Even though I cancelled my account already due to sheer boredom in the game...

    Specs:

I have a P4, 3.0 gz, 1 gig ram, 200 gb hd, ATI Radeon 9800 Pro, and the game lagged so bad and had such a frame rate issue it felt like I was playing on  a PC built in 1985.

I had wished Horizons was good. I really did. Game play was abysmal. As an adventurer, the lack of content was depressing, any decent mobs were camped, the landscape empty, NPC lag horrendous, aminations were gradeschool compared to even games 4 years old.

There were just so many problems that I felt it necessary to cancel my subscription. Horizons is just a bad bad game

I read the review here 2 days ago - then bought the game. After a few struggling moments creating my account (the game launcher takes you to the wrong site if you are an EU player, no biggie), i finally got into the game.
Played it 2 hours the first night - and i loved it. I admit that 2 hours is a "bit" shallow to judge tough :P
However, after these 2 hours of gameplay, i have not been able to logon to the game. I'm always stuck in the "requesting manifest" phase for 3 minutes before the game takes me back to the desktop. This seems to be a common problem these days...
I've tried to delete my cache, my prefs files and some other files...all to no avail...
Oh well, atleast i've got an opportunity to contact the game support. Lets see if it is as horrible as some sais :P
--* Roughly 8 hours after i used their web based customer support I got an answer from their support confirming that this is indeed a common problem, and that they are working closely with the developers to solve this ASAP. Pretty good so far I'd say --*

----* Login problem has indeed been solved it seems. Has worked flawlessly since the server patch / update on wednesday. And yes, i still like the game :P ----*

    I like it a lot.

Doesn't break any new ground but there's something about it that keepin me interested.

They've pretty much fixed the login problem (for me) yesterday after some server maintainance.

I have played now almost 2 months and I am bored. Major reason why I am so bored already is that characters don't look unique enough. There is currently 4 different metal armor colors with 4 different models. Characters who are using metal armor and are around levels 11-20 are using bronze chain or plate armor (depending on your character class). In practice this means that, if two characters are around same level and their class is same, then characters look same.

Game is also missing lots of features that were in official FAQ when I bought game (now some of these "hype-features" are removed, but some are still there). Here is some missing features:

    • Item creation system is not currently so powerful that every single player in the game can have a unique looking weapon or tool in hand - or wear unique looking armor. Creation system doesn't allow players make design choices - currenlty only way to modify items is to assign techiniques them, but this doesn't effect to item's look.
    • World is pretty empty. Adventurers are whining that monsters are hard to find and most good spawns are camped.
    • Weather is not dynamic. There is snow - but only one stationar place.
    • Plots can't be purchased from NPCs.
    • There isn't player owned shops.
    • There isn't player "Towns" (castles, etc... ). There is houses and other player owned buildings, but thes don't have any functionality only their look.
    • You can't hire NPC characters to work for you.
    • There isn't Guild Emblems.
    • Monsters don't run away when they are outnumbered and there isn't any advanced AI.
    • Dragon's can't fly.

I bought game, because I thought that game's official FAQ was telling truth from game. Unfortunately it is full of lies. ... and I am now pretty angry. image

This game was not ready to release. Currently it doesn't offer anything new to MMORPG genre.

Just a couple points of clarification on the previous post:

Plots, in general, can be purchased from the government (not NPCs). The problem now is that plots can't be purchased from other players. Specifically though, plots are in short supply, so it's hard to find ones now that haven't already been bought.

Additionally, there are 3 different possible zones that plots may have. It varies from plot to plot, but in general, the smaller (and cheaper) plots can only have Residential zoned buildings. Medium sized plots can typically accommodate residential and industrial or commercial zoned buildings. Large plots can generally take all 3.

Residential (only) plots are essentially useless. The buildings are non-functioning, and while there is an NPC to buy zoning deeds from, the feature does not currently work. Commercial buildings can have two different types of vendors that you can "hire", but you can't directly control. Industrial plots are the only ones of any real value at this point, as you can make functioning buildings for processing resources.

There are player towns in a manner of speaking. There are towns without any starting buildings in them (except those for certain community functions... gatekeepers, guards after you rebuild guardposts), but you can only buy the individual plots that are already specified areas.

So many of these features do "half" exist, but yes, the game is missing a surprising number of features that they claimed they had. And now that people have levelled and progressed faster than they thought we would, instead of trying to speed up development on some of these features, they're trying to slow down the rate at which we level.

I have been part of Horizons from the very early stages of beta, have seen many thing promised and many things achieved. I have seen wonderful things, Dragons flying an awesome crafting system, and a housing system that is what I have dreamed of. I however can not look past what I have not seen, and some horrors that I have. I have been told by staff at AE that there will be environmental damage, and that after accounts are close that the houses will be returned to the empire, both of these statements are false. I have seen no attempts at environmental damage even though I play on the test server and all or nearly all the plots are gone. The housing plots are being kept active to the accounts that owned them even after the accounts are close, and if the were freed many more would have housing. I am not coming from a position where I am pissed because I don’t have a plot, I have a very nice one I just see so many leaving because they do not. The next big issue I have is that only into the second moth there are lvl 100 players poping out of the wood work. I know EQ players that took years to get near that high and this made a change but most will have reached the top in 6 months. I understand that there are power lvlers but come on there should be some lvling treadmill. Lastly the ingame events with the super intelligent AI……. Ok there are large scale ingame events but they are static for the most part, monsters spawn and get pawned while crafters build a tunnel, the smart AI is no smarter than any other game. I my self have made many friends both in the staff of AE and in the gaming environment, but I feel that Horizons is showing the signs of a game that will not make the long run.

Aughundell fell to the WA today on the roleplay servers. The events keep changing every two weeks, and the content of the game is morphing to those events. It's not nearly as static as you may believe.

The "war with the WA" aspect of the game is really looking interesting. They still have a fair amount of video lag problems, and until the Rites of Passage for Dragons is finished (flying, lairs, adulthood, etc...) I still say WAIT on this game if you are an adventurer.

if an advancing army of undead that the player could have seen coming and atemped to defend against had taken the dwarven city, then yes I would have to say that it would not be static. Server goes down then comes up and poof the undead have the city. Troop movements on the side of the WA would help the realism here.

I really like this game.  I love the crafting system.  The only thing i dont like much is the multiclassing.  Since so many people multiclass with the cleric to heal themselves, there arent that many groups.  I just think it gets boring soloing 24/7.  My RL friend plays so im always grouped with him.
