How long should I wait before this game is settled out/worth it?

Well, I'm a big fan of anything Star Wars and I heard some things about this game.  One being how it got screwed.  So I really want to play a Star Wars game like this so I'm just wondering, how long do you guys think it will take for things to settle out and get better?  Also any new news on the whole SWG being bought by a new company?

Thanks

6 of 1 1/2 dozen of the other. All I could reccomend is go try the 14 day trial. It will only let you test it out in the space station but it weill give you an idea on where the game is headed.

As far as where it is headed.... depends on who you ask and what you like in a game. They have pretty much redone the whole thing, broken it down to the core, and now are trying to build back on it. Some say its great, others sayit sucks... Not to sound neutral or anything..

I personally do not like the game..

Obraik can give you the ins and outs on how to enjoy it though if the game is for you..

t'll be leveled out when it's ported to PS3.  Then, after it tanks even worse than it is now (it's hard to believe that's possible) LucasArts might FINALLY pull the plug.

Honestly that is something you won't find the answer to , until you try the game yourself . Most people who played before do not like the game now , And will not like it regardless of what SOE does to it . I don't care how much I get flamed for saying this . But this is the wrong forum to come to to get a real view of the state of the game at present .

It is the goal of most who post here to make sure .Who ever comes here asking about this game , goes away with a bad taste in their mouth .They are the definition of jaded and their opinions are 100% biased toward their opinion of what SWG should be .

LOL to tell you the truth, although there are previous versions better than the current one, this game has never been "settled out".

Classes, professions, gameplay mechanics have never been remotely close to balanced.

Game features disabled because the bugs were incredibly bad. (Anyone remember the corpse runs?)

However if you ever want to try the game when it was playable IMO, that may never happen unless that EMU server comes back up and even when it does it will still remain to be seen how much different the game will be from how it really was at launch.

Take what you read here with a grain of salt if you like learning from your own mistakes and not from others. I am waiting for pre-cu servers to be created. By the way anyone that tells you this game is worth playing or fun is suspect, that is simply not true. The truth is I am less of a StarWars fan because of this game.

Well I am afraid SOE's main problem is they don't have a professional developpers team in charge of SWG. And unfortunatelly this is their way of making bussiness: they don't want to spend money on creative people...What can I say? Even the old Anarchy Online is way better (and it's free!)

I don't know about that , Atleast from my perspective I would rather play nintendo than play AO , better graphics and gameplay lol  .

What the above poster didn't mention is the fact that on any of the swg fan sites your question  will see the same level of anti there for to many reasons to go into now.

One thing many of us did have in common at one time we loved various parts of the game and stayed a very long time.

As far as what your'e asking, the game is still in the process of evolving. There will still be big changes made in the up coming months to combat, weapons, crafting as well as the expertease system which will add diversity back to game play.

The free trial will give you a place to spend time on at the space station, but when you are finished with that you have to pay for the game. There are instructions at the main sony swg web site. The free trial only allows you to explore the space station and play there .

While there is still fun to be had understand what you may come to understand how the game is played may be changed as soon as the next patch. Any equipment you obtain may change as well. If you accept that things will change and change often then by all means try it out , they did a great job on the space station.

Pick a busy server if you plan to stay past your free trial either bria chillestra ahazi though not as populated as they once were there is still  folks around on a few servers. Do not worry about the expansions for a while, just do the legacy quest and if still enjoying the game past 30 th level then see about which expansion to get first latter on.

Someone said in another post that you can spawn directly in Mos Eisley if you select not to undergo the tutorial portion.
I'm not home so I can't verify this.  If it's true, then I suggest you do the trial first.  Just don't forget the game got reset 6 months ago and as such it's still "being made" and balanced, finished, etc
Just be aware of that, expect change.

Other than that, hey the time and money is yours.  I don't need to state my opinions again about this game and SOE, you can find them in other posts.

I want to wish you good luck with this, but I can't since this is not the version of SWG I'd like to see succeeding, I'm sorry.  Good luck with everything else.

If you weren't there from the beginning, you will likely enjoy the game. The people who talk about how the game got screwed are people who had the game change on them against their will and think that somehow, the developers owe them something for those two years of playing. The game, in its current state, is in much better condition than it was a few months ago. In my personal opinion, it has turned a corner with publish 28 and is entirely playable and enjoyable - if you arent' an old fart with an axe to grind.

SWG was not bought by another company. Period.

As far as I know you can't do that . WHen you make your firsts character you are not given this option . You must go through the station atleast one time before you gain the option .

Smedley's publish plans (which are rough outlines, nothing set in stone) has said that the professions will not be fully treated, nor will there be adaquete quests to level up until early 2007.  I'd honestly wait until the end of this year before checking the game out, or once Smedley comes out and says his game is now playable again (he has stated in a forum posting to the community the game was not where it should be, and not at a satisfactory level, which does not neccessarily inspire customer confidence, when the seller says his product sucks.)

Being realistic I would say this game is about 3 years away from being classed as a 90% complete and polished product basing my opinion on how many devs are working on the game, the current state of the game and their passed performance. Question you should be asking is it worth you waiting 3 years to finally play a game which will be at the same stage WOW was on release? Or will your time be better spent on  a new MMO which may take your fancy.

SWG has not and never will be "settled out".  Though it has been "worth it" in the past.

Cataclysmic changes happen every 6 months.  The combat system is about to get yet another (and unpopular) change.

In the nearly 2 years I have played SWG, I've had to endure:

    3 different profession systems
3 different combat systems with a 4th on the way
    3 different Jedi systems/revamps
32 professions with mix and match skill trees becoming 9 static ladder professions
Going from an advanced, customizable, easy to use UI to a butt ugly POS that needs 3 hands to adequately control.

Now MMO's do change over the course of their lifetimes.  But no game has had the nuclear world devastating cataclysm to the extreme like SWG.

If you are really set on playing it, I'd wait till the end of the year to see if the devs can get their collective act together and bring back up to what it was - an immersive, captivating, yet intrinsically flawed game. Sadly, since the NGE, there's been a lot more flaws than immersion or captivation, in my opinion. Take it for what it's worth, which isn't much, but if you were a personal friend asking, I'd tell you not to waste your money.

    Today's headlines:

Star Wars Galaxies: An Empire Divided finally complete (MMORPG Press)

In an unlikely turn of events, Sony Online Entertainment (SOE) - SNE (NYSE) issued a press release, that after decades, their massively multiplayer online game Star Wars Galaxies: An Empire Divided has been finally completed. "It is a great sense of acomplishment", commented John Smedley, CEO of SOE, "and it feels strange, knowing that we'll no longer need to work on this product". Both players have also rejoiced at the prospect of finally having a stable gaming experience, where it will no longer be necessary to re-learn everything on a weekly basis.

i disagree with trying the "free trial" because to all intents and purposes SOE free trials are no more than a single player demo with lag, you will finish everything you can do in the trial in well less than a day then prehaps on the second day you can roll up a new character and class and do it all again, leaving 12 days to uninstall the thing or see just how high you can grind your character there (i got to level 21 because i had nothing better to do). it isnt a "free trial" in the sence of DAOCs free trial or DnDs or even Eves which all show off what the game actually is, rather than a buffed up zone thats had massive attention payed to it to wet your tastebuds if the rest of the game had the same care and attention people would be saying eh whats WoW? never heard of it, But unfortunatly it aint. whats happening here is the salesperson is only letting you look at the high quality  wingmirror that they have tached on the side of a pile of rust.
