CPU overheat

(copy from my post on the official boards)

As seen in this >>post<<
DnL seems to be causing CPU overheats which would explain some of the crashes some players experience.

Here's the translation of the post:

It's now hot outside, so I've reinstalled my CPU heat controller software. Doing so I've discovered that DnL, makes my CPU temperature rocket up to more than 90? (194 Farenheit). When I enter the game my CPU fan becomes crazy and starts turning at max speed,  a thing that's never happened before when I was playing EQ2, WoW, or Oblivion (it used to vary between 60 and 65C).
This could explain all the crashes and freezes that happen while playing.

My advice: watch your CPUs closely

Has anyone else noticed such an out of the ordinary increase of the CPU temperature?

Such an increase, I think, might damage your CPU in the long run.

getting better and better, well there isnt much risk, since little to nobody will play it more than a couple of hours at all...

If someone is having CPU overheat issues, it's more likely poor design.

One of my hobbies is 3d graphics. When I render an image, my cpu goes to 100% utilization for however long it takes to render... sometimes as long as 12-14 hours straight. This is an Athlon XP 2600+ Barton core that is overclocked to 2.12 GHz and it never overheats.

Might want to upgrade your CPU cooling system if yours is...

    Poor game design indeed.
The reason of DnL's bad performances is that it asks a lot from the CPU when it comes to rendering the terrain. Most of the rendering goes through the CPU, not the GPU, hence the poor frame rate etc...
So, DnL causes the CPU to overheat, which in turns causes DnL to crash/freeze/reboot your computer.

Sounds like you own an Intel CPU, I had one of those way back when. I changed over to an AMD athlon 64 3000+ venice core, 1.8ghz. I start up my comp and it shows my CPU temp at about 36C-38C after running all day and playing video games the hottest I have ever seen my CPU is 42C. So my average range is 96F-108F.

Also thats with the stock CPU fan, hmm now that I think about it maybe I will upgrade that now.

P.S. I never thought about running DnL(it smells funny) on my comp so what I said my not mean jack.
