OK well after months of looking at this I think I will give it a shot,

could someone please give me a very brief explanation of how the free trial works

which is better download the client or seek a boxed version

    Well yes, there are many threads that handle this quite well. But anyway. Download the free trial from the official website www.eve-online.com and there are official 2 week trials there. Plus, if you got to the forums and snoop around you can find some highly detailed trial account go aheads. The box is out dated and should not actually be able to be used. CCp changed companies something like 2 years ago. Plus the official site has one hella big banner about the trial too.
