Age isn't a big factor, it can help for conversational skills to have more in common by being a similar age, but i don't find it very restrictive.
there are a lot of people my own age I don't want to play with and many people greatly older or younger that I do. Squeakies on comms are sometimes hard to decypher.
Mostly I am intrested in sense of humor and relaxed/relaxing attitude.
Maturity is a loaded word. The ability to behave immaturley is something highly prized, but emotion maturity, the ability not to take offense or be too judgemental is always a plus.
Im a 36 year old gamer (hell, 37 in December... /shudder) and i can only post to agree with the majority, age is no guarantee of maturity.
During my last stint in EQ2 my 7 year old son saw me playing and said that he would like to try it.
To cut a long story short he was one of the best 'Roleplayers' ive seen for a long time (parental bias, i know, but..). He rolled a fighter which became a guardian, and i explained to him his 'responsibilities' in doing so.
He lapped it up, in potential wipes he would be the last to leave, taunting like crazy and urging his group to run, I very rarely saw him allow a groupmate to die through inaction and would always take on a mob to save any of his party.
Watching him play and group, some observations became apparent. He always told any group he was joining his age. In general 'older players' would /smile and give him a spot, and an hour or so later tell him what a good player he was, and how well he knew his role. The players who came across as younger/teen were just plain rude to him, and many would drop him straight away with no apology or explanation.
So, no, age is no guarantee of maturity, if a 7 year old can play his role, be polite and show some respect, nobody, of any age, has an excuse for the some of the appalling behaviour ive seen in many years of online gaming.

when i was playing wow had a few extremes pld most of my time with a 16 yr old and a 65 yr old (i was 29 at the time) pretty mixed group but we all had the same ideals and that was helping others.
generaly older peeps should be more mature they have the life experience but id say to anyone playing an mmo give everyone a chance let them prove themselves able to act in a mature way regardless of age because you could be missing out on some genuine people who just happen to be younger than ure set age limit, and on the same token u could have just recruited the most selfish ninja going just because he was 30.
judge people for who they are not who u think they are because of age.
