Is it me or are too many people comparing this game to Dark and Light?

JimLadJimLad Member CommonPosts: 187

By that I mean being a potential screw up. Just seems a little unfair is all.
It may have a lack of info, but what that really means is no assumption can be made either way.

Anyway, what's your thoughts?

well, i think its not that far fetched (sp?), DnL promised a lot and failed to deliver. DF hasnt failed yet but they have promised beta "SOON" too many times and failed to deliver that. Many people have waited for too long, they get frustraded and claim that DF is vapor or goes the same way as DnL. Maybe they are right, who knows. Remains to be seen.

Then there are these people who are fanbois of some other game and they go bashing other games to make their games look better, i think some DnL fanbois used to do this. Havent heard them for a while, wonder why...
Few Mourning fans too but they are usually too stupid to make even a semi-intelligent post, so they are easy to spot and ignore. I heard there was actually one DEV from AoC some while ago that came to official DF forums to spam. Other DEVs from AoC apologized this later.

Then there is of course those who hate pvp with death penalty aka carebears, they are mostly wow lovers. You can find plenty of them in mmorpg.com.

Now they are are trying to say the Age of Conan devs came to the darkfall forums to spam just like they tried saying years back the mourning devs came their to spam on their forums?   toooooooooooo funny

these fools need to wake up.. no one gives a crap about their vaporware , specially the AoC devs.  that game is so far beyond anything darkfall will ever.

i don't think anyone would waste their time trying to derail a vaportrain. This thing will fold faster than WISH if they ever grow some hair on their balls and decide to actually have a public beta sometime in the next 10 years.

I just repeated (about that AoC dev) what one of DF forum mods (Teth) said, not like i saw it myself. On a side note, AoC is light years behind DF when it comes to creativity/game features, vapor or not.

actually i saw AoC's post way back when, sometime in mid/early 05 i believe.  it was a very amateur thing to do.  but anyways yea it was a post that was randomly like "AoC > Darkfall" and didnt even have anything intelligent to say, when i came back the following day and saw that someone found out it was one of AoC's devs i started cracking up, even though i didnt really believe it.  then a day or two later the AoC team apologized lol, couldnt believe my eyes lol.

believe me or not, it happened.

Well yeah, seems unfair to me too (specially for the Devs) but it's also understandable. People don't really get any real updates and they have no clue what to think.

If the game comes finally out or if we get the official beta announcement or more weekly info - the bad mouthing and concerns will slowly vanish. But there will always be trolls and people trying to push the buttons

DnL actually showed MUCH more development being done than darkfall has over the last 4 years.  funny.  Not to mention darkfall features seems like even more work than a game like world of warcraft.  goooooooooood luck.

Of course this games features indicate more work than World of Warcraft; World of Warcraft is a cookie-cutter MMORPG clone. Dark and Light had a featue list that was a lot more meaty that that of WoW, and if you looked at their promises and then at the game they have put out there you'd realize how much they failed.

"DnL actually showed MUCH more development being done than darkfall has over the last 4 years."

It doesn't matter if it showed more development openly, it is released now and doesn't have a lot of the features that were promised, not to mention the bugs and problems present, the poor quality of some features, and the general lack of polish in the game.

    "people following this: "

Yes, as a matter of fact, I do look rather like that after reading some of your recent posts on this forum.

I think the point just flew over your head and out the window. Point is it took a 100 man team of seasoned pro's 4 years to build WoW. 15 amateurs in Greece are going to build a game with even more complex features?

I think not.  DnL is a good example of whats going to happen since you stated yourself it was even "meatier" than wow and built by amateurs.

It's not impossible for that team to make a masterpiece, hence the references to EVE online, which apparently flew over your head.

EVE is the example of great things that can come from small packages. The anti-DnL in Darkfall comparisons I suppose. There have been a few other moderately successful MMOG's (AtitD) that have come from small companies, which have already been mentioned.

I'm not hoping that Darkfall is a Blockbuster MMOGaming smash that clocks up 12 million subscribers. I would be happy with a couple of hundred thousand, provided the game that they release contains all (or the bulk of) the features that they have aspired toward.

I'd be happy if it was in the 10s of thousands range of customers.  Enough to fill a server or two and keep it going.  Dark and Light promised a lot, delivered very little.

The unfortunate thing about Dark and Light, is its just another that released with the big promises, that never were/are fullfilled.  Now the backlash comes through at every other game thats been in development for a while promising great features.

And since 'DnL' was bad, then surely every other small company MMO will be bad.  Somehow, I don't think this logic works, as pointed out by Yoda93 previously.

Darkfall has a ton of potential, its been in development for 5+ years now, but since they came public about it so early, people assume its vapor because 'they haven't even started beta yet'.

Shadowbane was called vapor for a long time, but it came out.  I think many would agree that it would have been better if it ended up being vapor however, as it was just another disappointment in the MMO gaming industry.

    Back on to topic:

Though I wish to god this game could come to being what is promised, I doubt it will meet that stage on release. There only so much funding a game can get, and its been too many years and still no beta. Yes I do think this will fall into the same path DnL fell into, because its not an easy game to pull off and remember DnL could have kept on being developed, but probably investors decided its time to bring in the money, and they did not postpone the release....a game is harder to make/finish after its been released in retail.

Keep in mind: Lead Developers are Inexperienced game developers. They started as semi-professionals, and never made a game before, so you can't expect them to make a miraculous game like what they've promised, you can only imagine, or hope for that to come true. They also made the engine themselves, and so unfortunately its unproven, and we have no idea what to expect out of it.....Shadowbane's engine is a great example of a game gone horribly wrong, because of its engine aswell as other things.

They are a small team of possibly 40 now, but why didn't they just stick to the game we wanted to see....not all this crap about massive ships, and a load of other bonus features that in fact are really hard to put into a game. I just wanted an open sandbox game with fun Open PvP, real time combat, and the possibility to loot. All the features they are promising are just way beyond what I desire. I can't expect them to pull it all off. If I were them, I would have just kept it simple and to what the gamers initially wanted.

I indeed think that if things keep up as they are with the dead silence towards the community, and no sign of beta, that this game will probably fall under the same path DnL took though DnL had bad ideas from before beta happened. Darkfall doesn't....it has great ideas, but in my opinion too much is being promised, and now can they pull it off before release?

I hope to god they can, but I don't expect them to.....I lost my faith, sorry.

    Have to put something up!

Wernt the ships stated from the beggining? or just for a very long time now? as well as mounted combat and seiging.

They seem to be having more regular updates now through Warcry and IGN which is nice.
But try not to lose faith until ye have a good enough reason, =P and by that I mean something other than 'I don't want to wait anymore'
