Well, I see the overall quality of online games to be very low. Reality TV proves you don't have to be good to be popular. I prefer not to compare games with each other, but to what I think a good game should be. I'm still waiting for one to come close and have got my eye on a couple, but to be honest, I'm keeping my expectations low so I don't feel so dissapointed. That might be a cynical view, but there you go.
Originally posted by Glemoran What's the MMORPG you would NEVER play again (even if they pay you?). And I am not speaking only about the game itself, but also about the customer's support, the way companies are treating the player comunity.
ALL Korean/Asian MMO's that are copies of themselves and NEVER let's you bind your own keys.
Also I wouldn't touch WoW again for anything, not because it is/was addictive but just how it's mindnumbingly boring and a chatroom for people who are soooooooooooooo horny about their items and how they're gonna go kill some more mindless mobs to get better ones.
WoW - I got tired of the hunt-kill quests, especially when I haed like 5 different ones all wanting the hides of some raptors or something in 5 DIFFERENT ZONES. A raptor is a damn raptor. Not to mention the game crashed increasingly with every update and the only customer service they gave was "uninstall and reinstall and see if that works". Boring and stupid and I hate the fact I can't erase the time I wasted in it from my XFire profile...
Final Fantasy XI- great game and fun at the lower levels but customer support sucked, needed lots of time, and after 3 months or so of inactivity you had to buy a whole new set of discs.
GW- Pretty good PvP. Made a PvP character and tried to unlock skills for him on my PvE character but I just couldn't stand the PvE. It had good quests but it became a pain in the ass when i had to fight almost everthing i came in contact with since it was instanced and the mobs had no spawn radius(or w/e you want to call it) so they'd follow you forever.

EQ2 - i could never see the fun. tried hard Biggest issue to me is these games need to cater to both the single player and the group player because we the player base want both. Will add the raid content in wow is starting to annoy me. I am a raider in wow, but sooo sick of it now. Would like to see more diverse stuff.
I think you are a little hard on them but indeed Stormreach IS a minimal world....
I completely agree with you about the next 2 games...
SWG - I used to like it, but the NGE just screwed it over.
UO - Old school UO was great. They totally need a revamp before I'd ever consider playing it again.
MxO - The cities were bland and so were the missions. You pretty much just beat up weird-os camped out in offices in buildings. I didn't like the combat system either. It was too buggy.
CoH - Nothing to do but beat up thugs.
Runescape - Didn't really catch my attention. Wasn't very fun.
SWG - for taking what should have been the biggest MMO in the American market at the time and totally failing - for wiping years of in-game work with the NGE
6 months, maybe a year ago I'd say without hesitation Horizons, but they are slowly redeeming themselves. (Remember the Alamo!) Anyway now it's SWG. Instead of characters in World of Warcraft with Big "?" and "!" above their heads, you got people in real life with ?'s and !'s wondering just how could it fail. It's Star Wars FFS.

I´ll add EVE. took away all the fun in an MMORPG, and PVP really is the only thing thats in that game. It takes a long time to learn, while that really doesn't have to be the case.the combat is so boring its not even normal anymore, has a bad skill system that really has time played > all even more then other MMO', to even stand a chance you have to specialize in something. Everything is SLOW. the combat is slow, traveling is slow, to the point where it can take up to 20 minutes just traveling.the game is also very frustrating. EVE took everything negative about MMO's, where other MMORPG's of today focus more on actual FUN, EVE took the genre back to where an mmo takes a lot of time and has a lot of waiting.
I resubbed a few times thinking I was just missing something. I wanted to see what the big numbers were seeing, but I just kept getting bored. So I won't put myself through that again.
There have only been two other games I was really disappointed in, Shadowbane and Horizons. But even they had more to offer than WoW.
Honestly, I dont even know where to start with this topic.
I was bored by EQ within minutes, and that leveling/grinding system has been sadly adopted by most mass-market MMOGs. I would have to classify CoH/V, EQ1/2, and WoW as being all equally abhorrant. The only MMOGs that I've actually enjoyed since UO have been DAoC, Shadowbane (I liked the concept, could never get into the game), and EVE.
I think most games which PvE is the only content, based around pointless leveling tend to blur themselves together into a gray area of mediocrity. If I wanted to play a single-player game, I actually own quite a few. I play MMOGs to play with other people (even if theyre mostly morons).
I have to agree with almost everthing Gameloading said about EVE. It is IMHO the worst MMORPG out right now. I know there are a lot of people enjoying EVE but for the life of me I don't understand how.

Really? I've never played EVE but I admired the game very much (the screenshots I saw were great!:) and I was about to try it...I think I will though, just in case...who knows? maybe it will fit my playing style.

Um, exuse me? I'm about to go into serious rant mode! You don't talk about virtual worlds like that in front of me, seriously. Especially since I play one and am very passionate about it. I've been enjoying There (A Virtual World) since April 2004. Your little comment is pethetic, and obviously you know nothing about the concept or idea behind virtual worlds or the metaverse. Virtual Worlds are based on the idea of user created content and the ability to express your creativity in any number of ways. I suggest you read the book Snow Crash, basically all virtual worlds descend and are based on that book.
Its the story of a digital world that is actually real, if that makes any sense. You can be in it and feel everything within it, its like an upgrade to virtual reality but with a twist. Basically virtual worlds are meant to change the way people communicate and interact online, virtual worlds are meant to be an advanced communication platform, not something people call "gay" or "lame". Its a serious subject, something most MMO players don't know anything about.

I just want to know why everyone thinks I either work for There or get paid by There. I don't, it is as simple as that. But if the oppertunity arises I am sure i'd love to work for There, but the sad fact is I am no where near There's offices so it is near impossible. I do the advertising I do out of passion and enjoyment for There. I like the product and I think I could at least thank There by showing off their amazing product.
If you don't like me you'd hate There's own forums, those guys and gals are even more passionate then me! Some of 'em have even been members since beta, but unfortunetly I don't have fond memories like that. They get mad if There opens 1 second late after beta, I don't even get up that early to log on.

Well if that's the case then I ESPECIALLY vote There the worst one.
Now shut up, you're ruining a perfectly good thread with this gibberish.
RYL is the worst game,100% horrible. There alot of reasons I didnt like it,and the only game i ever felt the need to flame.I never did flame it all that much but im sure most of the mmo players here dont like it.
way to class restricted for me,
items are way to level restricted for me,
Forced to party to gain XP REALLY killed it for me.(I do like to party but dont force me)
Cant farm low level mobs, they drop nothing, killing more of my freedom.and left me level grinding.
No crafting, well theres sorta some crafting,.
Quests where vary easy and didnt last long.and left me grinding.
Pvp is mostly 1 hitting,It seems that low level duals where the most fun,And againe left me grinding.
and the lack of depth in character advancement was the last straw,.
If this game suits you then no need to defend it,but I dont like it.I felt forced to just grind with nothing to do,and to grind for a pvp system that I knew I didnt like.I did 2 characters to lvl 45 or so.
