The community is dying. Alot of people post and say how dead it is. I talk to friends who might log in for a bit and they say the same thing. Gameplay has been dumbed-down. If you like games that are easy, simple and doesn't take much brains to play then this might be your game. And I hear there are alot of bugs. There are aloto fquests to do, that's if they are not bugged. If so, you can send a ticket in-game to a customer rep and they might have an answer for you, then again, they may not.

I suggest you read the forums on multiple web sites and judge for yourself before investing any money on this game. My opinion, the game was great at one time but I personally think it blows now.

The community is in constant disaray, chaos and disagreement are everybodys friend and foe.

Quest are there...until around level 40. They you are on your own for the next 50 levels.

Combat is labeled by many as an "FPS" ( First Person Shooter) style. I dont label it anything, I just think it sucks.

Im a lifelong StarWars fan as well, and I played this game from beta until the CU hit, and even being that long of a fan couldnt keep me in this mud pit of a game. You can always download the trial, although I hear it dosent tell you much of anything.

If you have never played SWG before then yes you may enjoy the game and find it worth playing, I know of Hundereds of persons who have never played SWG before and have started playing and enjoy it very much. But I also know hundereds of others that have been playing the game since day one, and they do not like the changes. As far as content goes for the most part there is content until around levels 40 to 50, from there you will get more content in the expansions packs that will take you higher and adress your needs. If you are online please feel free to look me up and me mates as well.

Damn byotch dat aint no friggn moon fool, dat be a friggn space station byotch.

    It's not worth playing.

Through all the changes, the completely skewed picture of the SW universe, and overall (unusually) poor quality it'll more likely than not tarnish your image of SW.

I say unusally poor, because much of SW merchandise isn't renowed for technical excellence (there are exceptions), but SWG is notably and notoriously poor in this respect.

Community is rather resentful of overall management.
Quests, with exception of a few final ones, which are KOTOR rip-offs, have little to do with star wars, they only revolve around killing.
Combat is probably one of most simplistic ones of all MMOs out there, not to mention other 3D FPS games, and is generally referred to as whack-a-mole.
Star Wars references are essentially limited to scenery.

If you're coming with BF2, KOTOR or x-wing/tie fighter/XWA background, steer clear.

If not, and you don't spend much time in games overall, you might find some enjoyment.

99% of the posters on this board arent playing the game, so id say this is the wrong place to ask but as far as FACTS go.

There are more quests now then ever, the community is more mature now then ever and the combat actually requires some skill and interaction nowadays.

Go download the trial and try it out buddy, im positive youll like it.

Best bet is to try the trial and judge for yourself. There are alot of angry and bitter players here as well as hardcore fans that would tell you it was the greatest thing on earth since slice bread.

The only thing I will disagree on wholeheartedly is the  community is DEFINITELY NOT more mature than it ever was. SWG was redesigned to the current NGE to bring in a younger age group and that is what the most certainly got.

I have to agree with some others here ...

Dl the 10-day thing and give it a go ... just realize the 10 day wont let you go off the space station and withuot question its the best part of the game so if the station is REALLY fun for you , you might like the rest. If the station seems like crap to you the rest of the game only gets worse.

Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups.

On my server it has definitely taken a nose dive. There is alot more fighting/dueling than I have ever seen on here but the general attitude and mindset being portrayed out in the general populace is of a much younger crowd.

Older doesn't mean more mature, take a look at some of the people that have posted here (and they're in support of pre-cu)

Once again, it's NOT WORTH playing.

    Why?

Was it worth getting a Jedi?
    Was it worth pre-ordering JTL?
Was it worth getting that full mando suits?
Was it worth buying starter kit for ITV?
    ....

MMOs are intended for achievement. Through time, you earn rewards, have the option of using and displaying them.

In SWG, every 6 months, all achievements are wiped, and rubbed under other people's noses. One of things that defines MMOs, is that people take breaks, come back, and experience the new content. In SWG, coming back is inevitably a disaster. At very best, your best equipment will have changed. Usually, the entire combat model is changed.

SOE has by now made it provably obvious, that they change the combat system completely every 6 months. In 6 months, everything you've worked for will be rendered useless (look at SWG complete). Stuff you had to pay for will be given away for free, rewards you've worked for will be redundant. Expect to lose everything every 6 months, after which, you will need to relearn the game, but not in a good way, but mostly how to deal with complete rebalance of world. And not for the better. Just different view to an already broken fundation.

The question wasn't whether this game is good or not. Only OP can decide about that.

But in answer to whether it's WORTH playing SWG as MMO? The answer is a big NO. As MMOs goes, it's the most unrewarding and frustrating experiences you will ever find. KOTOR and BF2 are considerably better alternatives in more than one aspect, since they are WORTH playing.

