Well the game software is a free download from here.

Then all ya gotta do is figure out how your gonna get playing. Be it from a $15 subscription for a month, a SOE gamecard from your local store or trying to hunt down a trial key for a free 10 days.

  • WarmechhWarmechh Member Posts: 126

The SOE gamecard only gave it for EQ, EQII, and Planet Side. Did not say The Matrix Online

They fired the W. bros! Now, what's the reason to play MxO (a little harsh I know, but that was a big incentive for me)? That's like if they fired George Lucas from SWG. Who knows how bad they'll screw it up now? Prediction: They secretly code in a way to become "the one" and eventually someone will unlock it. He/she 'll tell their friends, and get whoever is interested (now referred to as "everyone else") to try to become "the one" too (or two, depending on your sense of humor). Then someone will be nice enough to write a guide on "how to become 'the one'" and everyone will try to become "the one" also. All the neo wannabes will complain to $oe that its too hard to become "the one" and they'll create a village where "the one"s can go to get "the one" quests. It'll go too far, and $oe will smell the money in everyone wanting to be neo and just decide to let them start out as neo if they want. Then, all the veteran playerbase will feel betrayed and quit, leaving MxO near-death until $oe slowly implements old-game features to try to ressurect it.

*This prediction was adapted and changed from another MxO vet's views*

Yet another doomsday prediction completely ungrounded in fact.

    A) The claim of them 'firing' the bros (like they were 'employed' in the first place, haha) is a complete and utter falsehood.

    B) Oddly enough SWG is a seperate entity from all other SOE games, different devs, different licence holder, different existance. Thus people who instantly compare it with any other SOE games are blatanly misinformed.

....if they operate under the SOE logo....then guilty by association. SOE can rot in hell.

  • NoVu5NoVu5 Member Posts: 50

    Precisely Bama1267,

Lets face it, SOE's pi** poor relations with their customers,
butchering games has led to a state where we have ENTIRE THREADS
dedicated on this board:  Official SOE hatred thread.  SWG's subscriber
base went straight down the toilet.  Ask 50 gamers what their opinion
is of SOE - and 1) You'll have a heated topic and 2) the majority, I'll
bet you 3 months of an MMO subscription, will despise SOE.

SOE sucks, and can take their games and rot in h*ll.

It's as I said in the other thread, those who defend MxO and SOE's association with it, really aren't that experienced.  They think UO is a new fangled disease.  LOL.

LOL do people still bitch about sony messing up SWG. WHO CARES SWG was a shit game before sony changed the combat system, so stop crying

As far as MXO goes ive been playing that game since launch, the game had bugs and the combat system was buggy, sony have done a good job with this new combat system. If you played the old system then you will know now that the new combat flows better than it ever did.

And there support has improved they have helped me out alot over the past few days with problems ive been having.

I like what sony have done with MXO.

I wonder who is going to run to mommy first about my post, lol mommy mommy this person likes sony for what they do  they must not have been around online gaming for long

Personally, I was thinking of the EQ debacles.  But since you bring up SWG, yeah, that fits too.  Oh, and MxO is just the latest in the long line.

Let's look at MxO's great "content" shall we?  Ever changing "story" shall we.  You only get ONE NEW MISSION PER WEEK!  ONE!  THAT'S IT!

Other games?  Hundres of quests that differ in makeup before you even make it out of the newbie zone.  You have a newbie series of quests in MxO, and then they cut out by what?  Level 5?  8?  That's it.  End of the line except for 5 mission types.  Assasionation, Escort, Courier, etc.  They ALL RUN THE SAME!

But no!  Wait!  Once a week we get a new critical on an evolving storyline.  ROFLOL.  Yeah - right.  It goes something like this:

We have some new intel on that
lastest ___________ (insert flavor of the month) operative.  But we
need further information.  Please go see ___________ and see what you
    can find out"

    You go to X location.

"Yeah, so and so was here.  I heard them talking about _______ but all they gave me was ____________"

"You better grab that from them X, maybe it will give us clues to the next location"

    So you grab item.

    "Well
operative, it looks like the address of ______  (insert new flavor of
the month character), an old program that did _________.  We have a
previous address, we're not sure if he's still there.  If he is, be
careful, because ______________ (Insert some tidbit that will titilate
the players, but never ends up meaning anything).

    You
proceed to location.   2 programs / Opponents drop out of the sky, and
you fight them, defeat them, and proceed to your location, arriving
    there.

You bust through the door, and there are a bunch of oppenents to fight.

"That's it operative?  It looks like _________ fled the area"

Rinse.  Repeat a few times.  Then you get:

    "Well,
it looks like we've at least tipped our hand.  We'll continue to
investigate this matter of _______ (insert item that they try to make
you think you discovered, when in actuality you had not) and let you
know more soon.  You have done great work on behalf of Zion / the
Machines / The Merovingian - and they are grateful.

That's your new content?  That you login once a week for.  Okkkaayyyy.

    Check
out Mara C or Camon H for some PvP?  There a party?  Not sure.  Did you
hear the latest about X joining the X organization?  Did you hear that
Mus and Ven are dating again?  They are?  Yeah, they have now . . .What
about The Collective?  Oh, they are as rock solid as ever.  Sareosha
hasn't been around since . . . but you know.  OMG - Did you read the
bit on the forums!  Yeah, looks like the LESIG will be dead in . . . .
No way man!  They have something planned that will fix it for sure.  No
    doubt.

I just hate those MxO - haters don't you?

    Yeah.

