Started playing again after about a year away. I think it's great now. I love the quests and, sorry, but I love the combat. This is the game I wanted.

Not sure what everyone hates about it to be honest.

If you want to know what people hate about it, there's no shortage of information. You could start right here in this very forum. If you're (somehow) enjoying yourself however, I'd say just go have a blast and don't worry about it. (= I wish I could join you.

We need more details. When did you start playing? And what do you like?

There's something really wrong with a game, when people need to apologize and beg for forgiveness when they start playing it.

Not sure what you read into the OP post but none of what you said is in there. The OP just said he/she liked the game. What's wrong with that?

I'm not surprized that you like the game, obviously you didn't like the old game. I'm truly happy for you!

My guess is those that truly appreciated the old game just can't stand the limited game that now runs on the servers, at least that's why I hate the current game

I started playing again a few days ago. I originally played it from release and didn't like the combat, because it seemed very awkward and extremely bugged. I also hated the missions as they were bland. In fact the only things I liked about it were the range of classes, the vehicles/pets and of course the settings.

I was never really into crafting in any game so I cannot comment on that side of things as to whether or not that is better or worse, but as for every other change, I really like them. I think the new combat style is awesome and much much better than before. I hated the HAM system.

I come here and all I see are negativity to the changes. It just feels like I am alone in thinking this game is now really cool and I also fail to understand how it was better before. It's all about opinions I guess, and to the person who commented on me having to say sorry because I like it :- the reason I said sorry was because I was going against popular opinion and I didn't want to upset anyone. I guess it was me being polite.

See that's why you like it. You didn't like the original, and that's excellent I am happy for you honestly. However as for what I personally dislike about it... here you go. #1 I didn't want an FPS game which is what they gave me. I liked the original combat system, and the CU was ok at best, this new one is too difficult to play for me because I play on a laptop. Also I have friends that are physically challeneged that love this game because they could play it, now they can't, too me that is just plain wrong! #2 I hate the fact that everyone is the same exact thing now, sure they're changing it, but it's going to take another 3-5 months before they do it. So basically they launched a game that wasn't anywhere ready to be launched to try to cash in on all the little kids that were going to get christmas presents, and they launched a game that wasn't ready. People say it was ready, ok well they tell me this... Why do they need to revamp trader? Oh yeah because there's no point in being a trader now, why do they need to revamp entertainer, oh yeah there's no point in being and entertainer. Why ware they adding the expertise system oh yeah because people like variety. It sounds to me like SOE is slowly turning the game back to what it was, target lock, expertise system, player bounties coming back, because they realized they screwed up. However it's too little too late. They have alienated a large part of the people that backed them and supported them from day 1. So there that's why I cannot stand this game now, why to I still complain, because I hold out hope that the game I loved will come back it's the only MMO I want to play, but in it's current version, it isn't worth it to me... because well all the stuff that they are working on in this game no one should have to pay to play. It should be alpha or beta testing, not launched!

I like the new system too, I dont think they should have removed the crafting system since the NGE was basically a combat upgrade that shouldn't have changed crafting so drastically.

What I do wish they had was another storyline quest for the 40-70 level range, and that they raised creature health to what it used to be.  At level 40 the most effective way to level was to go to dath and kill off every lvl 82-94 creature I saw.  With a rifle this is rediculously easy and horribly boring.

For the most part, the crafting mechanics weren't really changed.  Weaponsmith is really the only one that is pretty worthless at the moment.  The lack of decay has affected AS's a bit, but people are also prepared to go all out and buy a fully layered suit which you wouldn't do pre-nge unless you had a full set of ADK's to cover each armour peice.

To be honest, aside from all the bugs and that sort of stuff that will keep me from ever returning, the one thing that really caused me to discontinue playing was the new interface. I can't stand it. It turned a pretty open interface into a console gaming interface that limited what I could do. I tried, really hard, just to try to get used to it. But I couldn't. It was horrible. And I so wanted to like it because unlike others, it would have been fun to play with some of the limited character classes they now have, but I found myself feeling that I was so limited in movement from the way it was now designed that I finally just gave up. When I first complained about this, the fanbois told me to just get used to it or shut up. So, I cancelled my account instead. It's too bad because even with the evil SOE thing going, they still could have made this work.

You can download a mod that will change the UI to the Pre-NGE UI.  According to the TSRs it's legal to use and can be downloaded here.  If you take about 30mins, you can change your keymap ingame to work pretty much the same as it did pre-nge too :)

Not going to happen. I don't use OUTSIDE UIs. If the game is designed poorly, I don't go out of my way to find outside sources that FIX the game. I ran into so many problems with that concerning both UO and WoW where each new patch made life a living hell for quite some time before it was possible to fix the third party solution.

It's this same kind of attitude that's used when a game is poorly designed with the story and some apologizer comes onto a board and states "the answers can be found at XYZ web site". In other words, the answers to a game problem can't be found within the same game, and to me, that's a badly designed game in which you have to rely on infinite trial and error or the web site of some lucky person that clicked the right button once or went down a path clueless and stumbled into the Holy Grail that was stuck into the game as somewhat of an afterthought.

Not really, it's just the old UI that was designed by the SWG devs, extracted from the TRE files.  You will need to upgrade it when Pub 29 hits since the pub adds a new feature to the UI, but unless they add a new thing (this is the first time since the NGE was released) then you won't need to keep changing it each time a patch is done.

You will enjoy the game then there are a ton of bugs, but I am still enjoying the game, and if you like what it offers now then you will like it too.

Armorsmith mechanics wern't changed as much with the NGE since the CU had already really dumbed them down. With the CU, the experimentation / layering process was toned down severly not to mention the little "resource musical chair" crap they pulled. In many cases that negated years of effort for Armorsmiths... not to mention the devaluation of experimentation suits as well. Oh, and I hope you didn't have any armor and armor components in stock when the CU hit too but I'm getting of the mechanics of it here.

Well, then we get the NGE. Without decay the only thing left to experiment on within our simlified crafting process, condition, is no longer important. There's resistance of course but with that being the only thing, you can toss in any old resource you find lying around and you're set (relatively, of course). Additionaly, without decay return business is obvioulsy reduced.

I don't know what your server was like obviously but I was selling tons of layered armor everyday.

Thats great you are enjoying the game , I wish I could . But it is hard to enjoy something that is ever changing . I feel why should I bother learning a system that can change on a whim . It just seems fruitless and futile to me at present . When they get their act in order , and have what they believe as their final installment (finsished product) I will give it another go , Until then to me it is pointless .
