grrrrrrrrrrrr.I'd have to say >>>
FFXI 8.5/10
eq2 8/10
whole pile of other games grouped into the 7/10 category.Quake and Unrealtournament are the best games of all time IMO for innovation and overall gameplay, but those are my 2 picks for the MMO genre.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
I dont believe that anybody has posted ATITD, II or III, they are both great, ive been playin ATITDII for about 3 months now, and III beta for 2-3 weeks, and i cant wait for it to go live, , there isnt another MMORPG like it that ive seen, its just pure brilliant. Another great is Puzzle Pirates, its just so fun, you get to act like a pirate, what can be more fun than that!
Wow dude i checked that game out and its horrible,i lasted not more than 20 minutes and said this is total 10 year ago junk. The interface is archaic and the players look like stickmen and move like stickmen too. That game engine looks like something a bunch of students made up for a school project.Oh well if you like it,all the power to ya.No word of a lie,i wouldn't play it if they paid me...geesh i'mn not sure how much i could be bribed to play it,,for sure would take more than $500 a month.

What's up with everyone thinking Vanguard has no PvP?
It was stated that Vanguard will have servers with diffrent rulesets, and AT LEAST one PvP server at launch
I have to say that i think DAoC was the best MMORPG put out, the pvp was balanced, but my only problem was that the classes became unbalanced after a while and certain factions were more overpowered, and also its now literally impossible to PVP without a second account buff bot on the server i played on (Iseult) I tried to get back in for 2 weeks but it was way to different.
Theres a lot of good games of there but which is the best.... hmm
3D MMO's Im gonna have to say...
1.DAoC is a well balanced game with a good world, features and Story Line.
2.DDO is fun but also very challageing and frustrating....
3.EQ2 is a good game played it for a while but in the end got very boring and repetative =(.
2D MMO's (and crap kind of 3D games lol)
1.Runescape good game awsome that it runs on just a web browser. A good game to try over the summer or just for a year. Also very nice that almost 50 or 60% of the game is free but be warned this game is highly addictive but will get borring and ver dull after around 5 to 7months of gameplay.
2.TBA is an ok game (still curently in beta but will be launched in a few days) that once again runs totaly on a webbrowser. The game has poor graphics but that doesnt defeate the whole game. A good communinty (not very populated yet) but all the same kind. A fun game all in all.
3.Eternal Lands (in beta) a fun game to start now and mabey only continue it a few months. A well rounded game that can be played by all.
Hope these Help,Austin
Currently Playing: Earth Eternal (Closed BETA w00t!), Eternal Lands, Magic World Online, ACE Online, Dark Orbit, Dead Frontier, Wizard 101, SpellCasters, America's Army, Dungeon Runners, Runes of Magic, DotA ----***I ONLY PLAY F2P MMORPG'S!***---- (A lot of these games I jump around too, I'm most dedicated right now to Earth Eternal and Eternal Lands...)
Very few mentions of EVE Online, probably because it has a stiff learning curve and is not for the casual player. That said, I've been in and out of Guild Wars, SWG, COH, COV, WOW and EQ. EVE has kept my interest like no other MMORPG. Why?
It's massive - much bigger than anything else, despite what the game literature says
It's diverse - incredible array of options, scenarios, roles, ships, professions, dungeons, missions, manufacturing, pvp, pve....the list goes on and on
It's beautiful - just see the screenshots, or the trailers
It's not for the solo player - once you're in a real corporation (guild) options are open to you that are simiply unattainable playing solo, either because of cost or difficulty. The corp keeps you playing, in a strangely and scary way
Worth checking out if you've got bored with yetanotherversionofthefantasymmorpg and want a very different online experience. Not for the faint hearted though, you have to stick with it....pretty soon you'll find it's sticking with you.

I like WoW but im biased in that because im a WoW lore geek and WoW fanboy at times
other than that City of Heroes is fun if you find what you like and keep at it

I would say best PVE is clearly EQ not EQ2, EQ as WAY WAY more depth and content then EQ2. Then again, eq2 isnt as old as EQ.

It really just goes with what you enjoy, if you dont like games that take a bit to get into, then FFXI probably wouldnt be for you.
Story Line : The Saga of Ryzom
PvE: World of Warcraft
PvP: Dark Age of Camelot (Hopefully WAR soon)
Factions: EVE
Grind: Lineage II (had to do it)
still tops in all catagories
4 realz....
jk. not since they added ninja's. my word!

Seconded best skill system, nicest community, and best storyline by far
Well, I think still is EverQuest for PvE and for PvP I can say World of Warcraft, If I choose between both I choose EverQuest.
So far in my play list: (EQ, EQ2, Lineage, Lineage2, DAoC and WoW).
I played them all for a good time, EverQuest is my favorite.
And of of the upcoming MMORPG, I am looking to Vanguard: Saga of Heroes.
