All you had to write was...  OH, sorry.  I was busy writing another response and didn't catch it.  That's a fair response that I would have totally understood.

But instead you went on asking me not to accuse you of something.  I didn't.  I just said it's clear you didn't read my post above yours.  I was inviting you too.

Accusing someone of something is doing what you did, by saying I'm impatient.  Thank you Dr Laura for your insight.  lol.

And yes, I invite you to read about your founding fathers.  It would be most enlightening I'm sure.  I gave you a link to start out with.  Enjoy.

Apparantly, I didn't learn my lesson that was taught this morning.  Sorry about all the rudeness. After I posted my post I did go back and read all the posts above mine. I didn't make another post to disagree with you. Meh. Let's have a drink, eh?

We were headed down the right path.  Had we kept going in the direction that the founding fathers pointed us in, we would have a wonderful country.  Our culture would have evolved into a culture of respect for one anothers beliefs.  Our culture would have encouraged a search for the uniqueness of each individual without the guilt of that journey.  Our country would have maintained the promise given to each individual, not by the government, but by the peoples desire to be decent and proud of their commitment to help others.

Instead we've become a country with a behemoth government run by the special interests of this country.  These special interests include the big corporations, the principle of individual gain over social responsibility, and the religious intolerance that wants to rule the people.

You can look back at the history of this nation to see it.  Prohibition, income tax, growing government programs instead of community programs, over involvement in foreign affairs, racial discrimination, ideological intolerance, the federal reserve, over indulgence in ones self, the government ruling the people instead of the people overseeing the government, lack of respect for ones self...   The list goes on and on.

Nothing good is going to come of this country until we get back on the road that the leaders like Thomas Jefferson tried to set us off on.  Benjamin Franklin warned us of letting this happen.  It's like he knew that human nature would struggle with the evolution of a new government with new ideas, and he was right.

We need to get back to individual freedoms.  A sense of belonging to a community instead of a corporation.  A respect for others and their uniqueness.

Besides the corporations, I think one of the biggest threats right now for this country is this religious fundamentalism that is raging.  It's pitting people against each other when we should be evolving into a more tolerant and loving society.  We're headed backwards.

I read people writing stuff about homosexuality and gay marriage being immoral.  Those are the words to display what I mean.  The fundamentalists want nothing more than to split this nation and turn it eventually into a theocratic leaning country.  They don't want to celebrate individual freedoms.  Or even civil rights for that matter.  The old saying, the most racially divided places are churches on Sunday's is absolutely true.

I listen to a radio show on the weekdays in the morning hosted by a guy named Neal Boortz.  He is a libertarian and supports gay rights.  He catches hell from christians calling his show.  But he's a smart enough guy to throw it right back at them in ways that trip them up to the point where most just hang up the phone.

One way he does this is by asking them a simple, but as of yet unanswered, question.  If homosexuality and gay marriage are so bad and immoral, tell me how they would change or hurt society.  People say that gay marriage would ruin the family.  How would your neighbors being a gay couple effect your marriage or your family?  Even living right next door to them.  How could it destroy your marriage?  Would you love your wife less?  Your children less?  What's the answer?  The answer is it would have no effect.  None, whatsoever.  And that's why he's left that question open and no one has been able to answer it.

Topics like this are what is killing this country.  We were intended to be a growing, diverse, and accepting nation.  One that helped the weak and respected individuality, creativity, and free thought and ideas.  Our founding fathers were some of the most radical thinkers of their time.  And now we've let them down.

    WOW!!!

    Someone gets it!

Take a bow, man.  That was incredible.  You should write a book.  Seriously, cuz it was well written too.

Things like that need to be released upon the public so that American society can relearn it's purpose and get back on track.

I would imagine the view on this would much depend on your status in said country.

Bill gates would probably agree, the lost tourist who just got gang raped in Bronx would probably not.

Kinda wish the Wisdom of 'upallnight' could fit into a signature, very well said.

I was thinking about an EVE = USA analogy, rapid community, gankers, and lots of rich and poors, but I think i rather not start a war with someone that trigger happy.. :)

When do we say we're the best? But you know that is your country has a lot of nationalism in there then it does make it a great country. Nationalist have more moral to fight for what they believe and will die for it, which I believe is the number one thing that makes us the "best".

as a country, America has the least personality of any nation on earth IMHO. considering american history only dates back about........ 500 years or something rediculous, and the oldest relic in america is probably the original burger king! whereas, just a 30 second walk from where i live in cambridge there's a church that was built in 1100, and a row of houses dating back to the time of oliver cromwell. america's lack of history really does give it a 'false' persona, theres nothing much interesting about it as a country.