For the record, I am currently subscribed.

I never said older meant mature I stated that the NGE was designed for a younger crowd and that is what has come in, and yes, in my opinion, from what I have seen on my server, a less mature crowd. Again, this is not going to be the same story on every server.

Also, I could easily point to a few NGE fans that definitely not acting their age on here and other forums.

You would really have to Download the trial and get and idea if it is the type of game you would like. I myself find the game fun, playing WOW and EQ2 I find this game still very much enjoyable. There are a set number of professions to pick from like most other MMO. There are a few new and possible exciting new additions coming to the game over the next couple of chapters that are coming out over the next couple of months, one being the expertise system that will give a lot of diversity between each profession and also diversity amoung the profession you are playing. There is good content in the game, there are some nice story lines that are in the game, the combat is not like most other MMO, it is fast although they have slowed it down now and it is more fun then what it was, it was way too fast but now it is a lot better, however if you do like the type of combat were you click and wait 20 mins, this is still not going to be the type of combat you like. For myself I like it very much. But for yourself your best bet would be to Down Load and give it a try, that is the only way you can really tell. All you have on here is just a persons opion and that is not always what your own feelings are. Download is your friend.

Some say it's become less or more mature, but from my observations I'd disagree. I'd say the community has become less helpfull and alot more sparse, finding someone to help you out is very difficult compared to when I was a noob. There always was someone to take you under their wing and show you the ropes, but now there just isn't a large enough playerbase.

Well there never were that many "quests" when I played (pre-cu) but apparently there are plenty now from my observations.

    Star Wars Battlefront Beta Online.

Is this game worth playing? Perhaps.

Is this game worth paying money to play? Certainly not in my opinion.

I was a Star Wars fan since I was a kid many moons ago, but I expect a decent product especially after 3 years of it being live. Sadly SWG isn't even close to being finished and it doesn't look like it will be this year at the very least. Try the trial but be warned the trial doesn't let you leave the station and enter the "real" game world of SWG. I'd say avoid it like the plague but you'll have to make up your own mind, maybe buy the starter kit cheap of Amazon and try it out for the first month.

We already know how NGE screwed the game... It's becoming more WoW everyday, not only techincally.. Also the community.. WoW is a good game but there are too many kiddies which annoy. Same kiddies are now in SWG.

And it's not fun at all... System completely sucks.

This game is not worth playing.  If you get a free trial, certainly give it a whirl.  But of course the Space Station is not at all what you will find on the planets. :)  Much broken, still, and what they offer is limited.  Great exodus of people over the past year probably drew a large portion of devoted players out of this game, although some people have recycled to see the changes or because they reached the end game in other games.

But do not pay for this game.  Between the free trials and what they give away for free later you can save a bit of money.

As a Vet of the game who now HATES it let me give you this advice:
Ignore the vets.  We bought, played, and loved a game that was destroyed by the NGE.  We are all biassed.  It is a TOTALLY different game than what we bought and enjoyed.

That said:  Since you never played the old version it is entirely likely that you may well love the NGE.

I know I know I'm a horrible person for telling the truth :)

Give it a try, there is a 10 day trial.  Download it and give it a whirl.  If you like it... buy it.  If not?  No sweat.

Personally I won't go near it with a 10' pole... Doesn't mean it's a bad game though.... just not a game worth my money... it may be worth yours.  Who knows

    Wow.. I agree with Elnator.

Just remember.. the free trial is the BEST part of the new game. It all slides downhil after that.

The most important thing to know about SWG is that it is no longer even a Star Wars game.  SOE has trashed the canon so much, it hardly even resembles the movies.  Just a few examples:

    1.  The game is set in Ep. 4-5 when jedi are all but extinct, but everyplayer can be a jedi, that isn't any more powerful than other characters, from day 1.

    2.   Obi Wan's blue glowie, who's purpose is to help luke defeat the emperor, gives quests to imperial players, even imperial jedi,

    3.  All sorts of items that don't fit in the time period the game is set are prolific.  (ex Clone Trooper Armour)

    4.  The PvP rules allow players of the opposite faction to kill your factions NPCs with impunity (thus negating the existence of the GCW).

    5. Particle effects look more like a fantasy/magic based MMO than a Star Wars one

There are numerous examples, where SOE has decided to blantatly trash the Star Wars aspect of the game, despite their insistence that its more "iconic"

I completely disagree. Downloading, installing and playing the trial was a complete waste of my Saturday. It would be criminal of me to recommend anyone try this nightmare. This game is the worst of the worst. If you are looking to try a FPS with lots of actions and no bugs try www.planetside.com/reserves It is free and I feel right recommending it.