Hmm?  What now?  Off to the construct?  Nah, I'm bored, roflol.  Let's go to the forums.  Ok, meet ya there, but I have to see if X is at Mara first.  Need to give them some paypack.

the ONLY fuckin problem I have with SOE is the way they're getting the money they make from this game and using it on other games, it's the reason why we have a small dev base, and reason why the devs are so limited to things that they can do. Other than that, SOE did a good job cleaning up the game from all the bugs and adding new content

I'm shocked that you couldn't see the satire that saturated my post, it's probably more obvious to SWG vets. Not to mention never I claimed it to be at all true. I do agree "firing" was a poor choice of words, but it's still a bad move to cut off input from the men who created the Matrix franchise. SOE is SOE, whether MxO, SWG, or EQ. Whichever title they work through, it can't change my horrible opinions of them.

Don't give me a "Can't knock it till you try it" argument. I played the free trial, and it sucked.

I went to MXO after the 1st CU hit SWG, once $OE took over from monolith i didnt care how much better they would make MXO all i know is "i learn from my mistakes".

If you like MXO now just wait they have done it to every other MMO they own and its just a matter of time before they do it to this.

Sorry buts thats Bull shit, they did it to SWG yes, I was pissed like everyone else but I also played EQ and EQ2 and MxO And The changes are for the better, yes they canged some ghapics but unlike SWG you can still choose The 3 classes and branch out from there. If you hate SOE for the SWG shit fine with me but dont ever say that they change everything around on all of their games to fuck with you. I own alot of their games and will defend SOE if I have too. (sorry for the curse words )

While i agree you have the option to defend $OE in whatever way you want - i however can learn from a mistake (Never ever trust $OE) the #1 reason i left MXO.

SWG pre-NGE was playable kind of like what MXO is now - just wait till they get gready and try for the mythical audience they can drag to MXO then you shall see what they are willing to sacrafice (perhaps even learn from it or maybe not) as with everthing the choice is yours.

Yeah.. I figured a while back that they need to just give it up and realize that Blizzard has already made WoW. They gotta stop changing the games they've already got to be more like it. Focus, perhaps, on making the *next* game they develop more WoW-like.. but leave the current games alone. I know they're turning EQII into World of Everquest.

What they did to SWG's players, in the name of greed, is truly disgraceful - I can't blame anyone for loathing them and anything they touch after that. They basically gave an entire playerbase the middle finger, saying "yeah... thanks for all the subscription money and loyalty all these months. At the end of the day, it means nothing to us".

Hey $OE! Thanks for the few years of beta that is still going on now! image  (Ever hear of the joke 'it still feals like beta'? He he...) I enjoyed quiting your once popular "MMORPG" if that is what it is at all. I hope for the worse in the game that you killed so much! (Becasue it was so great from the start minus lots of errors back in beta. Still, it wasl good.) When it almost went gold that was the peak of my first MMOG and looked forward to a good game for my favorite franchise. Good luck in ruining eveything for MxO! *props* I been missing Wanner Brothers allready...   image

You know, I played that game for less than two weeks found out something and hated it ever after. couldn't have happened to a better game and I hope sony grind it into the ground and it vanishes for ever more :)

Shame the concept was good though.
  • Writing SOE as "$OE" or MS as "M$" is so blatantly childish that every argument in the same post as that is completely disregarded since the author have completely missed the point why companies even exist (and produce games and so forth). Good luck in your future ventures, AntiImac.

All what I said here was just my opinion. It was just my view point from playing this game. Ok , yea putting '$OE' was a bit wrong, ill say that. But, I think I have a little right to vent a tad because the thread starts out as 'the offical "We're Angry at SOE thread' and I was. I still am. I doubt ill change my mind otherwise because of some of the follies my one friend and I found and then plus that we were little of what faction we were in. Don't take pity of course, i'm not expecting that but basically I wont change my mind about SOE but what I might do is return to the game because it seems that its getting better so I myself might check it out and see if said is true. Ill just form my own opinion so then simply thats that.

    Cr 2.0, first and foremost.

That revision of the combat system made combat much more fluid. Although now, even lowbies can hit you, I think it provides a more sense of accomplishment for the lower level pvpers. The balance of the trees also helped out alot. In Cr 1.0, I was a level 36 and killing level 50 as a hacker. There is definatly something wrong with that, but hey, it was fun watching them squirm :P

    Bug fixes galore.

Too many to count, but the perma-evade bug on the NPC's were obscenely frustrating.

The reconfiguring of the levels of gangs.

Made it so you wouldn't run from a district with a level 4 gang spawn to a level 13.

    More buffed Items.

I remember the day Cr 2.0 came out with all the new stuff, we all were scrambeling for it.

    The Event.

For some, they are a pain now, for others, a joy.

I like them for the simple fact that most are pretty cruical to the story, and whether your a serious RPer or a |33t H4x0rz you'll get face time with an Live events member.

I know I'm forgetting somethings, but I'm running off of only 2 hours of sleep and a coke.

In any case, I've never had to delt with thier CSR team or what not, and I've heard they are pretty merciless.

But, that's what they're paid to do, and the rule enforcers always have a bad rep.

Call me a fanboy, or maybe I'm just Niave. But, my opinion is that they saved MxO from an early grave. Whether it lives on remains to be seen.

What "SOE" did for TMO, I think, was barely providing the staff with enough financial support and maybe tools (?) to keep the game running.

Maybe the also shared some people with them, like QA or whatever (merely an unbased assumption).

Perhaps that fat-ass president of SoE could have a stroke, crippling his brain functions to where he cannot even bathe himself?

    New management... new possibilities?
