The 600 lb woman and the half ton man.

VercadesVercades Member Posts: 1,065

Was watching TLC run a special on them last night. I've seen it before and, heard all the crazy discussion about it in the media, although back then they didn't handle it correctly. TLC actually gave these people some dignity while revealing the horrid truth that hits pretty close to home.

Richard Simmon's was even on there discussing his crusade to help the obese, he talked about something amazing he's done. One woman was I think 800 lbs overwieght he called here every day for a couple months giving her support during her time of need. He's been made fun of and that's ok but, to say he's actually hurting America is incredibly misinformed.

It was a very enlightening show, some people think it's genetic's that caused them to get this morbidly obese while others believe it's the lack of willpower. Both have very, solid points and, success stories. Which do you think is ideal or, is true to you?

So, have you taken your vitamins today? When was the last time you jogged a couple blocks?

I have no sympathy atall for the obese, in the vast majority of cases it's -NOT- genetic, saying it is is simply an easy way to continue eating like a pig.

There's an interesting program on here soon (in the UK), which discusses whether we should start taxing fat people more. I'm 150% for this idea, they put such an enormous strain on the NHS, yet pay the same as everybody else. Sure, if you do have some genetic disorder, which causes increadible weight gain and health issues, you wouldn't be taxed. However, if your just a fat chunk that is too greedy to say no, then I don't think you should be allowed any medical treatment until you are ready to pay for it.

It all comes down to being weak, and not having ANY will power. the same goes for smokers and drug addicts, no sympathy atall from me, it's all self inflicted.

lol you tard. Yeah tax them but what about those who are say disabled, have thyroid problems, have serious medical problems like hib problems and are unable to  walk etc? Be serious.

Tax fat sure but tax fuckin stupidty and ignorance fiirst. Then maybe tax people who smoke , not just the  cigs but the actual people. Then tax those who drink. Then tax those who drive and crash. All these groups cause MASSIVE strain on the NHS system in the UK.

Oh and lets tax people who dont take their medicine when they get it on repeat prescriptions. According to recent  figures something like £15 BILLION  (pounds for you yanktards) is wasted each year from people getting given drugs for free and yet they never take them.

Lets tax fucktards who make posts on forums! me included :)

Well there is a glandual disorder that is medical fact, that can cause you're body to grow exponentionally, I'm no doctor so I can't say for certain the medical term for it but, I've seen it in many people.

I felt really sorry for the 600 lb woman, she lost it with her gastric bypass surgery and went on a strict diet, she actually became malnurished because her appitite was severely hindered.  Before she went to surgery she wieghed 600 lbs, imagine seeing a woman in her late 40's picking up a 400 lb barbel for 30 seconds, she did something just as equivalent when she left to the hospital.  She wasn't classified as a genetic disorder.

The half ton man, wasn't as inspiring and, was very emotionally apathetic to his wieght his case was written as a genetic disorder, he litterly had his head covered with fatty tissue and no neck at all.  He lost 500 lbs after surgery he had his stomach stapled  When he was cleared to go home he began to go on his crash diet again, people struggle with it and, honestly I believe there are genetic cases in morbid obesity.  It'd be reckless to not think genetics don't play a role in things like this.

From the rather defensive tone of your post, i'm guessing your obese.

If you had read my post entirely, you would have seen that I did say anybody with MEDICAL disorders which cause them to become overweight would of course be exempt from any fat-tax. If, however, you are fat simply because you are greedy (as are the VAST majority of fat people), then i'm afraid it's either a case of diet, or die.

Tell me this, why should a relatively healthy 40 year old man, who has never smoked or drunk, who has never been overweight and has generally lead a healthy life, receive medical treatment AFTER somebody that has done nothing but abuse their body from day 1? Should this man really have to pay, possibly with his life, for the greed and gluttany of another human being?

The NHS is in a serious state at the moment, it's struggling to cope with the ever increasing burden of heart disease and other fat-related illnesses it's currently being flooded with. The NHS NEEDS more money, I quite agree we should tax smokers more heavily, and drinkers, but fat people SHOULDNT get away with it, afterall they are just as addicted to food as smokers are to ciggarettes, and it's nobody elses fault but theirs.

    No sympathy here :)

Tax the supermodels that eat food then vommit it up.. what a waste... and thats why there are people starving in africa. And besides that supermodels make the normal girls unhappy because they think that being 40 pounds is pretty.... then they get sad and depressed and eat to cope with the depression...
So there... Models are the devil

The amount of food we have in our countries isnt' the reason that people in africa are starving. We don't 'steal' food from them on a daily basis :| They're in such dyer straights because of their economy and corrupt leaders.

