Continual disconnects?

VexinVexin Member Posts: 297

I'm trying to play this game (on a 7-day trial).  I installed it successfully yesterday, so I'm only about 24 hours into it.

However, I cannot play the game for more than 15 or 20 minutes without getting a server disconnect (sometimes less time).  I've tried playing the game under Windows 2000 and Windows XP, and that doesn't seem to make any difference.

I played WoW on this same machine for about a year without seeing this kind of fragility with the server connection, so I know it's not the machine.

Does anybody else experience this game-breaking disconnection problem?  I want to give it a fair chance, but this is just ridiculous.

[edit] Machine stats:  3.0GHz P4 w/HT.  160GB HD.  Audigy LS, 1GB DDR333 RAM, ATI RADEON 9600SE (128MB).

I just happened to see a MOTD when I logged in about disconnects and the Linksys routers.  I went to the Ryzom web site and found the FAQ on it.  Apparently, this 10-minute time out thing has been happening for years!  Um, that's not good.  All the other MMOs I've played have not had time-out problems like this (and blamed it on the router).  It sounds like some old networking code in the game, not the routers, are what's really at issue here.  I tried the suggested workaround (the port triggering), but no dice.

I'm saddened.  I really, really wanted to play this game because I think I would have liked it.  But I'm not going to go out and buy new routers -- or expose my network internals with a blanket DMZ trick -- just to play it.

    Oh well.

To my knowledge this problem is uniqe to Linksys routers. I have played this game using other routers without a problem. So blaming this soley on Nevrax might not be entierly true. However I know basicly nothing about these kind of things so I might not be one to talk about it :P

Yeah, I've heard about people having that kinda disconects and stuff, never had them myself, but whenever I have any techy problems I just head into Klients and poke someone there, theres usually someone around to help you fix it ;)

    Hope it works out :)

Jup, Linksys seems to have some real issue with SoR, for their´s are the only Routers wich ahve these problems.
Stragely all others work fine. Sorry to hear that you´ve got one of those.
I can understand your frustration, but please refrain from blaming the Game for all trouble. It may just be that Linksys does not support some Software SoR needs, not always the other way around, eh?
Sorry, I work with a lokal Internet provider and people always blame us first when something goes wrong with their PC, even if we can proove that their Ethernet Card or CPU is defunct. *grumbles* It´s our fault that they overclocked their CPU and it burned out.
    Sure....

So, look here for some help  and I hope it´ll work soon.

Yes I recommend entering Klients or sending a mail to support-ee@ryzom.com

Either way the support team are known to be very helpful with issues :)

Had other MMOs I've played exhibited the same problem with my Linksys router, I'd not have blamed the game.  However, after many MMOs (and many people in the same house playing different MMOs at the same time through the one router), it hardly seems that the router is the one at fault.  Or if it is, it is only because the network code in Ryzom is quite a bit older than that found in other MMOs.  It was simply that that formed the logic of my complaint.

Um...yeah.  I read that and tried it already (see my second post above).  It didn't seem to work for some reason.  I still got the "Please wait..." timeout after 10 minutes with the port triggering set up the way the FAQ describes it.

Guys, I'm not looking for a fight here.  I want to play the game.  I'm not here to flame it or the people who wrote it or any of you.  I was just hoping somebody here might have run into the same problem I'm having (even having tried the port-triggering setup), and might be able to impart another solution that worked for them.

I'll just keep looking for a solution through the rest of my trial period.  Thanks to all for the input you've provided.

Best advice is to download klients, the live chat support.  One of the CSR they have on 24/7 duty there can surely help you.

I also experience disconnects on my WiFI D-Link router.

After a while I figured why I got disconnects, my wife!!!

As soon as she enters the game dungeon (a.k.a. the office) she somehow disturbs the magic-sap-link between my router and my almighty computer. Unfotunately I told her this and now when she want's company, she walks in and roam around in the game dungeon

NEVER USE WiFI AND ALWAYS LOCK THE ENTRANCE TO THE GAME DUNGEON.

One drawback to locking is that she suspects you of surfing for unlicensed, deflowered, in your dreams misttresses.

The Saga of Ryzom is the greatest game ever to hit the internet (and SWG pre CU).
