Hi all, how's it going?
I was wondering if you could help clarifiy something for me regarding the PS3. Based of my initial information it strikes me that the PS3 although labeled as a concole is actually a higher-end standardized PC with standardized componets, is this a correct assessment?
Thx,
Tauceti
P.S.
FYI; There is a specific reason I'm asking this.

It has similar performance to current PCs, with high-end graphics cards. While everything is slightly below par for today's PCs, the hardware is very specialized, and gets a slight performance increace because of that.
Other than that it's not even remotely as powerful as the initial claims, some of those numbers were 10-30x too big, especially with regard to the cell.
Ok, thanks. This is what I thought.
The reason I was asking this, has to do with the simple question as to why would SOE bother changing the game so radically, if all that was needed was to add the drivers for the PS3 to the game. In other words wouldn't the Pre-CU SWG or even the CU run on a PS3 since it's basically a PC? If so, this seems a less costly move.
I guess what I'm driving at is that it seem that SOE has severly mismananged the business side of this game [yeah I know; obviously..lol] and / or they lost so many of the orginal developers that there is no one left [with the exception of a few dev] who know how to work on a Pre-CU SWG [probably due to cost cutting measures], so there stuck with the few devs they have, who may only know a fraction of the SWG code and capabilities. Other than that there seems to be no logic to this move.
So, with this information. Does anyone have a revised theory to explain all this...lol. I'm just curious.
Thx,
Tauceti

If you remember pre-cu then you remember mouse controloer movement, tab lock targeting, and then macros and function keys for moves, atytacks and foods.... dont forget the use of open inventory to supliment your toolbar keys and keybinds.
Add to that the hug array of interactions with the mobs, environment, other players, quests, items, pets, vehicles, and houses.
Add yet again all the situational aspects of crafting, buffing, tweeking your HAM bar stats, the many various slash commands.
You get a system that requires a PC interface because it is such an indepth game so that would mean that all the console jumkies wouldnt stand a change against we PC-savy folk. What is the solution? Make it a fair playing field for even retards.
That would be my guess. It was probably considered easier and more cost effective for marketing purposes to retard the game for console then to tell everyone they have to buy a keyboard and turn their shit consol into a PC to opperate the game interface fully.

Hi,
yeah I knew that was a concern, but my understanding is that the PS3 would except a mouse and keyboard interface.
Anyhow, I understand what your saying. Basically, they thought if the dumbed-down the game the could attract more people who are younger or don't like to think much...lol. Still, if it had been me in charge I would have kept the orginal concept of the game and kept it for players who wanted a richer gameplay and then created a stripped down version of the game for the console maybe title it Star Wars: Adventures. But, I guess they didn't want to compete with Battle front...lol which ironically they seem to be doing now with the NGE because they almost the same in concept, except BF is better..lol