Supermodels, while odd, don't place such a huge burden upon the NHS, do they? They don't suffer from heart problems etc (unless of course they are rediculously thin), therefore they shouldn't have to pay any extra tax. I'm sure obese people place more of a strain on the NHS than skinny people do. :)

Why do I get the feeling you had the thought of fat bastard when you wrote this out?  Models have a job to be thin and appealing, it's a job.  IF you don't understand that then, I can't help you any further.

To paraphrase a quote from one of my favorite movies....

Get busy dieting or get busy dying.

Seriously. I agree on all parts about the taxation thing Hohbein. No sympathy for what someone has done to themselves. Just like when homeless people come up to you and ask for change or hold up signs... no sympathy. Why? Becasue they did it to themselves. They choose to not get a job, go to one of the million charities that will help them, all in an effort to avoid responsibility live off of someone else.

Most (and I'm not saying all...I'm saying most) giant fat butts (I'm not going to say obese or overweight, that's BS. Say what a thing is...don't sugar coat it..that way people can't hide behind stupid things like big-boned or chunky) choose their path. When they sit down at dinner and choose to eat 10 slices of bread, a whole pizza, a plate of mashed potatoes, 8 legs of chicken, 4 pork chops, and half a chocolate cake all well drinking Yoo-Hoo, I think your asking for that giant butt.

I used to be fat because I ate unhealthy as a kid (YES I!!!!! did it to myself...no blaiming someone or something else). But I CHOOSE to work out, eat less, eat healthier, make sure I don't overdose on sugar or salts. You know, be RESPONSIBLE FOR MYSELF!!!!

Its sad to watch the fat people on tv.... not because they are fat, but because they put themselves there and want you to feel pitty for them so they can feel loved by both people and their precious food.

K, now you can call me a jerk if you want....but that's what I have to say about that.

    reply to kontra.

I feel the same way about overwieght and, obese people.  But, that's no excuse to discriminate morbidly obese people because of their disabilities.

If you applied for a job at a medical center right now, you wouldn't get the job from your original post.  In these situations you have to put aside your own thoughts and feelings, just to help another get back on their feet.  After they're back on their feet, then it's not your problem.

Understanding these things are difficult to say the least.

    two things...

One, I never said anthing about discrimination... your reading into things that aren't there (even between lines)

Second, why do we have to put some back on their feet when they won't try to do it themself. I believe in the 40/60 rule. You give 40 percent and I will give 60 percent to help you... you give 0 percent I give 0 percent. Only if some takes the first steps towards help (ie seeking medical help, dieting, moving around more or any form of excercise they can do) will I help. If someone won't try to help themselves, then anything you do to help will just make them either dependent on you or give them another excuse for failure.

If fat people want to stay fat, that's their choice. It doesn't hurt ME if Jimbob weighs 300 pounds. I'm happy that I'm fairly athletic and can do all kinds of fun outdoor things that, perhaps, Jimbob can't. If he's not happy with his condition, then he'll take steps to change that behavior. There are plenty of programs available for people to lose weight.

American is the fattest nation on the planet. Is Burger King at fault for this? No. Should we ban fast food? No. Should we make participation in healthy activities, like sports, more accessible to the average American? Absolutely.

How would you then decifer who had the health problems and who didn't?  What would be next?  Concentration camps?  Lord knows they need the work out, but that wouldn't make it right.  The 100% effective way to cure obesity would be to stop f-ing eating.  Trust me when I say, no tax will ever stop smokers.  No tax will ever stop drinkers.  No tax will EVER stop people from eating.

If they pay their taxes... they don't strain your government one bit.  The only thing they strain is a scale of any kind.  Nobody says you have to like, talk, or look at fat people.  BUT, they are people!  Taxing them for existing is naive and ignorant to a new distant boundary.  What's next?  You Brits plan on taxing Black folks?  Jewish people?  You know how Hitler became so powerful?  He made people think that other people were the cause of all their problems.  Blaming anything nobody can control on other people that have no control over it as well has never brought about good results.  WW2 comes to mind.  Rowanda comes to mind.

We can agree to disagree, or we can bicker constantly... either way, I'm right.

You're miss informed.  The new BMI system has flaws in it's survey information.  Arnold Swarzaneggar is considered Obese in the new system.  Don't believe the media hype.
