Use Engine Mode: 1

anarchyartanarchyart Member Posts: 5,378

Please don't post in here and flame me. I'm Just reposting this in case there is anyone that is trying the game that this information might help.

After todays patch, it was wierd. None of my characters could get any exp and mobs were insanely tuff so I created a new character. Also, I changed the engine mode from 6 to 1. I made a half Troll and you wouldn't believe it, no more lag! Of course, there weren't many players near me and the Half Troll town isn't as heavy duty as some of the other beginning towns, but I just played for a couple hours with no lag and got to see a glimpse of what the game could have been or maybe even could be and it's pretty sweet.

Have to add that it took me like 2 hours to find level 1 mobs and I never did find any, i just finally found a level 6 who was willing to help me get to level 2 where magically I don't die nearly as fast as I did at level 1.

Definitely if you're going to play this game, use engine mode 1 and you can turn up all the other graphics to full and it looks really nice and there is much less lag and in fact I was playing mostly with no lag at all. It should still be in beta though so don't pay unless you wanna pay to beta test a game with lots of serious UO type potential.

While I was searching for mobs I found a balloon that wasn't bugged lol and must say the balloon ride is pretty kewl.

I took this balloon on the left,

To this one in the center.

    /bump

If you do want to have a crack at this game, start as a Half Troll Light and as I said above, Engine Mode 1 on the Login screen. I played all night with no lag. Also, I almost forgot, if you have an ATI card, get catalyst 6.3 or earlier. You can find it easy with google. The half troll starting area seems to be the most solid and lag free and there's a couple balloons that might not even be bugged if you go during the right time of day.Turn all the graphics up high, as long as you're on engine mode 1 it won't be so bad, although I have 2 gigs of ram. It really looks nice.

This guys armor looked seriouisly nice, paint jpeg won't do it justice, but it's real shiny and the nice pattern on it makes it look really metallic. In person it looks superb and not crappy like here lol

disclaimer: I am not recommending this game so don't flame me. It is broken and buggy and lots of stuff doesn't work I just happen to dig it for some reason. Reminds me of UO.

Isn't engine 1 CPU intensive, and engine 6 GPU intensive?

So if my graphics card is a good one wouldnt I be better off going toward engine 6?

I havent actually been able to find anywhere an explanation for the various engines - I just assumed engine 1 would put least strain on my pc but give worse graphics - whilst going up the scale would gradually increase performance whilst adding strain.

You will regret it. I'm not trying to hate but read around a little. Not just on this site on many others and try to sort through the unreasonably good and the unreasonably bad. Don't just go out and spend money on this game, do a little research.

lol that made me laugh out loud, thanks. :)

For blacsac, I'm not sure what the engine modes mean. All I know is on 6 it was laggy and beautiful, on 1 it's still beautiful but the distant land isn't as highly detailed and theres NO LAG! I actually played for a good 5 hours last night, got to level 7 and got to experience what they were going for. It's nice!

Now they just need to fix the...everything.

MY graphics card is a Radeon x800 pro and my GPU is a crappy Athlon 1.93 ghz. On 1 the game actually works great, on 6 it's pure alpha.

You'll like it Highplains, it's very sandbox and you can change your skills at any time. You need some serious patience though to get it dialed in right. Also almost everything doesn't work right now. Refer to this thread if you have an ATI card.

DnL devs: Fix the friggin balloons, Invert Mouse and fix the lag on high engine modes and you might have yourself a job next year.

Hey I hear you Val. I almost didn't even buy the game because there are just SO many warning posts. If you do happen to get the game I made this thread so people can sort of get it to play and have a look at what the game is AND can be.

Once I got the game working, it's actually really kewl and unique. So many people just won't be able to though. I have a pretty decent rig and had to change the engine mode to 1 to get it to work. However, everything else is turned up to max and while some things still look unfinished (most things really), some of the game will leave you stunned and breathless.

If you don't have 2 gigs of ram and a 256mb graphics card, save yourself the trouble. Just don't even bother.

But Farlan did harm me in a RL sort of way, thats 60 bucks I could have spent on hookers and booze. Alas now I never will.

I have 2 gb ram and a 256mb Video Card.
I also just purchased a laptop that has the latest and greatest in it and it still looks and plays like crap.
Click on the link to view "The Precious ..."

So in my humble opinion, its not about the players PC Specs.
There are other players out there that has played this game in the best rig setup possible and still it has issues and graphics are sub-par.

