I personaly hate that game, but you have to decide yourself.
Do you enjoy Eve? If so keep playing it.
If not....quit. See it's simple.
If you enjoy it then subscribe. Simple.
Personally, I love the game. Open ended, creative freedom, politics, wars, markets....what more could anyone want?
Do they have one?
EVE is definately worth it. Whether you're into lore, pvp, trades or crafting EVE has it all. Theres so many aspects to the game it will take you years to get to all of it. I've been playing for 2 years and i'm just now getting to the research and development stage.
People who knock EVE generally don't understand how vast it is. They try it and fly around the newbie area or venture out for the first taste of pvp and don't like it because they either get ganked by griefers or get sucked into mission running. Those are 2 of the easiest traps to fall into. Honestly missions will help you the first month while you train skills to get to 0.0 and earn enough money for a battleship but they have a very small role in the game which is mainly to get blueprints into the population through agents.
EVE is a game for casual players. Very few people are hardcore and most of them are in one alliance. EVE is a social game full of politics. If you're into politics, piracy, griefing, thieving, building and selling then EVE is pretty fun.
EVE also has its boring moments though.
Make a difference!
EVE has the most mature community I've ever seen. Here, you ask for help and you will get it. There are volunteers on the rookie channel (2k average population) who will help, although it can get a bit crowded.
Nevertheless,I've played the 30 day CD trial, (I bought two CD's for EVE cos I screwed up the first time)and although towards the end I had exams to do and I spent my time training up my learning skills, (I have 6 on level 4,and hopefully one on 5 when I subscribe) I had a lot of fun without so much as even beginning to fight.
I hooked up with some people in my starter corp, and we went on mining runs in 0.5 space. Was good times. The complexity of this game still baffles me; all this weapon stuff and training, etc. But regardless, I felt the good vibe from this game; PvP with some purpose (well ok,it's guild vs guild,but....still......think of EVE as like an inner circle of safety with some weak PvP zones and a MASSIVE outer circle of all PvP zones or 0.0 space with inter-corporation fighting, and you get the map of EVE. Quite huge.)
Travelling is a minus, but if you're busy engaged in one of the chat channels it hardly matters,I think. Even the missions aren't compulsory, although a lot of people do them for the early rewards and reputation.
I fully intend to subscribe to EVE once WOW kicks the bucket (i.e- expansion stuff dies off and no upgrade to outdoor PvP.....that maybe alone the only reason I remain in WOW) if not before. Flexibility. Mature community. And very promising open PvP.
EVE is worth a try,but I'd recommend buying the CD as they are really cheap. Only 5 quid for my EVE disc. It's probably worth the days of online play; notice how's it top of the MMORPG chart.......
Hope that helps.
I played EvE online 3 months after release and it had so many bugs and design flaws that I quit. I hear the serious ones were fixed now.
I find it difficult to play a game though, where no matter how much effort and time you put into it, you can never catch up to the veterans, because of a real time based skill learning system. I dislike the notion completely. Part of the immersion factor of a virtual world is based on the fact that it is not supposed to have any obvious connections/relations to the real world. I should be able to catch up to veterans in the leveling, skill learning sense, if I am willing to work harder at it in-game.
Another problem for me was the initial nerf after release, that moved high quality rare ore from secure space to 0.0 space. This was a serious design flaw which should have been fixed in beta because what it essentially did, was allow the early veteran players to get a huge head start financially, which they then used to jumpstart manufacturing, and as any crafter/manufacturer will tell you, early bird gets the worm, or profits and market share in this case.
EvE is also designed to be a group/guild game. It is solo friendly so you can solo, but unsecure space is risky when you are alone as EvE is open PvP there.

It's very much a social game. Finding a good group of people to play with is very important. I love my corp, we are like a big extended family, we've been playing EVE, most of us, for 2-3 years now, and we still have newcomers as well, it's a wonderful, social experience in EVE.
I like EVE, it's a great game and it's a breath of fresh air from all the other crap thats out there atm.
Try the 14 day trial, the first few hours can be a little confusing but after that you'll get the hang of it.

I've done the trial 2 times now with a year inbetween each time and always find the game too boring for me.
Last time I tried the mining/hauling (the mining u sit back and watch tv, the travelling in high security space u go browse the internet or watch some more tv. I can imagine it being pretty challenging in low sec and having to go with escorts etc but its so mindless!)
This time I tried combat, I still think its way boring...
The main negatives for me:
- lots of travelling, its so boring! warp, fly to warpgate, warp...
- whatever activity u do, it just doesn't get your adrenaline flowing or learning. Wether u are mining or running missions it all seems so obvious (no quest-like stuff or anything)
-> It just feels like a job! (or a waste of time)
The positives:
-The huge world (depends on what u call a world though theres loads of places but they all looks the same, basically its just a big background image with a load of dots on the screen)
but its one big universe with thousands of players all on at the same time (10-20.000 at any time)
-The market (totally player dependant and if u like watching prices u can live off of buying and selling)
-Freedom (u can live off of whatever floats your boat: pvp, hauling stuff, mining, refining, crafting parts, crafting ships, doing NPC combat or transport missions) u don't need to specialize into anything aswell, but since skilltraining is time dependant this also restricts the fun for me. Wether u only learn skills (and have enough money to buy the next levels wich don't cost very much) or u play all day, in the early stages of the game it doesn't matter much (slow skill progression)
Sounds interesting i might give it a try...!

Also, EVE is not really about missions and mining ... it's a sandbox game where you make of the game what you want. Some people like that, and some people don't like it, and that's fair enough. If you are the kind of player who likes intricate quests and PvE content, EVE is not the game for you.
I read what u guys said and decided that I should give it a shot and see if its good but I agreed on one thing, it is that as soon as I started I had too take sometime on the training which got me bored real fast but I guess getting fully updated on the things u could is probably a good thing.
Thanks for the opinions though.
Try the trial, if you like it then stick with the game, if you don't then don't. Seems like the best way to go with any game.
I can't stand the game. I found it boring as heck, but lots of people love it. It's a game if you're having fun now then play it. If you don't like it play something else.
