Seed

Has anyone played this? I am interested in it, as it looks very different.

I see it's got mixed response from people, but what can you actually do with your time minus 'role playing'? Are there actually quests and tasks? [if so, lots?], can you increase skills/weapons/items (do you even have weapons/items).

Any information would be welcomed

There is an overview with screenshots located on this site.  Many people have said it to be a very unique online game with a primary focus on tradeskills and engineering rather than combat.  There is currently a free 14 day trial so you can try for yourself without any cost.  I have linked for you a wiki site below with information on how to enroll into the free trial as well as links to download the client from the official site.

I just posted a review of this game which I will post here after I answer you questions.

What can you do besides actual roleplaying?
Not much. You can fix hatches which gets boring fast. You can attempt to craft however there are limited resources and people hoarde them.

Are there actual quests and tasks?
There are some but you have to go around saying /whatsup to all sorts of npc's to find any. Then once you do there is a chance it will require a tool that isn't available. You also could end up with one where the npc says "follow me" then runs so fast you can't keep up.

    Are there lots of quests?
No. If there are you have to ask so many people whatsup it's not worth the effort.

Can you increase skills/weapons/items (do you even have weapons/items)
Skills are increased like Eve, that being over time. You can get inspiration drops but they aren't implemented well at all. For example you would have the max level basic repair skill, then get inspiration drops to increase the basic repair skill, even though it's maxed. It would be fine if you could delete them, but you can't. They end up just taking space in your inventory. Most of the high level skills revolve around tools that aren't even in the game yet. Aside from all of that most of the skills don't really appear to do much of anything at all.

There are also items/tools. Though not that many of them. The ones that are in game cost so much that it takes forever to be able to afford them.

    Now here is my review:

I've been following this game for a very long time. I've tried my best
to support it, even going so far as subscribing for the first two months. I realize
that it’s a small company and they don’t have the same resources as a large
company. Having said that I can no longer honestly suggest this “game” to
anyone. The interface is horrible. The game’s main point is that it’s a haven
for RP and this wonderful AI system. Well the only problem is that the chat
system in game is horrible. In order to talk with NPC’s you have to use slash
commands, yet they aren’t easily accessible in game.
There is nothing to do really, except repair
hatches. There really aren’t any tools in the game to do advanced repairs with.
The devs say it’s because resources are limited and the players have to make
them all. Well that’s fine and dandy on paper but in reality it just makes
things boring. Why can’t the machinery in the Seed colony produce some tools?
    Here is a better breakdown:

Graphics: The look of the game is nice, I will admit that. However
there are collision problems and camera problems.

Controls/Movement: OMFG! Yes that sums it up. You move by clicking the
mouse somewhere and your character moves to that point. That would be if it
worked half the time. I would spend more time clicking to go somewhere than
actually going places. There is no map, so you can spend hours trying to find
you way somewhere. They do have things called pathfinder signs, of course all
of the ones in the largest area aren’t even in the game yet. Or you can use the
WASD setup. Why not let people use the arrow keys?

Sound: This is an easy one. Go someplace really quiet and you will
experience the sound in Seed. It’s virtually nonexistent. There are really
three sounds in game. One is a beep when you log on, another is a generic tool
sounds that only works some of the time, and the last is the sound of footsteps
which also only works some of the time. I’ve played games without music before,
Ryzom was one of them. It didn’t matter though because you had environmental
    sounds. Seed has nothing.

Gameplay: You go and click on a hatch, click on a tool and wait. You do
this over and over and over. There is also crafting however due to the limited
number of resources you really can’t craft much of anything. Also in order to
get advanced tools when they do arrive you need lots of ap (the games
currency). The only ways to get that are fixing hatches and crafting.

Stability: Double OMFG! They seem to have gotten the servers somewhat
stable but the client is buggy as hell.

The big push of this game is RP. I can accept that. That does not mean
that RP should be the only thing that makes the game fun. RP should work with
the games systems to make it more fun. My suggestion is to avoid this game in
its current state. Maybe they will get their act together 6 months or a year
down the line. Right now, it’s not really a game that should be asking for
    people to pay to play.

I mostly agree, although there is more to Seed than simply fixing things.  There should be a whole political and economic structure in the game, but it is slow to get moving, mostly due to the fact that it is all in the players hands, and as mentioned, resources and "know-how" are limited at this point in the game.

The biggest complaint I have about Seed is it's condition right now.  Although it has imrpoved, this game was released way too early, and it has suffered because of this.  The concept is incredible, and it could work out great with a few more months of polish and fine tuning the basic and most fundamental aspects (movement, communication, etc.)

I recently cancelled my subscription, but will keep a close eye on this game for the future.
