The n00b revisits DAoC

Hey folks,

I was an old school DAoC player (Bors/Hib -- quit a month or two after the Shrouded Isles expansion). I'm thinking of returning to DAoC again, but I got a few questions. i'd appreciate it if both spectrums (positive and negative) left some feedback.

A) I'm curious as to whether the grinding has improved. Solo grinding (45+) was a chore and bored me to death.

B) How would an entry level character play out in PvP now? Have these epics trashed the game?

C) Are there any outstanding imbalance issues now? (If I did return I'd prefer to play a caster class.)

D) How "easy" is getting into a guild now? (I know it varies, looking for a generalization.)

E) Is the endgame like WoW, where it involves lots of extremely long raids?

F) Are there any plans for new servers that anyone is aware of? That would be ideal.

And feel free to leave personal commentary. All responses are greatly appreciated.

I played an armsman, cleric, inf, and ment to 50. I played Classic, SI, ToA, NF, and a bit of the DR expansion.

One on hand, you're going to have a LOT to do. On the other hand, you're going to need a small army of decent players to help you do that. Going back into the game with a level 1 is going to be very, very agonizng. If you can I would try to make some friends in some DAoC community and see if they would help you out with leveling / quests.

Also, you're going to need to accounts if you have any intention of soloing in RvR (this would also help with PvE) the odds of you finding another poor unbuffed soul in RvR, who is Solo are about as likely as Mythic giving you a free month of play for having a cute name. It is my oppinion, that RvR was fun once, but now it is too cluttered with highly specialized gank groups, master levels... traps and all sorts of just complete nonsense, that you're going to be hard pressed to have any fun.

The Shrouded Isles expansion was a nice addition to the game, added Spellcrafting and Alchemy... that was all neat and well. ToA enters the picture, and suddenly you're fighting a whole new battle.

If you're really into PvE you may find alot of fun in the new content, but if you're looking for RvR... it's pretty tainted from what you might remember.

I would NOT suggest buying this game unless you're really ready to get hardcoUre with it.

Anyways, GL hope my input is valid/helpfull.

I do not even think it is fair to say that the game then is much like the game is now, at least in terms of gameplay.

    1.  Leveling takes only 10% of the time it used to.  You can easily make it to level 50 in 5 days in game, but most people take about 7-8 days.  Almost all of the good quests can be done solo.  Going from level 1-20 will take you less than 24 hours.  I think the last time I did it it took me around 15 hours.

    2.  There are level specifc battlegrounds to fight in.  Epics are worthless.  They have been since SI came out and with it spellcrafting.  Well to be fair, they recently updated the epics (and made the quests easier to do).  It gives you good gear that some people use, but there is usually better armor to be found in the game.

    3.  People are always going to complain about balance.  There are 44 classes now so people are going to complain.  They have been making many adjustments to classes the past few patches.  I do not really think there are balance issues, but I can see playing a Hib back then you would be afraid of it because all mythic did was give Alb love time and time again.  Thankfully things have changed.

    4.  It is easy to get into a guild I guess.  I haven't heard of any problems.  Most guilds are much smaller now, so in a way, alliances have replaced guilds.  You might have 6-12 guildies on, but 60 people in alliance.

    5.  No.  It is not anyting like WoW endgame.  There was an expansion after SI that gave us an unasked for EQ type raid expansion.  It blew really bad, mostly in the implentation department and unforseenside effects.  Anyway, that has been adjusted.  There are still raids for those however.  But if you want, you can play on the misleading titled "Classic" servers which do not have that expansion.  Hence, the only raids you will be a part of will be Dragon Raids or Relic Raids.

    6.  No plans for new servers.  The aforementioned Classic servers are fairly new being around 8 months old perhaps.  A lot of new players start of Gareth since it is the largest populated server.
