How much do you pay attention in MMO's?

The basic question is this: Do you remember/care about the names of the weapons/gear you can buy in your MMO of choice? Also, do you remember the names of the main areas you characters currently reside?

Because quite frankly, I generally don't, primarily because I just don't care. I have played a number of MMO's and I am currently playing WoW, EQ2 and GW (I know, not an MMO blah blah blah) and I never really pay attention to the names of gear I have or anything of that nature. I play MMO's because I like leveling, I like getting new gear that has higher stats then my previous gear and I like the social nature, and that is about it.

These thoughts came to me last night when I was half-heartedly monitoring the chat in WoW and was amazed that people were remembering the names of items that certain bosses dropped and where to go to find a so-and-so and I started wondering if it was weird that I didn't care about any of that stuff.

What are your thoughts on this. Do you care about the names of objects and lust after certain pieces of equipment or are you more like me and kind of mindlessly play MMO's....

Well that really depends, Like in Dark Age of Camelot all the best loot is dropped from the hardest monsters at the highest levels. (I am talking about artifacts) These were usually hard to complete if you didn't know exactly how to do them. So yes, it was good to remember which items were dropped from what, otherwise you would be fighting the wrong Legendary Monster for the wrong legendary weapon. But no I don't really pay attention or care. I just keep a small memory of each one so I don't have to look up the correct scrolls that go with the correct artifact everytime I want to (or have) a new one. (Im kinda leaning all over the fence on this issue)

hmm, I have to admit I don't have that anymore. back when I played Ragnarok Online, I could name every mob by heart (and trust me, there are a LOT of diffrent mobs in RO), I knew every card, every wearpon, every map. I also knew what every mob would drop. *sigh* such good times...Its such a shame a first time mmorpg experience is a one time only

When I played EQ I used to track what dropped off what mob, and what mob lived where in what zone. With EQ, being a loot-orientated game, you more or less had to do that. Other games, like CoH, that's not an issue at all. It'd be fair to say, that most MMORPG's that have been released since EQ don't have the hard and fast loot tables like EQ did, like Horizons, etc.
