Worth playing?

goofy3kgoofy3k Member UncommonPosts: 250

I played SWG few years back, started playing just before vehicles and player cities were added. It is one game that i still think about after i left (none of my friends wanted to play it). Had a great time in that game. Played most other mmorpgs and at the moment i have no game to play...

Been playing wow which i recently went back to and it makes me feel so sick when i get in game. I want to play SWG again but have read so many bad things, and i tried free trial and it has changed alot lol.

Would it be worth reactivating my account or is it really doomed?

Why dont you read some of the I hate the nge and sony online entertainment posts then come back and ask again? Whatever you knew of the game back then is nomore lol, no but seriously man before you go spending that 15 bucks read the posts here first, then make a decision.

For the Combat & Professions?? No.

For the Star Wars content? No.

    For friends & non-Combat? Yes.

The funny thing is that the best parts of the non-combat game haven't been changed (cities, decorating, dancing, crafting, vehicals, etc.). The sad thing is that what made you feel unique in SWG is gone. The Profession / Combat systems are SO bad now it's almost worth playing just to see for yourself.

It's a tough call that can only be made by you.

I'll start my own SWG... with Black Jack... and Hookers!!!

    In fact, forget the SWG!!!!

The posts here are what have changed my excitement lol. And in the trial i see the game is now level based or somthing and the skill trees dont seem to be there. And i made a jedi in the trial lol.

Well guess i wont be playing swg then :(

One last question - what is hte pvp like now? Can bounty hunters kill jedis etc? Does pvp actually happen?

There is a big nerf about to happen that will change the BH vs. Jedi combat.  There is a lot
of whinning about that on the Sony Forums.

I am glad to hear we save you $15 dollars.

BH's could always kill Jedi. I had an undefeated Jedi & a BH, it was all about playing smart.

My BH killed Jedi Pre-9, even in full comp, and I killed a TON of them post Village & durring the CU.

My Jedi stayed alive by playing smart: Retreating when needed, regrouping and counter-striking. Most BH I killed in seconds by just knowing my template, but there were some darn good ones who prepared and made the fight last up to 30 minutes. I was undefeated because I roll-played, kept a low profile and was always ready for a fight. I NEVER used a mobile-home, exploits or Logged.... why? Because that's not what a Jedi would do.

You forgot about the use of saber throw for those pesky BHs who would chase on bikes... ;)

I had a buddy who managed to kill more bikes than BHs, and he killed a LOT of BHs.

Try it and see for yourself.  There's a free trial available if I'm not mistaken.  It only allows you access to "The Station" though, so if you want to try out the rest of the game, I STRONGLY suggest you pay on a month by month basis.

SOE knows what you like... You don't!
And don't forget... I am forcing you to read this!

Instead of approximately 18 combatant professions, there are now 7. The player economy was obliterated and is now loot based. Some crafting professions were negatively effected more than others -for example, weaponsmith crafting was not only dumbed down, but cannot even remotely compete with looted weapons. One can no longer have enhanced weapons made.

The player interdependency is essentially gone. If you are more of a solo player, you may tolerate this game better than others. Be warned, there is another major change to combat in the works. The publish plan (the dangling carrot) the devs have developed for NGE 'completion' goes well into 2007. The publishes that were suppose to be more frequent and 'bug free' take several weeks to go live, usually has major issues, and often doesn't hold to the projected 'plan'.

If you enjoy the space portion of the game, you will fare far better. The devs left most of space alone!  If you could not decide by playing the trial, and have $15.00 that will not be missed, by all means try the game out. Just make sure you pay only month to month.

A larger portion of SWG is intact than many here would have you assume. I suggest you try out the trial (which is almost entirely the changes and new stuff) and see if you like it. Or you could plop down $15 and try out the full version for a month. It's not exactly going to break the bank.

But if you only played before they added vehicles and cities, I think you'll find a lot in SWG to like.

One of the major complaints about SWG and SOE is the fact that SOE has, can and does change the gameplay significant and with little to no warning.  For $15 dollars, you'll be playing an alpha quality game in which SOE is still expirimenting.  Many, many people were unhappy with the NGE not only because it is bug ridden, lacks Star Wars content, and was painful (and I do mean the ui was painful) to play, but basically, they disregarded all the players that had spent time building a virutal word.  All of that was thrown out.

Instead, SOE wants to have short term turn over rather than an long term player base.

    Save your $15 dollars.

LOL, sorry for the hijack, but I had to add:

LMAO!!! I actually had a JP, BARC & 2 AV-21's to my kill list, and that was before the restoration kits were added :)

I would let them knock my health down a bit (baiting them because I was MD at the time) and then FR away like I was running. Most BH pull out a swoop, but some wanted the extra speed and use a rare vehic. I'd go up a steep hill (it's deceptive how far away you are) and when they started up it I would turn around and disable their vehic, lol. The real BH know their prey, and they wouldn't fall for it, but the CU Respecs ALWAYS fell for it, lol. I actually destroyed 6 Swoops of one BH... he had a macro to pull them out of a crate and gen them, lol.

    Oh, TY, I need that!!!

I think you can still log into your old account and get a 15 day free trial to check it out for yourself.
