Err......well, if you're unsure, just follow the missions that you're given, which will help you learn more about the game and the setting. That way, you'll quickly work out which aspects you enjoy.
start with a rpg char try making or joining human groups before going alone with the henchs dont be afraid to join guilds , and if you dont like them quit and search for another
Yeah just start out with role playing, the main goal of the game is to unlock sa much skills as you can so that you can play pvp characters. so just play the story line. good luck

1. Buy the Game 2. install the game 3. enter serial code 4. mess around with multiple characters to get a feel for them to see wich classes you like 5. pick a class, make a rp character and have fun 6. atfer you got a feel for the game you might also want to try pvp, either with your rp character or a newly created pvp character 7. have fun
i disagree with the above poster, main goal of the game is to have fun imho.
I dont think you should get guild wars but I do think you should get FACTIONS! becuase you dont need original guild wars to play factions, and since factions is already out I say get that!!! its getting better and better!!!
I have to agree with bob on this one, the original campeign of gw is far better for the first-time gw player. More content and a better learning curve. Start with gw, get the handle of it and THEN buy gwf.
Factions is way better but if u want to get into PvP an get shock an all that u will have to buy GW, but if ur in for the PvE Factions is way better.

If you want to do PvE mostly, get Prophecies first. It will give you the backstory as to everything that is going on. Then you can upgrade to Factions and continue on.
If you buy Factions first, you'll get the 2nd chapter and then go back to the 1st where you will miss a lot of the original story, as when you travel to Tyria you don't start in the starter city, you start near 1/2 way thorough the Tyrian campaign.
If you just want PvP I'd still recommend Propheices first, as there are some elite skills you can't get in Factions. There is one big one for Warriors but I can't remember name offhand (I don't play a warrior). But apparently it's really good in PvP situations. A warrior may be able to name this skill for me.
