dungeon siege meets GW - my impression

Ok, been reading - ok first of game looks great! the single player aspect is kind of interesting -- reminds me of dungeon siege.. but the pvp? sounds like a GW setup...

im hyped really low at the moment - im a big RPGer and need to explore and fight pvp but not no stupid GW, or DaDO crap either

so basically im getting the distinct impression this game is dungeon siege - go out and play a single player game - but when your done with the game - you log into multiplayer to have a PVP session - GW?

ugh... not sure about this yet...

This game is a lot more than that.

In depth crafting, massive PvP battles with formations and siege weapons. Build your own forts and complete towns. Explore, do questing, craft, trade at the auction house and much more.

Read up on the official AoC website, or take a look at some of the links from my blog.

Doing the first 20 levels of your first character in single-player mode is very much like a long tutorial to get you thoroughly familiar with the game mechanics.

As I understand, this need only be done one time with your first character, but you can opt-out of that with subsequent characters (someone correct me if I am wrong).

Thereafter it plays like a MMORPG, which it is.

You have no idea what you talk about so... Nothing I can say will give you more brains to work with. Sorry.... Play something else then. Bye bye *waves happily*

    Harafnir's comments are a bit... overzealous...troll anyone?

I would advise the same as Chegg did.  Read up on the official site.  It does a great job explaining the game set up; PvP-n-such.  Reading about the game on the AoC site reassured me that it was not going to be GW2.  I'm not a huge GW fan, so I look specifically for games that are different from it.  So far I'm happy with AoC's direction, and unique design.

as people have pointed out, I think you have some misconceptions about AoC. The single player I imagine to be much more story intensive than dungeon siege (there was nothing wrong with DS, but it was more hack-n-slash than story) and the PvP I imagine to be more like Shadowbane.

There will be a couple of "modes" which may be like GW -- the "gang wars" or whatever, but I there is also large scale PvP and sieges that you can participate in. Also, you are always online, it isn't like you only "log on" to PvP. There is a huge world to explore and much to do.

Check out some of the previews out there to get a feel for the game: http://opinionator.net/aoc/previews

so will there be crafting and housing?
  • mouimoui Member Posts: 12

Crafting is definately in, housing is in but not sure how exactly. City building will play a big part, and you can build houses within your guild's city. I don't know if it will be individual housing, guild housing, etc. and I don't know if there are other building locations available.

hmm aoc reminds me of neither of these things
    i hate gw
and dungeon siege is fun but nothign at all like this other than
    you have equipment and level

this game strikes me as a AO and DAoC with the grafix of EQ2 without all the lag shit

    anyone agree??

(oh and the AO thing is just features, i know they are very VERY differient)

    Just another handsome boy graduate...

That isn't a bad comparison. The PvP in DAOC was great, and the I lvoed AO. So if that turns out to be true I'll be very content :)
