How long is wows lifeline?

harrisondharrisond Member Posts: 60
hey every one i have been playing wow for a while now and seeing all the new MMOs coming out am starting the question how long will wow live on?  lots of reason for this from ingame chat to forums on the website.  all i hear about is how bad customer services is, how bots are ruining the game, goldfarmers inflating the ingame market, plain just tired of grinding characters to 60.  My self, i questiong blizz, they take for ever on in game tickets, i believe the boting problem is outta there hands, and they  never give a ligit anwser to there players, there GM-player communication is terrible.  I get the feeling players are only playing cause theres not much competition but there just sticking around till the next hot new game comes out, personally am waiting on LOTRO, im sick of getting to 40 and grinding with guildies to get to 60.  just wanted to hear what you all think.

• WoW will live on for a long long time.  But I persoanlly think WoW will take a very large hit in western markets within the next year or two since the expansion will not address the current problem a large majority of people have with game content. However this all depends all release dates of various other games and the BC expansion.

I also agree with you that they are awful at their community relations.  And I mean very awful.  All MMO etc run into problems with this and tend to make the mistake of not realizing that running an MMO is like running a political campaign/administration.  But Blizzard has been especially bad and with the current hot button issues of PVP and raider vs non-raider they have really handled this terribly.  They say nothing, delete posts, insult people.  I mean absolutely nothing productive or ameliorating.  Just, "yeah we heard what you are saying oh and hear is sticky Post with tons of images about the new tier 3".    And then they tell people that they are trolling when the pure diregard is stuck it in theirr face.  Wow, I mean just wow how clueless can you be.   When you see the lead designer post reapeatedly on the Raid & Dungeon forums and then you compare the treatment of the vast numbers of people concerned about non-raid content and PvP well suffice it to say its just awful.

But in the end it doesn't matter.  If they keep the 25% of the population they do cater to then they still have alot of subsribers.  I mean I dunno if they could keep their current staff and servers numbers etc.  But the hardware is sunk costs and they can always downsize some or whatever.

Since 2/3 of WoW current population numbers come from China and Blizzard gets considerably less money from China due to the way it is licensed to a separate company and different pricing schemes,  such a loss may have a dramatic effect.  However I suspect WoW will continue to grow in China for quite some time so that may offset things.

Either way they have made alot of money and should be able to keep a large enough fraction to maintain for quite some time, unless some just completely amazing game comes out.  The investment and social aspect of MMO tend to keep a certain fraction of the population tied down for a long period of time.

I quit in december and canceled in january I don't intend on coming back.  I read the forums and the current trends there are very sad and siturbing to me.  But WoW will continue to have alot of subscribers for some time to come.  And frankly alot of people will simply bend over and take it.  Its sad but that is the way of the world.

hey every one i have been playing wow for a while now and seeing all the new MMOs coming out am starting the question how long will wow live on?

Well, considering their player base has grown steadily since it was released, and its still continuing to grow, I think it'll be a long long time before server population becomes an issue.

lots of reason for this from ingame chat to forums on the website.  all i hear about is how bad customer services is

Personally I've never had to use customer service so I can't talk about how good or bad it is.  But I think the fact that I've never had to use it speaks for itself.

how bots are ruining the game

I've never seen a bot in WoW.

goldfarmers inflating the ingame market

Maybe so, but that also plays to your advantage.  Whats the point of farming <insert item here> if it only sells for a few silver.  Now if that same item sells for several gold...well then you have a good way to make money.

plain just tired of grinding characters to 60.

LOL.  Getting to 60 in WoW is very easy and relativly quick compared to every other MMO I've played.

My self, i questiong blizz, they take for ever on in game tickets

I play a lot, and I've never had a need to open a ticket, so again I can't honestly comment.

i believe the boting problem is outta there hands

Probably so, I guess that explains why I've never seen a bot.

and they  never give a ligit anwser to there players, there GM-player communication is terrible.

I wouldn't say never, but every MMO I've ever played has shared similiar problems.  It seems everybody wants the personal attention of a Blizzard employee.

