Its totally not worth it for 95% of the people playing...but its soooooooo hard to stop. I mean I managed to quit smoking (been clean for almost 1 year ) but I still cant even think about completely quitting mmorpgs (even if I kinda want to :P )

If your a social person then yes, very. Meet pple around the world in a great exciting environment.
If your spending hours on msn for example then you may as well be playing MMOs.
OR.....
Its like asking: "is going on vacation worth it?" ... sure at the end you have nothing physical to show for it but its the things you experience and the people you meet that make it special. LOL its like living an endless virtual vacation but without the actual hassle of leaving your home (this is especially true for more "serious" games, not games like WOW) not to mention the very minor cost to entertainment ratio...

Just my opinion of course but.... WOW is fine if you just want to run around and have some fun every now and then but i didn't feel it fit my description. Didn't want to totally derail the thread, sorry.
Is drinking or doing drugs worth it ? Both cost way more and you get far less imo but people still seem to do it....alot more then they play MMOs.
I think it's worth it. I like playing MMOs more then I like doing most things. I'd rather spend my nights playing an MMo then sitting in a stinky bar talking to some drunk ass........ well at least the game isn't stinky
ok.. but what i mean is not just playing MMO 's maby 1 hr a day im talkin about playing for like 5 hrs a day per day ... is that really worth the time ?

Is any recreational hobby? I watch Adult Swim on my off-days (or, rather, off-nights), and it lasts a helluva long time. But it's entertaining.
A game has no more or less value than the individual playing it ascribes to it. There is no greater truth than this. I say WOW isn't worth my time/money, others disagree. There's no "right" or "wrong" in value, only opinion.
Only when customer opinion turns against the value of a game among most people, then the game starts to dwindle or fail. SOE had to learn the hard way that if you don't continuously cultivate loyalty and trust in a customer base, that you will loose that customer base the moment it becomes "unfashionable" to use your product.
Sadly, Blizzard and others are bound and determined to learn this lesson the hard way themselves. They apparent missed the parable that goes "a wise man learns from his mistakes; a wiser man learns from the mistakes of others"...
yes i agree i am 30 yrs old work 70hrs plus a week for my wife and 2 kids i have always enjoyed mmo's and all sorts of other video games, so paying a measely 15 per mmo a month is awesome, i hardly ever drink a beer and never do drugs it saves me gas money and you figure the cost of renting or going to the movies or out to dinner alot or bowling theme parks is alot more expensive, and some monthes i only play 20 hrs total and some months i log 100 plus hours, so for me its great! i still enjoy dark wizard for the sega cd as well as shadowrun for the sega genesis, i have played 14 mmo's to date and now that i have found MMORPG.COM i look so forward to trying a boatload of other mmo's, so yes an mmo is worth paying to play only 5 hours a month or more when i have time,,,, except when i am outta grape koolaid and lemon cookies..

what are you really trying to ask in this thread?
did your parents cut you off from a game and you're looking for reasons to give them to justify playing?

bulls-eye!!! This dude made 3 topics in less than a few minutes...2 with the goal to get him some info about how to respond to his parent's arguments and 1 to scout the market for a new mmorpg to move from wow Not saying its anything bad...I just feel used (the smilies on this forum suck...)

is it worth it? everything is worth it! If you think something isn't worth it then you're spending too much time analyzing your life when you could be having fun! EVERY POSSIBLE THING YOU DO, CHOICE YOU MAKE, ANYTHING IN LIFE is worth it. It could be negative, but it teaches you to not do it again, it could be positive teaching you that it was pretty sweet
I hate people that constantly take about regrets...wasting your life away wishing to be something else. Dumb

You ask a lot of questions...some of them aren't that good ether.
But to answer your question no it's not really worth it because in the end it's just a game. But it's something fun to do.