Uhhhmmm...   I have goosebumps now.  Are you some reincarnation of a writer from the American revolutionary period?

I agree with the others, that was great writing.

I think you should go to college and study to be a writer.  We need poeple like you to get the message out.  And you're speaking from first hand experience too.  So you've got that fire in your gut.

I wish there was some way to sticky note this to the sky over America so people could read it every day.

If what you wrote were to start occurring we could be a beautiful example to the rest of the world.

Send what you wrote to George Bush.  I double dog dare ya.

It's pretty simple when you think about it. USA = #1.

We have the most money and the most military might.

This means we can do as we please.

It is the system set up so that only the strong survive and thus, makes us stay powerful.

Before some right-wing capitalist says it's wrong to provide basic needs of life to people: you're wrong. Yes, you are wrong.

And you base this on what exactly? You are now the arbiter of all issues? Apparently it is you who are wrong. Otherwise, the things you are proposing would be in place now wouldn't they?

Everyone should have the necessities of life to begin with, so that they are ABLE to get a job and such. I'm not talking about a welfare system that lazy people can sucker off of. I mean a truly great country that professes to believe in "equal opportunity" should give everyone in it food, shelter, healthcare, etc. so that they WILL have an equal opportunity.

You can't have it both ways. You have to pick.

Yeah, sure.  Money and power mean everything.

That's why Jesus taught us to live a humble life.

According to your philosophy someone who would give up everything to make things better is a fool.

Might doesn't make right.  Human respect, decency, and how you use the power you are given are what you're judged on.  The powerful may do away with the decent.  But that doesn't make the powerful decent afterwards.

I don't think at the moment the U.S. leaders are using our power in a decent way.  I think they're being bullies.  That's why we're being frowned upon by other nations.  Not because of jealousy, but because of our irresponsibility and arrogance.

That is the reason the other countries are getting sick of us.  Comments like that.  Arrogance and cockiness.

You're talking about countries that have less of a population than America and are surrounded by many countries on all their borders.  Not to mention an incredible diversity of people contained in a limited area.  And yet you want to compare us to them.

Look at our one border with Mexico and how much trouble we're having with them.  And then imagine instead of having two oceans on each side we had two more nations to contend with.

I think given the situation, the Europeans are doing an excellent job.  The British now can more than take up for themselves and have proven a valuable ally to the U.S.

Imagine yourself being over there.  I know empathy is the highest form of thinking and the hardest to learn, but just try it.  Please.

The Europeans have helped us out in a few wars too.  Don't forget that!!!!

You just made your intentions perfectly clear.  You don't need to really say anything else.

Ever heard the word Imerialism?  Here's the definition for you...

Imperialism - the policy, practice, or advocacy of extending the power and dominion
of a nation especially by direct territorial acquisitions or by gaining
indirect control over the political or economic life of other areas; broadly : the extension or imposition of power, authority, or influence

I hear Americans say that their country is the most diverse and tolerant but why do groups like the KKK still flourish? Look at Canada if u want to see a diverse society with very little discrimination and that treats its people with dignity. America is a great country but at the moment they are not what I would call our planets best and I cant remember a time when they were? I am not trying to flame any Americans I just wanna know why alot of them think that their ability to nuke, destroy and kill everything means u are a great nation?
I personaly think with the Iraq war that the U.S set a very bad example on how to deal with problems and lost so much credibility with the world that when a real threat actualy appears dealing with it will be all the more difficult. The American people do give alot to charities around the world but if u compare the money to the American GDP then percentage wise alot of countries give alot more. Americans are losing jobs left and right to outsourcing and the middle class is beaing assaulted by the huge corporations when the expense of living keeps on goin up so how long can Americans pretend to be #1?
In my honest opinion I think Canada is the #1 nation who's example should be emulated? Imagine every country on Earth with the same laws and standards as Canada? No war! No famine! No super-rich super-poor class divides! No racism! and No George W Bush!!!

    wow...

no war in canada, thats because you dont have shit for a military...

no super-rich or super-poor - ive been to canada...it was basically all poor,

that free health care bs, say you need a heart transplant in the next week or you die, in canada you die...in america if you can afford the procedure you live...your socialist system is all effed up. it takes forever to get medical attention in canada

no racism - i know thats not true, every country has racism...

your an idiot, the kkk does not still flourish, yes it exists, but flourish? no. people in america have religious freedoms, they can believe what they want, or be in groups they want. thats why the kkk still exists...they have done nothing wrong until they commit violence. its also not only whites that take out racist crimes, maybe you havent heard of the black panthers?

and yes, we give out more money to charities and other famine devastated countries than any other nation in the world, the problem is that those nations have corrupt governments so the funds never reach the people.

    basically, your an idiot...

