I have noticed, on a the SWG, and few other forums, that a large number of Vet's are returning to SWG. I find this trend disturbing.
I had hoped that the little show at E3 would help people ( those that hate the NGE, but yet still play ) see that These Dev's will never give us our game back. They want to give you a little player event instead of actually fixing the problems , and bugs. I had hoped, that the higher up's at SOE would see all the Out cry, and canceled accounts. And decide to clean house, by firing Smed and some of these Dev's. I still hope everyone who loved this game to remain strong, and continue to boycot the NGE....But....I sence a disturbance in the force,
I for one will continue to hold out, until something is done

You bet!
Me and other 5 of my guild mates are returning to SWG for good. This game is awsome. After sme fixes and tweeking Devs made a good job. I think we will see more and more Vest everyday.
NO ONE is returning to SWG. The forums are as dead as the servers. Most posts under "Game Play Discussion" have single number replies. Once in a while you get a hot topic and you will see alot of posts but that is usually because people are flaming each other.
This game is done .... there is NOTHING that can revive it. The only thing that may help is preCU servers ... but that will NEVER happen.

What are you talking about?
Forums are inactive cause everyone is having fun in game and not flamig. I even say more the servers are very populated now. Just try to log on Bloodfin server is overpopulated. Thats why there is so much lag in game thats because there to many players playing and that causing lag. I mean it.
This game is faaar from dead. Give it sometime and in next 6,12 month you will see a dramat ic changes that will make you wish to play.

WTF are YOU talking about????? You are SOOOO much not telling the truth. There is NO doubt in my mind you must be an $OE employee .... pretty obvious with your recent reg date. This game is DEAD and to say ANYTHING different would be a lie.
There is NO server in SWG that is OVER populated ... now I KNOW you are an $OE employee. There is lag in the game because the Devs can't write code. That is why NOTHING has been fixed in two years. Publish 28 was a complete disaster that made people lose levels when they tried respecing from the "Respec NPCs" ... I mean like people went from level 90 to level 55 and they had to live with it because $oe couldn't fix it.
Give this game time??? Are you REALLY serious???? SWG was in development for 4 years before release in June '03. It is now almost 3 years later. In addition $OE said right after the NGE was released "Give us 6 months and you will see a polished game." Well .... HELLO???? SWG is at the 6 month point after the NGE and the game is STILL crap.
I rest my case.

I hate the NGE
Whatever about the forums being dead or not, a game with a big subscriber list will have alot of posts of the forums even if it is just people bored at work or the PvPers flaming each other.
Nothing could make me play SWG or any SoE game again and the only thing that might show up in 12 months that would be a drematic change would be a new NGE. If you honestly belive anything there will change fast now your in for a huge disapointment.

No thats when they are going to fix NGE. I think NGE in current stayt not so Star Warsy but believe me, in next year or so Devs will make all things right. So its just a matter of time but for now you have time to prepare your self for the great upcoming publishes.
Oh yeah and I noticed that indeed more and more peaople are returning to SWG. There is even starting to shows up some guys from Fightclub on Bloodfin. I talked with one today and he said that Devs are in the right direction and more ppl from Fightclub will come next week. So its like there 10-20 ppl that flaming on forums about SWG suck and so on and about 1000-1500 ppl that actualy returning to this game in the next month.

Ah, exploiters are returning.
1000-1500 new players? Whoopty freekin do. That's great. I hear that's the ammount of people that get banned in WoW every day.
FFS, Guildwars has almost 1000 people across all instances of any main city.
And a little /hint for you.
Yup, they are coming back, but they won't be staying. Every returning Vet I've talked to came back to see if the game was fixed, or to see the new combat changes.
The funniest thing I've heard: "BLEEP?? They STILL haven't centered the camera??? Didn't SMED say he hated it???
There are a lot of players waiting for the new combat changes to hit TC, which has already been delayed. After that happens, we'll probably see another flood out.
Oh, and even though there are more people playing than 4 months ago, it's still dead, no matter what the Fanboi's tell you. A friends who is a WoW boy decided to try SWG now, and he keeps asking me where everyone is. Everywhere he goes outside of Mos Eisly is dead.
I'll start my own SWG... with Black Jack... and Hookers!!!
In fact, forget the SWG!!!!
They must have hired outside people to come in and fix their /cough .... mistake. Too bad they stupid devs couldn't have fixed the problem BEFORE pushing it out to the playerbase ... typical BS from $OE.

Word on the wire is that they are returning in trickle but noticeable none the less. Resubbing for a test drive for one of several reasons:
1. They want to see if there has been any improvement
2. They miss their good memories and familiar haunts
3. Thier online friends have returned to try as well
4. There still is not a suitable replacement for the game on the market at this time.
5. Its been a bit of time since SOE has REALLY screwed the pooch so for some - anger has subsided.
I have been sorely tempted myself - not because of any promises or fixes to game play but because I miss the wind and dunes of Tat. The forests and dangers of Endor. I also miss passing by memories.
However, I, myself, will not resub - not because of any planned protest to show SOE what the result for betrayal is nor because paying them now would only reward their efforts. I will not return because I AM a RANGER. If I return - that AM becomes a WAS. Cold day in hell.
In the end, some vets returning will stay, others will go. SOE will continue on with its plans. Most likely they will do something else to piss off thier community and yet appease others. We are not the first nor will we be the last to experience this firsthand - as this saga has been going on since Beta. When a suitable replacement comes, I will play it and so will others and perhaps it will raise the bar high enough that both communities will benefit.

