Graphics are important Gameplay keeps you playing and lets you enjoy the game Graphics are what puts the wonder in a game
I remember when I was younger on my nes and snes when I got a new rpg I would want to see all the new spell effects and a special abilities, why? Simply so I see what they looked like.
Did this make or break the game? Usually not, but it definitely had a effect.
Graphics that interfere with gameplay are extremely important, the overall scenery graphics although important in order to bring you the feeling of the world can be less realistic if need be.
The way your avatar moves is extremely more important then the way it looks, it is much much much better to have smooth relistic movement then awsome looks, and WoW proves that beyond doubt as the avatars are quite bad graphic wise, the movements are superb from special styles to emotes jumping etc. etc. as long as you have this the actuall quality of the graphics become less and less important.
Obviously though there is a bottom line at how bad your graphics can be, and 2D graphics really dont cut it in todays world.
The thing is a game can have great graphics AND have great gameplay and it's just all together that much better.
Games don't HAVE to sacrifice graphics for gameplay. Since most mmorpg and video company teams have art teams, and content teams, and other such teams for different tasks. You don't take this same 5 guys and go what should we do today? design the new armor? or make the new quests.
To me when a new game comes out with lackluster/bad/old graphics what it says to me, is that they weren't willing to spend enough money to hire a decent art team, or they just didn't care enough to. Either way that is just one of the many signs of a bad game. If they didn't care enough to do good graphics then why should i trust them to care about other stuff? And if they couldn't afford a decent art team, then obviously they aren't well financed for other aspects of the game, and they are probably going to suffer from it too.
It's been proven, you can have Decent-great graphics, without sacrificing your style. Saying "oh wow graphics are bad because its their style" is complete and total garbage. They could have EASILY maintained the same styles, without making everything so blocky. and the flat textures such as hairs/bushes so poor.
I believe graphics are important in a game, especially in an MMO.
Part of the fun for me is exploring the worlds that the Devs have created for us. Take Eve-Online for example, i wouldn't find it half as fun flying around solar systems if the planets, dust and stars didnt look so real.
Also good graphics help you enter a world in your own mind as it looks more realisitc and roleplaying can be much more enjoyable.

What im looking for in a game is atleast 70% community 20% gameplay 10% graphics.
i don't thinm that graphics r that important in ur enjoyment of an mmorpg especially
for instance i love runescape even though it has crummy graphics so it doesn't bother me(although better graphics would be very nice)
i wish i had a rabbit
