Planetside always seemed pretty popular to me until the expansion came out. That might have just been my perception though.
I always liked the way Planetside really felt finished. There were a lot of details you dont see in most MMOs. Thinks like animations for a character taking out their guns, or a ship or vech coming out of a platform. I love seeing my character jumping in and out of vechs, its beautiful.
I played some of the new Battlefield game, the futuristic one. Theres a demo. I will probably buy it when I get a new computer that can play it well, it was fun. It wasnt as elaborate as Planetside though.
I think the cone of fire thing might have turned off some FPS fans. I know that I loved it, I thought it was brilliant, and that it added to the strategy and realism of the game. But you know, people think different things and all, and I'm not a FPS player really. It was probably the first game however, where I really thought the sniper position was done well. I love how in Planetside Snipers focus on killing afkers and other snipers... it was very classy. I've always disliked snipers and cloakers in other FPS games, but in Planetside they did a really good job with both. In fact, I think they could have even done with a buff really, I wouldnt have minded getting killed by a few more cloakers and snipers. In other games, I hate them both.
Anyways, I could never go back to Planetside. I loved it while I played it. I especially loved my outfit, they were the greatest bunch of guys. Maybe its because its the first game I ever played using voice chat... It really was fun.

Not just your perception, you are absolutly correct... The expansion was the beggining of the end of PS, the lead developer (who left later) actually said in a fansite forums that he was pushed to rush it and release it early by SOE executives...
So agian, we have another instance where SOE ruins a game.

There is not a Planetside 2 planed that I know of but there is a alternative that will most likely be released in the next 2 months or less MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!