This was addressed earlier in the thread.

There have been studies that show the wait for procedures in Canada is no more than the wait in the U.S.

Try to see a dermatologist in America and see how long it takes you.  Or try to see a specialist at the VA hospital if you're a veteran.  Then tell me our health care system rocks.

Just had to reply to this, because of its obvious ignorance.

Yes, the US do have, if not the largest, the most effiecient and expensive military machine.

But from this comes that the US also have no money, in fact the US is debt stricken to a point were each citizen has debt of about 20.000 dollar, most of it to other countries and a fair bit of those countries are the oil nations.

As far as "wealthy countries" goes, the US is pretty far down the list.

your an idiot, the kkk does not still flourish, yes it exists, but flourish? no. people in america have religious freedoms, they can believe what they want, or be in groups they want. thats why the kkk still exists...they have done nothing wrong until they commit violence. its also not only whites that take out racist crimes, maybe you havent heard of the black panthers?

and yes, we give out more money to charities and other famine devastated countries than any other nation in the world, the problem is that those nations have corrupt governments so the funds never reach the people.

    basically, your an idiot...

Calling me an idiot when your post if full of incorrect facts? For 1 Canadians Military is good enough to suit our needs, you see invading and killing other people isnt #1 on our to do list. The bs fact u spit out about not being able to get an operation in time? Have u ever been to Canada? I guess not because we have some of the best hospitals in the world and our free health care is the same for everyone rich or poor. My own brother almost burned in a fire and he was saved by Canada's excelent medical care, they gave every one in the fire 50/50 chance of survival and they all lived! My brothers medical bill was over a million dollars and paid for by the Canadian govt. I realy would not wanna go through that and live in America especialy with no insurance.

You also are incorrect about Canadians being mostly poor it is in fact the opposite and the huge job booms in Alberta,B.C and my area in Ontario are making Canada even richer. As a country Canada has more natural resources than any other nation and I dont see how that makes us poor? I have to ask u are u an idiot for assume so much that is incorrect?

I also want to add that I respect the majority of Americans greatly and as a nation u did have great potential to shape the planet for the better but I am very concerned your ways are setting a bad example.

Yeah, sure.  Money and power mean everything.Spoken by someone who obviously has neither

That's why Jesus taught us to live a humble life. I dont believe in Jeebus

According to your philosophy someone who would give up everything to make things better is a fool. Its their choice to do what they want

Might doesn't make right.  Human respect, decency, and how you use the power you are given are what you're judged on.Judged by whom exactly? Jeebus again?
The powerful may do away with the decent.  But that doesn't make the powerful decent afterwards. Again, are you my judge?

I don't think at the moment the U.S. leaders are using our power in a decent way.  I think they're being bullies.  That's why we're being frowned upon by other nations.  Not because of jealousy, but because of our irresponsibility and arrogance.

Trust me, its all jealousy. WE use might to take what we want. THis makes other people cry because they got beat to teh punch.

Okay, Waki.  I just hope you're ready to adhere to that logic in the near future.

You see, China is on the path to having the largest economy and military in the world right now.  So when they are bigger than us in those respects, I wonder if you'll be consistent in your views.

Will you then stand by your might makes right philosophy?

yeah, nationalism was always an issue to form questions about it..just think about it, when germany would say that they are the best in the world nowadays, bet they would be nazis, when the us and their inhabitants advertise their nationalism, it is natural.

the whole question of this thread is interesting, but just stupid who believe such in such phrases, doesnt matter which country. natural identification with your own country is important, but ignorance/arrogance not.

What do you mean great potiental, america has shaped every country, canada wouldn't still be here if it wasnt for us. Every nation in the world wants to be like america. there is no 2nd runner up to the greatness of america.

Our health care is also better becuase you can get it anywhere  at anytime. You guys in Canada have to wait for health care becuase everyone is getting it from the same source. It shows that america has cometiition even in health care and thats what makes our country great. Companies challenging each other and freedom of speech and less government in society.
