Hello all,

I've been playing WoW for a number of months now and I can tell you I'm totally bored of it now, I don't like the leveling aspect of this game and the only reason I have stayed was because of certain friends. So now I'm looking for something totally new, in truth I'm looking for a game that as aspects of features that Star Wars Galaxies had, so can you lot answer a few questions I have:

First, whats the skill system like, I read somewhere that it's like the one they had on SWG when it first came out. But is this right?

Second, Whats the community like?

Third, What's combat like?

Fourth, Whats the world like itself and can you own houses in the world?

I know thats a number of questions but any help would be appriated, I'm looking for a new game with a great community! where I can make friends because on WoW I couldn't get on with many people! It's not that I'm nasty because I'm a nice player it's just I don't like the idea of rushing your lvl like most in WoW!

Anyway, thanks in advance!

    1) The skill system is quite vast http://ballisticmystix.com/skillTree.jsp - you get stanzas (building blocks) that you can combine in lots of ways. Definately confusing the first time.

    2) Rather small, definately older than the WoW crowd. Very newbie friendly.

    3) Not sure what you want to know here. Slow for a soloer, since you must rest between the fights. Skillbased means it's usually very easy to form a team of both newer and older players.

    4) The world is an alien planet without the presence of metals. Two divine factions, the spacetraveling Karavan and the nature spirits fight for dominance and the human-like people are caught in between.

There's a lot else to do than rush through levels in Ryzom. A lowlevel healer is better than no healer at all. There are roleplayers around. Live events. Real knowledge is more important than level in many cases; how to sneak from one place to another without getting aggro, how to mix a good recipe for crafting.

And you know there's a free trial on ryzom.com?

Thanks for the information, really helpful. I know theres a trial but at the moment I'm looking between The Saga of Ryzon and EVE Online. It's quite tough at the moment but the community in SOR sound great.

    Thanks again!

I think the community is great, at least. But we're not 17 000 or what they are nowadays in EVE. I'm sure that makes a difference. Haven't played EVE myself so I can't compare them. Probably also a very good game.

  • they both have good and bad aspects I guess, I'll give them both a proper go before I decide.

If you want to realy experience the lovely Community, don´t be fooled by the Forums, that´s where many people let of some steam. ;) InGame thei´re even more friendly. It´s a true phenomenon that this seems to be the case in all Communitys, be it International, French, or German.
Don´t let yourself be mislead by the Noob Island either.
ATM its pretty deserted, because most new peeps run of to the mainlands as fast as they can
Nevrax is building a new one though and this´ll hopefully be for the better

If you're coming from WoW, you may get bored of the combat system VERY quickly as a melee if you choose to go that route. If you are the tank you get to hit the taunt button whenever it is up, other than that it is mainly watching your strongest attack repeatedly. If you are not the tank, you go through fight after fight without using more than a couple of buttons once each...honestly, I've done it.

If you are willing to look past the bland combat system, there is a decent amount of stuff to do. Craft, dig, RP, explore and PvP (a bit unpolished/unbalanced, but at least more involved than PvE) are a few of the things you can do. Also, there are at times invasions of Kitin (common enemy of all lands) and player driven events.

An overall decent game if combat is not your main draw. Exploration in the world is rather exciting/dangerous. Moreso than most games I've played save for FFXI. Nice graphics, good crowd of people, crappy combat, good storyline, pass-able PvP and the upcoming Ryzom Ring (basic player made content)...The Saga of Ryzom.

*nods* I agree, in a PvE Battle (read leveling) it can be a bit tideous, but nobody forces you to use one and the same Action the whole time. At anytime you´re able to for example change your wapon, change your attack, or switch to magic, if you want to. So it does not get boring if you don´t let it.
In PvP combat is actually everything else than boring. Each Opponent may have a different resistence, or different Armor, or up to six Opponents may take on you at once, so you need to switch to a roundabout strike in a moments notice. It´s Fun if you just reakt appropriately.

I just can´t understand those Poeple, who take on one Skill at a time, grind it through to 250 and start the next, without ever changeing their play... That would be boooring for me too.

SoR Sounds really great - I am downloading it right now. For me WoW always lacked in depth even thought I liked its hand crafted design. As for the EVE I tried it for a while and I didn’t liked it, really diont understand what the big deal is about it – but it does have a very dedicated fan base.

Aw, EVE´s got beautifull graphics and some realy nice Ideas Systemwise, but I´m not that much into SciFi and it´s pretty hard for me to get into charakter when all I see is my Ship. *shrug*
But It surely deserves its high status.

I like SoR, because it still continues to amaze me, even after two years of play. And that the Comunity is friendly beyond belive, even over international border and Servers.
Sure we´ve got our sour apples, but wich Com doesn´t? *winks at Kurita and grins*
Nice to have you here Man.

Ans ESCO, don´t be fooled by the lak of people on the Newbe Isle, they all go to the Main lands ASAP.
You should do also, as soon as you´re famailiar with the UI and some basic Skills .
Otherwise just ask in Region Chat on the Main Land, people will help, you´ll see.
