"And also tell them to stay away from realworld sizes."
Why? Is it because you enjoy those claustrophobic asian MMclOnesRPG?
MMO's should not be small, channeled nor played on billions of stand-alone servers it should be a world that is able to hold lots of players in the tens of thousand with the given amount of space/area to hold them and much more. ^^
MMORPG does not seem to be the thing for you, as you said yourself.
MMO's need to be as large as a real world as possible in my opinion. I like playing games that feel so big traveling from city to city actually takes some real world time.
I agree we should push for newer un-used game design concepts, but companies prefere to stick to tried and true genres, stuff they know will work. After all they are a business. Just wish some good companies would make a decent sci-fi game. Personally i felt Starcraft was more needed in the mmo world then warcraft.

Originally posted by frostydf2 Their really is no 'awsome' game out. Everything is stale. that is why everyone is waiting for the next wave of MMORPG's to come out. Whether that be the hardcore pvp'rs in War. The hardcore grinders in Vanguard, the super casual in Conan, or the fun type in Hero's Journey. Your best bet is to wait. By the way. I gave EVE an honest trial. It isn't that great.
It is. Just not for you.
Your absolutly right, you have no real avatar, your can´t controll the ship completly, etc And if thats the things you need in a mmorpg to make it appealing to you, eve is not what you are looking for.
But for people that want a single dynamic, playercontrolled, scifi-universe, where crafting matters, and economics and politics are a driving force of the lore of the world ... well, for those people eve might be the "one" game they were looking for.

I'm in the same shoes. I play WoW but I'm only SETTLING for WoW 'cause I've TRIED everything... Coincidence that I too came from AO??.. I think not! Everything's a let down since that game. I was an AO junkie back in the day.. It was great; It's just aged to me now.
heh I am in the same boat as you guys -not settling for any game at the moment but AO was my first love and I think it might be very hard to replace that "first-love" feeling. Otherwise I will recommend a break in MMOs while dreaming of hopefully great things to come in AoC and Fallen Earth.

You could try one of the many niche games. Tale in the desert 3, Seed, Horizons (great crafting). Or even pick up *shock* Star Wars - Galaxies *shock* It doesn't have the depth it once had but all the winers went away too! Its surprisingly refreshing.
try gunz a little bit... after getting to level 35+ it kinda started getting boring but with all the new stuff the people are making up like attack and defend, other match that people make rules for but cannot enforce them with anything but a vote to kick people... it is actully fun because i find there will be ALWAYS someone better than u no matter what and also when the quests come out.. o boy its gonna be fun(high expectations here)

Was also in the same position. I am currently playing EVE, I understand why some think it dull, prob is it really does take you about 3 months before you can get into the parts of the game that are interesting. There isn't much you can do about it either with its real time training system. I still like it though and I can see the potential it has for me in the future even if it isn't that much fun at the moment.
I plan to play Conan when it comes out and the good news for me is that my guild who I played WoW with are also moving so I already have a guild for it with people I have played with for about a year. I plan to keep EVE running side by side and train up so I will have something for when I stop playing Conan. For now I play EVE and BF2 though (if only they would fix the air so it isn't so overpowered ).
I still have an active WoW account but I haven't touched it for about 3 weeks now, I just can't be arsed to log on.....but still too attached to my char to cancel the sub
i think all the game designers are just playing wow and not really putting any effort into their games :P too busy farming bwl and raiding naxx!!!!!!!!
i played wow for about 18 months but stopped as i was playing it far too much :O now im mmorpg-less was gonna start playing eve again, as its the only good other mmo atm but im just playing bf2 . Other than crap the only games im waiting on in the 12 months is warhammer online.... and company of heroes... GET OFF YOU ASSES GAME DESIGNERS TWO DECENT GAMES IN A 1 YEAR PERIOD!!!!! COME ON!!!!
It's nice to see I'm not the only one that thinks there's nothing good to play anymore. I even went back to UO because I loved sailing my ship, gathering herbs, and making stuff for my small marble back in the day.. but man the graphics suck. I wish they'd redo it because they have so much content and I love being able to have a horse, pets, sail my ship across the seas and have a place to come home to. I'm definitely going to check out Age of Conan. I've also been giving EVE a try... it's so boring. The only thing I like is the soothing voice of the ship's computer and the soundtrack. The space scenery is beautiful too but that's about it. Ryzom bores me too. I've tried Hero Online and Silkroad.. bored now. I've also done Shadowbane, Horizons, SWG, EQ2, WoW, and DAOC. *sigh* AOC open up beta already!
UO still does it for me.. I have tried just about everything but they all seem to lack something we look for in MMoRPG. I feel most games lack a sense of community and the ability to create something personal. UO still does this for me even though the graphics are subpar, nothing much beat hanging out at brit bank with your mates, repairing armor by the smithy while smashing out a few hundred plate gorgets to raise your smithing.. and houses.. the ability to create and decorate your own housing, all games should have this.
Other games I'd probably recommend at this time would be Horizons and perhaps A Tale in the Desert.
Played WOW untill my eyes burn, so I got tired of it... I'm really putting a lot of hope in LOTRO, but that game is only out in late 2006 if it is ready by then.

You should try Eve-online.. There is no standard: "kill this and get stronger" system They also have a 10day trial.. Click You should give it a try.. It is worth it
eve doesnt work for me because firstly i tried it and i dont like the combat system, and i dont really interest in sspace ships that look awkward.. and i just think that the whole place is warp warp warp... although its very revolutionary as a game... but its just not my type.
right now i want some gundam type game and ill be fine... the thing is no one is even bothered because everyone wants to make medieval fantasies.. i mean ffs come on you devs, those kind of games are flooding at us and we cant even breathe
The only True Game I remmember and love and always go back to is Shadowbane
I bought and played COV, WOW, EQ2, AO, All those Korean Games And tons more bored me out but i enjoyed playing Shadowbane for some reason it doesnt have quests really its just a go out Kill things build up your character, build a kingdom/shops wage war with other kingdoms take over land and become a god... basically a guild game But sweet as hell

those 2 are THE BEST MMORPGS when it comes to fun factor IMO
i played wow for 4 months gw for about 2 years almost 1 year of ao and like 3 years of diablo
and played cov coh for 28 days and by far
i mean by very very far its the best game i ever played
the only problem is that its a ghost town most of the time (there are only like 2 severs that are populated)
but that game is insanly fun
and if u had gw factions or regualr gw u should have the 14 day free trials there
Just not for you.

If you are into MMORPGs that are kinda traditional, wait for Zera or rohan
if you are looking for action try gunZ, rakion, or Infinity
RTS...? I dunno i don't play any.
