Warzone 2000?

AzathothAzathoth Member Posts: 357

Anyone ever hear of it?  I think I got the name right.  Actually, I think it's Warzone 2010.

I rather enjoyed this game in LAN play.  The AI sucked.

What I liked about it was the fact that you could build your own troops, based on the amount of research accomplished.  This made units unique, for the most part.  The best combination of technologies would give you the edge over your opponent.  It was really fun.

Does anyone know of an RTS (I haven't kept up on RTS games) that resembles this?

Ah good Ole' Warzone 2100 ( which is the title you were going for ). Talk about a HUGE freaking Tech tree. I've not come across anything to resemble that game even remotely. It seems so many RTSs now are dummied down to 12 units and ZERO tactics. I remember playing Warzone 2100 and Total Annihilation for hours and hours on end.

The only thing I can tell you to keep an eye out on is Supreme Commander http://www.supremecommander.com/

Created by Chris Taylor, the mind behind Total Annihilation and Dungeon Siege. It's probably going to be the only thing close to the depth of units and tactics that WZ 2100 offered.

Shame I can't get my copy of WZ 2100 to run on XP with my modern GFX card. I loved that game to death.

"What is it I have against Microsoft, you ask? Well, you know how you feel when you wait for an MMO to come out and when it does you feel like you've paid to play it's beta test for another 6-9 months before anything even thinks of working the way it should? Being a network engineer you feel that way about anything Microsoft puts out."

The spiritual sequel to TA - I am ecstatic, to say the least. I just hope it lives up to the hype; everything about it thus far has promised the humongous battles of hundreds of units rushing in, explosions and shrapnel everything; it'll be like Total Annihilation on crack.

The biggest hurdle to overcome is the question of, "Is it too big?" I mean how much can a human brain take before exploding? This game will surely test the limits.

To the OP: Supreme commander is definitely the game to look forward to. If it holds up to it's hype, it'll blow everything else out of the water.

Enough of this WC3 style crap - Enough of the games of the last century in the clothes of the new one.

We need innovation! We need Supreme Commander!

Yeah, it was sweet.  Thanks for the correction on the name.  I'm kinda stupid when it comes to names.

Anyway, I will look out for your suggestion.  As well, TA was kick ass too.  I still have TA, and play it once every two weeks or so.  It rocks!  My fav unit is the Brawler.  That badboy kicks some serious but, as long as it's out of anti-air weapon range...  Of course, nukes do the job too.

What's your favorite map?  I like Town N Country and Man in the Middle.
