Like the Apollo moon landings, maybe EQ2 is just so much hype, maybe it's not really coming out. (Kidding, of course)

Nah, its coming out sooner or later lol. I'm alittle afraid though, the more push back they do the worse the game might be. Hope this isn't the case. With WOW and UXO coming out for beta here soon, you'd think SOE would get their butts moving though and have a beta date for EQII.
Oh well, just my little ole opinion though, as always.

Yup, they have a huge built-in fanbase. They aren't worried about attracting players, they are worried about getting it right. This release push-back thing has become pretty standard with a lot of mmorpgs. Makes ya wonder if they don't intentionally post an early date just to keep us interested and scoping the website. . .

I agree they have a huge fan base, but I think we're past the point of "worrying about getting it right", I imagine much of it is already done. I think what's happening is there is another EQLive expansion they can squeeze some more dollars out of, and that wouldn't sell at all if EQ2 suddenly popped out.
There is more than just polishing going on here, I think there is a lot of market timing in the works.

EQ2Beta1 was supposed to start sept 03. But SoE lost alot of dev staff and alot of problems were croping up. So, they got the customers to pay to beta test some of the problems (LDoN EQ2 instancing.) And also are using the EQ test server to fine tune some of the interface projects. Now with EQ going to the required DX9 api so they can implement even more of the EQ2 features and let the current customers pay and give feedback on how the EQ2 features play, one wonders how much difference there will be between EQ and EQ2.
EQ only has about 150k individuals playing (many with two and three accounts) so the 400k accounts are not 400k individuals, rather 150k many with 2 & 3 accounts. So with SoE pushing the EQ2 beta back from late 03 to early 04 and now mid 04 the game may not even retail 2004. And I believe it has a May 04 listed retail. Yea, right. How many furious LoE people you think are waiting to use their EQ2beta2 slots? How many customers are confused about even the extent of the cheaters on the Discord server and to what end SoE punished them!
SigilQuest and Mythica still are not out to give even more pressure on subscriber base, not to mention UXO and L2.

That's irrelevant. Accounts=revenue, it doesnt matter if they have one individual with 400k accounts, that's the number.

They have rush hours of 100k accounts at moment(all online)! And you dare think it can be only 400k? hehehehe, and this is OLD info and there is more players now then back then!
You have just no idea how many players/accounts are in EQ!

Yes, these scary thoughts plague me also. Look at what happened to Uru online. Anyways I think that EQ 2 will come out by december of this year and beta's will start in july. If not EQ2 will definitely become a conflict of interest for me.
I am hoping however that EQ2 comes out soon. If WoW is a hit, many EQ2 fans may go to that. Especially with Lineage 2 arriving in April, EQ2 needs to hurry up.
I have thought that maybe the game could just be another SWG. IN my mind I highley doubt it. I just think EQ2 has been delayed so it won't turn out like another SWG. SOE already has enough problems as it is and I doubt that messing up EQ2 would keep them on the top.
This is SOE's last chance of an MMO success. IF it doesn't happen I see many people gettin fired and the future of SOE getting tramped on. Lineage 2 and WoW look equally as good as EQ2 at the moment and they are more enticing since there is a set date for them to come out.
So to sum it all up, until something happens I will stay true to EQ2. Yes that rhymes if it crossed your train of thought. However this does not mean that i wont pick up WoW or Lineage 2. WoW is just too nice not to get. EQ2 needs to come out soon!!!

I can bet money on EQII being out next fall. beta has not even been announced and betas have got to always be before the game's release, right? lol.
