Hey guys

Im looking for a new MMORPG got sick of SWG, so what I want to know is what are your impressions of Lineage? Is it worth playing now? Is it easy to get the hang of things?

What I dont like about it is thats its $15USD a month and the graphics are prety outdated. But I dont judge games entirely its on graphics.

Its either Lineage or back to DAOC.

I can only give you the impressions from the Taiwan beta. I have not had the chance of playing the US beta and I read that NCSoft is changing some things for the North American market.

    1. Very little character custumization. People from the same race look the same.

    2. Not enough quests. There are some very good quests, like the Dark Elves Bloodsaber quest, but they are few and far between.

    3. Lots and lots of leveling. And by lots, I mean lots.

    4. I did not like the controls. There are 2 options: point and click and the arrow keys. I am too used to using W, S, A, D and there wasn't a fuction to reasign the keys. Even while using the arrow keys, you cannot target the enemies, and everytime you click something on the interface, you have to press the arrow keys again. Not that big of a deal, really, just annoying.

Edit: Please note that this is all based on the Taiwan beta. The US beta might be different and since this is a beta, the final product might be different as well.

LOL, I've noticed that you were asking about Lineage, but I'm so used to people asking about Lineage 2 that I gave you my impressions of that game. image

From reading the original post it seems to me as though he was taling about Lineage 1, rather than Lineage 2 which is currently in beta. As for Lineage i beta tested this myself a few years ago, I can't speak for the state of the game at the moment however back then it was a fun game and yes it was easy to learn.

The reason why I am asking about Lineage 1 is because I just want to play a game for a few months untill Lineage 2 comes out. I applies for the Lineage 2 beta but i doubt I will get in hehe. Does anyone know if alot of people play Lineage? because I hate hunting alone and I usually end up hunting alone in games where not much people are in because I live in Australia and when Im awake the Americans are asleep. image

According to their official website "Currently there are more than four million active subscribers worldwide playing Lineage." Just depends on how you define alot of people.

4 Million according to that source, theres anyone official website of NCsoft that estimates it to be 3.2 Million (i think it's 3.2 i should know these not i've quoted them a few times image) As for content, i'm not too sure, i never got to the high end side of the game but i know they have released some expansions.

Lineage's content is based on episodic release....

Note Lineage 2 is already released in S. Korea but there are still more people playing 1 than 2 because Lineage is still updating its contents and a lot of people still have "asset" in 1.

    S. Korea is probably the only market in the world, at least in my view where MMORPG / RTSG developers can experiment and test extensively the high-end content of their game.

Note that Starcraft, CS, Lineage, Rainbow 6 is still most widely played games in this country.

For just playing a month or two, try AC or AC2. I think AC2 even has a free month trial download option. The graphics are nice and a good break from EQ. If you feel lucky and got the $ to spare there are always accounts for sale on ebay for those suspended from their game or just burn out on them wanting to recover sometimes years worth of monthly subscriptions invested. You should realize many have $400 to over $800 invested in their subscriptions in a single game, much less MAC (multible account characters [ebay.])
For a cheap game that is good for about a month's worth of gameplay, Earth and Beyond is a good spacer type game. After the free month by the 1st payed subscription most all the content is gone! That is why EA only guarentees the game for 90 days.

I've played lineage for about 5 years on and off. Its kinda of hit-miss game. You love it, or you'll hate it. As for group hunting, not in this game. It happens, but mostly just among close friends, in the hardest areas of the game. Im most cases its much easier (altho more expensive) to level solo.

There are no lvl caps, and items have no power limit, but both get extremely hard to take past certian points, with the items have a large chance to explode. So there is always someone stronger then you are.

They usally are very good on class balance, with classes being good at one thing, but not so great at others:

Elf: there are 2 main kinds of elf, and a few variations.

A con elf will usally use a bow until 48, when they get the spell "enchant strength" then they will use a  sword, or a bow, as they have high hp's and are average at both.

A Dex elf has much less hp, but is very powerful with a bow/crossbow.

Knight is pretty strait forward, you use weapons to bash things. There are 3 kinds of knights 20 str 14 con severe lack of hp for a fighter, very few take this path. 18 str 16 con is a balanced knight, with average hit points. And 16 str 18 con is the best imho, lots of hp's and still good damage.

Prince is a class you should avoid if you are new, they are weak fighters, have only lvl 2 standerd magic, but they are the leaders of blood pledges, and can take control of castles to tax the land.

Mages are the the main magic users of the land. Threre are many variations of there stats, too many to list here. Depending on what you want to do, they can do huge damage, or they can very hard areas solo for a long time.

Dark Elves are the best class in solo PVP, but not so great in group pvp. They hit hard, fast, have the quickest movment speed. And have a whole line of spells to combat single enemys.

If you choose to play lineage, i would recommend that Lands of Aden server. The other servers and Korean mirrors. The Lands of Aden server has many changes that players in America wanted.
