is it just me? Or many of the mmorpgs IGN hails and praises are really crappy or underdeveloped mmorpgs?
For example, three of the mmorpgs they really gave rave reviews for was SWG, Shadowbane, and Sims online
Anyone else noticed this? I understand some game reviwers, we will not agree with...but some of the things they said about these games makes me wonder how much money they got paid to say it

gamespot gave a rather horrid review on SWG's 3 month review.
My wife posted it in the SWG forums and received a 2 week ban...no warning ...nothing....
so Gamespot has won my trust

As the official provider of forums for some MMOGs (Horizons, I believe they handled DAoC at one time...maybe others too) you have to wonder if there's a little corroboration.
It's very hard to be objectively critical if you're biting the hand that feeds you.
Absolutely, there is no better method of determining a game's worth than by rolling up your sleeves and playing it. However, this is not possible for all games or even a majority, so I depend on reviews from a variety of sources. Rotten Tomatoes is the best movie review website I have seen because they collect numerous reviews from around the web and give a score based on the consensus view. I wish something like that were available for games.
The best review team I have found is that at Computer Games magazine. While I think they tend to give titles the benefit of the doubt, they have no compunction about skewering a lousy game, and will often do it to a title that has taken out a full-page ad in the same issue. They gave SW:G a fair review IMHO, and Tom Chick stuck the knife in and twisted it with his facetious column on becoming a master dishwasher in a Corellian cantina.
IGN seems to be a little less likely to point out flaws, but no review entity is perfect. I do have a new found respect for gamespot after the above post. Banning someone for re-posting a critical piece? Please!

Gamespot.com, baby. Not only do they do their own reviews, but they also have the users review the game, and give an average user mark. And finally, they show the marks given to the game by all the other major review places on the net.
