For FPS I have a great time with Day of Defeat Source, same engine as CS but alot more fun. MMO's i'm stuck on as well and am waiting for something to come out that's worth while:) good luck on your search.

If you like Superheroes you could give City of Heroes a try. It's a solid, mostly bug-free game with some decent content. Most people enjoy it for at least a while when they play. It has a very good combat engine -- very solid.

The main drawback is that the content is HIGHLY repetitive. A lot of people feel the game bogs down after 30th level or so (out of 50). You can make lots of alts, but there's really only enough content for one trip from 1-50, so any alts you make will be going through old storylines you have already done once -- this doesn't do much to help the repeitive feeling.

That said though, most people can get a good solid 3-6 months out of the game before they get bored with it... and since you and your friends switch games a lot, that might be enough. Also with the City of Villains expansion, you do have a 2nd storyline you can follow, and it plays out a bit differently since you're the bad guy.

There's also (zone-restricted) PVP in the game, but the general consensus is that the game engine and superpowers setups are just really not amenable to good solid PVP (and I agree with that consensus). At last count only about 5% of the population bothered with the PVP zones.

My personal feeling is, this game is well worth a look (I think they might have a 14 day free trial as well -- they did recently, though I don't know if it is still going on), and well worth playing for a few months. After that it gets very repetitive and grindy -- mostly I still play because there's not much else out there that I like. GW is great in short bursts but not something I can play for hours on end... and most of the other games out there are just re-hashes of the same tired old crap that's been out for years (with slight twists).

    C
