So long as you have FFXI, you will be able to play the FFXI without any new expansions (FFXI US release have Zilart expansion included as default so you'll be able to access Zilart areas.)

But In order to access the areas that are covered in Aht Urghan/Promathia contents, you will need those respective expansions installed.

If your PS2 is the new skinny model, FFXI won't run on it. You need to have the BB package PS2, where its possible to attatch a Hard Disk. (New skinny models are not compatible with Hard Disks) On the contrary, FFXI on PS2 does not require any memory stick so those won't do you any good in terms of FFXI.

PS2 players can play on the same server as PC or Xbox360. If there is a paticular server that you want to join, get in contact with someone that plays on that server and have them issue a world pass for you. When you create your character all you need to do is to enter that world pass and you'll end up in the same server as the one that issued your world pass.

Hope this helps, good luck :)

There are three expansions out: Rise of the Zilart, Chains of Promathia, and Treasures of Aht Urhgan. Rise of the Zilart is kinda must have, but it'll come bundled with your PS2 FFXI, so you don't have to worry about it. CoP and ToAU are independent of each other; you can have one without the other. Of the two, it's more important to have ToAU, there's really major new content in it, including three new classes, but CoP is nice as well. If you like the game, I'd recommend getting both of them, however neither is that important to you until you get to about level 30. Remember to get the PS2 editions of those expansions, not the PC!

Yes, the skinny PS2 is a serious problem, as you MUST use a hard drive (one comes with the game). I've heard rumors of some kind of hack to get a hard drive on a skinny PS2, but I don't know any of the details.

PS2 players and PC players (and, for that matter, Xbox 360 players) all play on the same servers, yes.
