Getting killed a lot by other players...need advice

napalmswebnapalmsweb Member UncommonPosts: 150
I am new to EQ2 and am only lvl13. I am loving the game but so far, whenever I play commonlands, I get killed by orange name tagged players. In the span of an hour in the commonlands, I will get killed 2-4 times when I am just doing my thing and minding my own business.

Not to be totally naive but why are these players killing low lvl players? I mean, it takes no skill to kill someone 7 lvls under you and the fights are over in a matter of seconds. Does it make them feel like they have a huge e-penis? I honestly don't get it. Also, is there any advice on lessoning the likelihood of getting killed by these types of players (I guess rolling in a group helps). Finally, when they kill you, do they get some of your money or gear? Should I be putting my money in the bank before hitting the commonlands? thanks

Yeah it's annoying because the game is zoned and feels sooo small compared to having to travel in WOW.

Money + gear so yes store money in the bank. My advice is to play on a PvE-server until you learn the different classes strengths & weaknesses. Solo instances is where you will be earning your xp most of the time on a pvp-server.

Yeah it's always a good idea to put all your money and items in the bank. And there's always yellow orange con there will hunt you, thats the way it is on PvP servers, if you dont like PvP you should go play on a PvE server. Cus they will keep going on with hunting low lvl players, they get status for it.

Totally unrelated considering he makes no mention of bell camping and CL is a big area anyhow. So why you brought up zones here is well beyond me .

To the original poster.Unfortunately, you will have to do the old thing on pvp games.Close your eyes and keep going.

Even 2 levels in this game makes a huge difference. My best advise is group or start a group and do things. This makes travelling in numbers much safer and the lone gankers will always stir clear of you.

Currently they are listening to some of our spams and have removed you losing infamy if a grey is killed.Sadly as the pvp armor/weapons are bought by factions which you get by killing greys too this behaviour will not stop.

On the forums we are not asking for grey killing to stop as its suppose to be hardcorish kind of pvp.But we ask is if attacked you as a grey or even green should NOT get exp debt.We already won the infamy part so lets hope we get the exp part. Also i recently made mention of no exp debt if attacked while mob engaging.

Also look to your gear-try get gear with resists asap.Things will get worse as DoF and KoS has NO pvp limits at all!

So best bet is keep at it and level up and have fun doing it.You get killed laugh it up and continue. As long as you remember its a computer game you will be able to go thru it.This happens in most pvp games anyhow.

If you are grey to them they do not get loot/money unless you are green+ to them.Banking regularly is ALWAYS a good idea even if you are level 70!

Also remember the golden rule on a PvP server. Keep your mouth shut if you get ganked. The gankers do their thing for the only reason of ruining your day, and they like it the most when someone mouths up.

So, play it cool and keep the chin up. Play smarter, not harder. Group more, make friends, create a network. Then you will see who laughs last :)

Dotn worry OP if you are a mage you will preatty much be sought out for a quik kill, as a mage, if you are hit by surprise by a ranger/assasin.....well any scout, your done.

Otherwise it just takes some time, i actually think the PvP has gotten less gank infested and more group oriented which is good.

And for the record i have never greifed/ganked the only time i have killed players specificly grey ones is if it is a large battle/raid type of situation.  Ive actually left 'Ganking groups" cause i know how much it sucks to be hit by 4 oranges while your just minding your own buisness

I honstly believe that most people dont gank,  it is maybee About 10% of the total population that does nothing but gank because...well they are making up for there defficiancies in RL

so dont worry about it OP hang in there and things will look up PvP dosent even get fun until post lvl 20

The new EQ2, better than ever befor !

Thanks for all the responses guys! I am now lvl 16 (wizard) and I have an invisibility spell (lasts 10m) so I can now generally navigate the CL without getting ganked. I tend to now pop out of invisibility to kill someone on my quest log and then go back to invisibility. I also have the attitude now that the game world (CL in particular) can be a dangerous place and I need to be vigilante and keep my eyes open for griefers...Either way, I am loving this game...

The best thing you can do to combat being pwned constantly on the PVP servers is join a thriving guild. You need backup on PVP servers, also know when to hold 'em and know when to fold 'em.

  • Well I don't know what class you are but here are my tips persepctive etc.

never forget: You are a resource to be farmed.  What do they get ? Some status and rep for pvp items

Do not be afraid to ask for help etc. People will be happy to reciprocate.

upgrade everything you can.  DO NOT forget to upgrade skills/spells.

if you are having trouble try to group

Depending on your class you should try to remain unseen.  Scout, stealth and track at all times.  Mage invis.  Healers are hard to kill so you can often wear people down.

Unless you are awesomely geared on orange will utterly destroy you at 13.  By level 45 or so this changes some.  An orange can even be hard to take with a duo even if one is a healer.  Avoid oranges

Keep your eyes peeled at all times.  Run if you see an orange.  Hide behind hills etc.

    DO NOT use a torch!

PvP is war.  Treat it like so.  If you see a green I expect you to kill him or her and show no mercy.  Trust me an orange con will chase you across the zone to kill you.  My group hunts in a pack of 5.  We will run down red cons who are solo and green cons who are solo/ grouped and basically anybody we see who we can potentially kill.

I thought I would be one of those honorable people when I started on Nagafen.  At level 10 I was pummeled over and over by people who were level 18 in the noobie zone.  I loved it!  It opened up a new and beautifully brutal aspect of eq2 for me.  Revenge is sweet.  If you get beat down, organize and use the channels to call out the opponents location and watch hordes of your commrades come to your aid to mutilate your enemy.

As a member of the other side and someone who has gotten equally ganked in Ant by almost nothing but oranges or groups of yellow, I give you a might cheer!

    Good news and Bad news.

Bad: Your involved iin a pattern of revenge. All the young on each side have gotten ganked by griefers who will kill over and over again for no other reason then to bother you. At least that is how Ant is somedays. 2-4 times is more like in 10 min by some groups. After the first kill they don't get your status or money anymore so they are just doing to to be... well you know.  So revenge is then taken on the other side and then back and forth. :-(

But the good side. Once you leave CL or Ant it gets much much better. Ganking is still common but much less so, specially if you fight away from major roads or running area's. Solo is quite common on the Q's side, don't know about your Freep side, and its quite fun. Things are quite well balanced in some respecs.  Scouts can rip apart a mage if he gets the jump, or even a warrior if he got a big enough jump. Hehe. Mages on the other hand can kill anything if they got a bit of distance on them, incredibly powerful. Clerics... Can't say, haven't played them, seem to survive forever... kinda like....   Warriors! Only advice, pray you kill them quick, cause if a scout or mage doesn't do it quick, the warrior just beats them down!

So each has its bonus's and weak side. Certain classes should avoid others at all costs, and search other out as prey. :-)

The advice? Group, or what I like to do. Get out of CL and Ant. Thats where the newbie gankers all hang out.
