Space MMORPGs?

Hey, I was a huge fan of Earth & Beyond, until it got taken down (damnit), and Eve is fun, however it's still a tad slower than E&B.

Are there any other spaceship RPGs out there? Or any ones in development? I'm not hugely into the MMORPG scene so I'm sort of lost when I try to look around.

Give SWG a try (free trial at www.tryswg.com).  The trial has a bit of space stuff involved in it so you can get some idea of what it's like.

    I'm not the only ooone....

    Anyways...

    Starport makes me

(It's in fact a really good sci-fi space game, with a nice community and fair graphics. And it's free. Mind tho that it's extreme PvP and can be very harsh)

One question before I uninstall Starport. How many players do you experience? Because 48 isn't really MMO... I can play Freelancer if I want those numbers...

Space Cowboy & Time of Defiance = not space themed MMOs.

I really don't think theres any other multiplayer spaceship RPG in development out there. Unless Dark Star One was to go multiplayer.

Jumpgate is a pretty good mmo...but I havent played it in awhile

SWG blows goats as a general rule, but the space side of the game isnt really all THAT bad

Freelancer isnt exactly a mmo, but the multi-player servers are cool, and its fast action.

The concept of SGE is more that of a MMORTS. You're constantly fighting all other players that have assets in the galaxy. It's not the player that is online that is dangerous (tho they are of course) but it's their empire. The potential they have when they are online and the vast space their empire occupies when he's not online.
The mere fact of a ranking makes expansion a must. It's a completely different concept from most mmo's and many Pure PvP games don't even have it.
It's an entire new level of gameplay. Note that you can't log out and that you are (mostly) open for an determined attack, even if theres 50 fully defended colonies bewteen you and the enemy.

And I wonder with how many people one interacts a day in an mmo. More than 20? In SGE every player has a role and a place in the galaxy. Even tehe newest. In how many games can you get in contact (harmfull or not) with the veterans on the first day? Few.

SGE is unique in many aspects, and believe me that it's more epic in many ways than Lineage 2 or EVE.

Probably. But it's not what I'm looking for. When I want to play RTS, I'll play Wc3x. It seems to be a bit fun though.
    But is 50 players MMO?

Don't forget that STO as it is to be developed will be an instance based, pve carebear hugging joke.  Only pvp in holosuites? rofl, what a waste of time, I may as well hit the arena in GW, I'd get the same kind of action.