I get the feeling players are only playing cause theres not much competition but there just sticking around till the next hot new game comes out

You're probably right.  Oh wait, WoW has been out for quite some time now, other big MMOs have come...and gone...WoW is doing better than ever.  Go figure.

personally am waiting on LOTRO

So maybe you should be fanboi'ing in the LOTRO forums?

im sick of getting to 40 and grinding with guildies to get to 60.

Again, WoW is far from a grind.  It does slow down a lil bit after 40, but compared to other MMOs WoW isn't a grind.

just wanted to hear what you all think.

I think you should go to the LOTRO forums.

• harrisondharrisond Member Posts: 60

Lol, was a crafty reply, nicely layed but, still go to customer service forums on the website and you'll only begin see what am talking about, or take your character go wintersprings for example and you'll be sure to see a bot or 5!  dont get me wrong i enjoy the game play my points more strong on the service and bots...but i enjoyed reading your response regardless.

ps if youve never seen a bot....come on get real, you just dont know how to identify, how do you think all them epics get on the AH.

Erm, I'm not real big on the botting/gold-farming issue.  I just don't really care.  But come on, they are quite common and easy to find on just about any server.

I'd be willing to bet you have seen one, you just didn't recognize it as what it was.

Well I personally think WoW has maybe 2-3 more years of life in it as the monster MMORPG in it now unless they address the issued of the game being a raiders paradise. If they don't then with all of the new western games coming out I think your gonna see a large chunk of the WoW players base vanish there are a lot of promising new games coming out which is what makes me think this will occur.

• DabbleDabble Member Posts: 1,043

LOTRO does not look at all promising to me.

from what i can tell, it's pve only.

Now Age of Conan is one to look for.

To the poster that there have been some big things that came out already, not reall.  Auto Assault was the only credible challenge.

WOW will end when Blizzard gets tired of hauling the loot to the bank.
• RhoneRhone Member Posts: 3
It is simply the best mmorpg and its gonna stay a very long time
i don't see any other game get 6M gamers paying :)

• Fenrir767Fenrir767 Member Posts: 595
Just because its the most popular doesn't mean its the best.

• RhoneRhone Member Posts: 3
indeed,you're completely right
but i play guild wars and d&d too and stopped with it
i think wow is the most complete game to play

WoW will prolly not die anytime soon but its already seen a huge decrease in NA players.Yes they have over 6 mil. subscribers but over 4 mil of that is from china alone. If they dont change alot with the game before those other mmorpgs come out over the next 2 years i dont think WoW will be  a powerhouse mmorpg in NA  any longer and i think Blizzard will lose alot of future subscribers on other games because of how they ran WoW.

Guild wars and D&D are unfinished and released way to early but both good games and over time will be good once they get some content and there are afew others coming out in next couple years that look promising as well.

Costumer service is terrible.

Farmers/Bots are terrible(they are going to be in any mmorpg you play but blizzard is doing nothing to keep there #'s down)

the lvl 60 game is terrible with only raids and grinds to do

pvp system sucks

as slow as they have been with patches recently it would be cheaper for players to spend $30 every 3-4 months for an expansion instead of monthy fees/or lower monthly fees.

I hope it lives forever, that way none of the populace can blight any other game.

Wrong! Most of the player base in located in N. America...

Guild Wars is ok..but I prefere the WoW BG's....DnD sucks arse....It won't last too much longer...no content (cant say that about WoW).  Forced Grouping Throughout the whole game....it's total crap on a plate...Fanboi's dig in.

Costumer service is terrible.

I call B.S.....They handled my situation very, very fast.

Farmers/Bots are terrible(they are going to be in any mmorpg you play but blizzard is doing nothing to keep there #'s down)

Yeah, they are doing nothing...except banning 10k accounts for farming.

the lvl 60 game is terrible with only raids and grinds to do

Name another game with better things to do at the highest level??? Can't?  Thats what I thought.

pvp system sucks

Name a better PvP system out there.  Can't? Thats what I thougt.