People re-subbing temporarily to see what the changes are does not = the game growing.
*zzzzzzzz*
Nothing short of a frontal lobotomy could convince me to re-sub to SWG at this point. I just don't need that kind of frustration in my life anymore. Not knowing from week to week what part of the game they'll rip out and replace with something more "Star Warsy and Iconic" is enough to drive you to drink.
Currently Playing: Dungeons and Dragons Online.

Nope, just the usual CSR staff delt with it. Anyone that had lost levels were told to send in a ticket, then the CSR would check the logs to see what level they were before the respec and then restored the levels they lost.
But very few people are actually pre-cu freaks. They like the game because to them it was fun. But there is plenty of fun to be had elsewhere, especially once you realize that the old game is gone.
Anyone who was truly in pre-cu took combat merely as one of the options. Jedi was another option. Crafting yet another.
There are pre-cu-like games out there. And those looking for similar concepts have already moved there, for good.
Only people who still want pre-cu back are those hanging around, and they are few and far in between. In the end, it's about having fun, enjoying your gaming time. And this is something that other games indeed offer. Lots of fun, little hassle, novelty effect, different faces, different crowds, new concepts, new worlds to explore.
And once you try other pickings, even those diametricaly opposite to pre-cu, you realize how poor offering SWG really is. It's not the same, it's mostly completely different. But it's enjoyable.
And waiting for 6, 12, 18 months for a game to get fixed gets old. In that time, people will go through several other games, find new concepts they like, find out that other companies (even if they are only about money) do things differently.
SWG is stuck with the ever diminishing crowd of those that stuck with it from the start. Most of them never played an MMO, nor they ever will again. Many of those never were into the games, so they stuck around solely because of non-game-like sandbox world, combined with SW theme.
But attracting crowds? Nope. Very few SW, if any, SW games succeeded because of SW. Those few gems that did apear from the genre did so because of excellent gameplay. SW was just an easy theme to put it into. My guess about quality SW games would be: X-Wing, with TIE-fighter sequel and KOTOR 1. There might be another odd game in there, but go to LucasArts site, and see how many SW licensed games are out there. It puts things into perspective.
I think I'll hold out with ya man. Things aint the same there and never will be more then likely.
Heres hoping to swg2 or something who knows.

I bet 1mil ISK this guy is an $OE employee on some level or another.
"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience"
CS Lewis
@agricola,
No, I can confirm that some of those Bloodfin guys he mentioned are indeed coming back, but mainly because they functioned as a big clique. They went to WoW together, and since a few of them came back, more will follow. But they're flakes, so they'll probably be gone in a few months.
Furthermore, the fact remains that those guys are part of a bigger group of Bloodfin exiles, and the majority of those exiles have completely sworn off the game. If they get bored of WoW and (for whatever reason) decide come back to SWG, it'll only be a temporary fix. [Edit: IIRC, the WoW guild had some 250+ members recruited almost entirely from SWG.]
Funny enough, that's SWG's main strength right now. It's the "best" SciFi MMO out there and nothing else compares. But it still sorely lacks, so it's being treated as a niche game for the next great SciFi game.
Anyway for all of the current players sakes, I hope SOE does indeed deliver this time on their promise to make the game better this year, because when a competent SciFi game comes to light, SWG will bleed to death.

I've found that while the game is reasonably stable, it's not the game that it once was. After six months, the iconic professions are not much better than when the NGE went live and they are a far cry from the original professions.
Ground combat is a complete joke.
Itemization is a complete joke.
The graphics engine is really showing its age. The character models, the terrain engine, ground spawns, mob skins, etc.
Crafting? Don't even get me started. As bad as I felt for Creature Handlers, at least they had a quick death. Crafters have had a long and agonizing death.
The only redeeming feature of the game is the part that went largely untouched, which is the space game. It's still a lot of fun for me and it's by far the only thing that this game offers that no other game offers. Take out the space game and you have a poor man's rushed imitation of WoW or EQ.
So, I'm doing space missions and decorating my home on Tatooine. if I get bored, I'll go pick up a bounty and kil some poor schmuck in 4 shots. Maybe go do some of the legacy quest, but at level 88, it seems kind of pointless.
Player cities are ghost towns. There is more activity in new places, like Mos Eisley, but the traditional hot spots are dead.
To break it down: yeah, the E3 video piqued my interest, but when you break it down, they are blowing up Restuss and putting in a GCW that should have frankly been in place 3 years ago. Now, after most players have left and other games have come in to fill the PvP niche that SWG could have filled and dominated with a properly-done GCW, it seems to be too little and way too late. When you think that this game launched in 2003 with instanced battlegrounds that had to be shut down almost immediately due to technical issues that were never solved and you see other games such as WoW and Guild Wars that came in and did it successfully, you really realize that SOE missed a huge opportunty. But let's face it-- SOE is not about being a visiionary in the MMO field anymore, if they ever were.
I loved the game. I was there when it launched. I was there through the various CU. I was there with the NGE. But frankly, this game is pretty much nearing its end. It launched prematurely and never fully recoevred. And the NGE and the horrid way that SOE handled it was the last rivet on a sinking Titanic.
Anyway, I hope that sheds some light on this. I wouldn't call the game a complete disaster, but for what the NGE did, I wouldn't say that it was worth it.
