And while it's gotten off to a slow start and will not appeal to the masses I am confident it's going to become something special after the next two modules (one in july and another in august). And just for reference I quit the following games either in their beta's or after 3 to 6 weeks: EQ2, COH, GW,WoW,EVE. I hate to group EvE in with the rest but it's kind of like DDO and will appeal to a niche crowd.

I hated DD0 in beta, does that make it balanced?

Yeah it's a niche game unfortunately they used the D&D name to sucker a lot of people into thinking it was actually going to be like D&D. Large, expansive and fun.

The "niche" players have a very low bar of quality and even more so if they played D&D. Even the older MMOs like EQ1 have a better feel for a game than this mess. If you actually LIKE DD0, check out Baulders Gate, your head will explode.

Personally I still play NWN more than I play DDO :)  DDO just doesn't have enough to it for me to really and truely enjoy it.  I can see that Turbine tried hard to get the AD&D mechanics right.  It's a shame that they appear to be beginning to toss them out the window now to conform the the MMO "norm".

DDO was an interesting concept.  Turbine just needed more content and more variety.  The mechanics were actually kind of nice (even though I still hate the semi-FPS crap).  Now they're making very strange changes to the game and I honestly don't understand why.

Isn't the Harbor the easiest place to find a group though? When I was in beta it was sickly over-populated. It was once you broke into the city that things got thinner...

Not really... harbor isn't hard to find groups but neither is market.  During peak time anyway.  During anything but peak time it's tricky to get a group anywhere... servers are pretty empty... even at peak it feels kinda sparse sometimes.

During off-peak time you spend a lot of time solo... which sucks in this game worse than any other.  As far as I can tell the server pops are in free fall.  I started doing the free trial thing over a month ago now, and am currently on day 14 of a 30 day period on box that was given to me..... so 40+ days... in that time I've noticed a significant drop in # of players.  My friends list has gone from almost everyone online to almost nobody online.  And I do update it regularly.  People re-roll all the time but even that doesn't explain how fast people are vanishing from my friend's list.

Feels like a game in free-fall to be honest.  I could be wrong, I hope for the sake of those who are paying to play it that I'm wrong... but it feels very vacant other than peak time.  And even then it's not exactly crowded.  Turbine needs to do something about server pops... if they don't people will only leave faster because they can't find groups.  Solo content sucks, to be honest, so no relief there either.