Ok...bye now...
If SWG has not died now...then I think I will be willing my account over to my children when I die.

I was a subscriber once... had a 60 toon.

even though Im not a WoW player right now. when I look at some games thats coming out, I dont see much of them that will kill WoW.

no offence, but there are going to be good MMO's coming out but it wont kill WoW unless blizzard makes a great mistake on it.

my oppinion is maybe LOTRO, and Warhammer has a potential but never under estimate blizzard.

as I hated WoW when it's so restricted on those who is in a good guild. ( those who's not dont have much opprtunities to do anything ingame. raids, PvP, and etc)

right now its been 6~7month I stopped playing. as much as I didnt like the game while I was playing many times I get temtped to play again... even though I know its gonna be hard to find a good guild, and maybe Ill play for a week and quit again.

many other Game companis should try out different types of genres of MMO's, and if WoW wants to servive many many years. then they should never under estimate other games as well.

well its evident that your a HUGE wow fan...but come back to earth, read the offical forums on there site...complaint after complaint, this patch has been advertised for dam near three months it retarded, and they didnt ban 10k account the suspended and banned 5k...get your facts right.  and the question here isnt if wow the best theres other forrums for that it was simply asking with all the new games that have promise due out...how is wow gonna hold on to its customers with all the probs they have.

obviously i dont see you going anywhere buddy.

i m missing the option: lost interest once realising the endgame is a clone of EQs raiding game - light, with little spice of DAoC gear based PvP post ToA, as if that ever worked well heh.

or more to the point, i m missing the option :

"already lost interest/no interest left" that should be available in an unbiased poll

as to what game will kill WoW? WoW already killed itself in my humble opinion just like Everquest did.
just a matter of time till "the next big thing(s)" come(s) out whatever it is and it will be reduced to a shadow of it s former self, still there, but declining like EQ is nowadays. with such a high subscriber base, naturally it will take a while, but it s inevitable after copying the core "endgame" gamemechanics from EQ heh.

maybe i m wrong and they ll get it back on track......... but i doubt it.

going by  their marketing and promises prerelease something like the raidcentric endgame and the stupidity of the "PvP Honor System" should never have happened in the first place.
Name a better PvP system out there.  Can't? Thats what I thougt.
DAoC pre ToA for overall PvP.
Guildwars for a lesson in PvP balance.
Shadowbane/Linage II for a lesson in hardcore PvP.
UO for a lesson of FFA PvP.

WoW has a decent early game while leveling up from 1-60, very polished and quite enjoyable, much more enjoyable than a lot of other games actually, if maybe a bit too easy. the endgame and PvP however are abysmal.

honestly, ever single game i know that has PvP at all  is superior to the abomination that is called  "WoW s honor system." Can you show me a single Rank 14 player that says the system is actually fun and challenging? thought not.

Actually its people would like to believe there is no other mmorpg out there worth playing.

Before i left WoW i was amazed how ill informed many players were.I recall quite a few guild members there claiming they tried so and so game and it was crap. Each time they touched on another mmorpg i myself have played before i could easily see classic mistakes they make which showed they not even seen the cover of the game before.

But to each his own i guess.

WoW will live a long time because most will never try anything new and stick around but hey whatever makes them happy .

It's surreal how playing a game so long you get feelings of dejavu at times.

New? Pfft, many other games are written on the same source code or, buy the copyright to the source code and, just use different trademarks. WoW even does it. The gaming industry has been like that for ages.

ZOMG a Big Boy restuarant opened up in my town, AMGZ a Mc Donald's opened up in my town. Same difference.

I can't speak for all servers, but on my Alliance server there are at least 10 alliance raiding guilds, some better than others.  I'm definitally not in one of the top guilds, but we raid MC 3 times a week.  On my Horde server there are 13 raiding guilds and 16 alliance raid guilds.  Its true that its not easy to get into a raiding guild in every situation, but people do quit playing or get stuck with limited play time due to RL obligations, others decide to switch servers or switch classes...point being that positions do open up.  It may not be easy, but it is possible to get into a raid guild.
