I was looking into buying the game. I am a long time wow player but the game is old now and i was wondering what people are playing more, Guildwars or Guildwars Factions. Also any feedback on things about the game would be nice.
The two games are pretty different, but right now Factions is the more popular title. Not to say that no one plays Prophecies, that game still has lots of people.
Guild Wars: Prophecies The game has been out for a year, so there's self help stuff for anything and everything in the game. This one is also easier, as many of the mobs are not that co-ordinated. The game entrance is very slow, but this can give you the time you need to learn the game without the game kicking your butt. This one will also probably last longer overall, as bonus content was added to this game some 6 months ago in the form of Sorrow's Furnace. High level content is lacking, however, so once you beat the game and all the quests there's not really all that much to do.
Guild Wars: Factions This one is still being balanced and such, so not everything is bug free. On the up side, this game is much harder than Prophecies, as the high level content starts very early on. Also, the initial startup is not very long at all, and you could probably make it to max level in a few days of casual play, or a few hours of hard play. There are also two additional classes available in Factions that are not available with just Prophecies. This one doesn't seem to be very newbie-friendly, however, because of the steep learning curve.
On the plus side, if you buy one and decide you like the game, you can pick up the other one later on and take any character you make through both games. So, no worries on which you pick first.
Factions is newer, so a lot of people are playing that.
However, I'm still doing the old game (never did finish the last few co-op missions of the PVE campaign) and there is no shortage of people in the old game either.
One huge advantage to the fact that GW is "serverless" is that if it's less crowded, they'll just have less "instances" of a city zone, but within any instance, it's always got plenty of people.