Not even a PC named HAL can run this game perfect and make its graphics better.

K, if you're really interested in seeing what the game can be follow my tips.

When first logging in, set Engine Mode to 1. Get in the game and create a Half Troll Light. The reason I say Half Troll is because I had the least buggy experience there. In game, feel free to set everything to full graphics (high) and turn on 4x AA.

Doing this you should be able to play the game with NO lag and it still looks really nice. Now they just have to fix the balloons and Invert Mouse and the quests and and and

Oh your just lucky we're in the DnL section using DnL spell casting rules. If we were in a well thought out game's forum you would have gotten it. AHHHHH leaf brushed my arm!

K well gameplay is pretty basic MMORPG stuff, like WoW or EQ. Tab for nearest target, hit ranged attack, mob gets on you, switch to melee, bash him till he's dead. There are 4 skill schools : Fighter, Hunter, Healer and Mage. You can change your skills at any time which I love!

When you pick a skill tree, you are awarded 2 special skills for it. When you pick fighter you get a taunt and an overcharge attack. Hunter gets Regen and an overpower attack. Healer gets Heal and a Divine nuke. Mage gets Fireball dot and Life steal type spells. Eventually you will have all 4 skills plus one of them up to the second tier, that's as far as I've gotten.

Quests are sparse, some n00by towns have only one, some have as many as 4. Many of them are broken. All of them are hard to complete as they don't hold your hand like in WoW. Crafting seems pretty deep although I haven't gotten into it. You can do quartering on mobs to get various trade resources from it and theres mining and blacksmity. Haven't done much but it seems well thought out.

I wouldn't recommend buying this game unless you are willing to pay to beta test. I happen to like the game so far and am going to keep playing.

If they don't fix invert mouse within 5 days, as I have said in many posts, I'm getting a refund.

I did all that last time I played a Half-troll.
Rerolled to a Dark-elf because the Half-Troll area is very unpopulated.
I also did that /enginesetquality high as well (or was it /setenginequality high, I forgot).

The whole time I was in-game it made me feel like I was playing Irth Online or something.
(Yes I actually did Beta Test Irth Online also.)
This is also as bad as RYL.

I had more fun Beta Testing Saga of Ryzom than I have ever had in my time with D&L.
Hell, I even enjoyed the crafting in SoR compared to what D&L has, just about anything is better than D&L!

    The whole problem is this.
D&L could have been decent if today is the year 1999 and NOT 2006.
    There are different standards now.
I feel like I traveled back in time when I try D&L.

Would you buy a brand new car today, lets say a Toyota Corolla, that has been made in 1999 for the full price as if it is the 2006 model?
    Of course not.
I want the damn A/C, Power Locks/Windows, CD Player, Leather Interior that was promised to me for a BRAND NEW CAR not some crap that belongs in the Used Car section that are missing all the features I paid for!

    BTW.
I am a Pioneer Account Refundee that can still login to D&L

And I do agree that this game is currently a Pay-To-Beta.
Calling it a Beta is actually giving it props as ther are much better Beta's out there than this.
    It should be a Pay-to-Alpha.

And if you want ANY enjoyment whatsoever DON'T make a spellcaster, or you'll be back here making offhand comments to Anarchyart with me.

AHHH Don't look at me that way, you're interrupting my spell casting!

    LOL.
    I agree on that.
1st Character I made bfore deleting him was a caster.

OMG, how can you level a caster in that game by acting like a ... caster?

No, it was even explained on the official forums in (one of ) the threads where that was posted:
1: Lowest settings aka low graphics.
    6: Highest settings, "extreme" graphics.

Anything between are different kind of settings.

Nooo not that. On the same screen where you put in your password now there's an Engine Quality setting that you can set between 1 and 6. Put it on 1, but when you get in game you can set the graphics all the way up with 4xAA. The engine setting lowers the detail in the far terrain, something you don't really even need when just playing on foot.

If you think the graphics look dated, then you're really doing something wrong or else you haven't played in a while or else you're not being truthful. The graphics on MY system with engine setting 1 but all the bells and whistles turned up looks VERY nice, with nice use of fog and lighting in particular. Makes WoW look like 1999 if you ask me but what do I know I've only been playing video games since they came out.

Disclaimer: I am not recommending this game unless you want to pay to test beta. It reminds me greatly of UO in many ways, that's why I'm still playing. It's very very unfinished.

    Edited for obvious mistake
