space cowboys, probably the most unique Korean MMO in existance, the combat/flying system is pretty damn good. Good balance of gear, player skill and character skill.
Spacecowboy/Planetside, though neither are really that good for it, Spacecowboy is fun but for a better aircombat I'm sure there are lots of games about.
Thanks for your suggestions so far. Yes I would like to be able to get out of the aircraft and im looking for the type of game where you don't race all the time, one where you can do lots of other things on your feet, and the flying would just be one of the many things you could do at any time you want. Not so much centered around space either, im not really into that, just piloting relatively normal types of aircraft through the sky.

As much as I like PlanetSide I think someone looking for a flight simulator type of game would be extremely disappointed with it. As the aircraft can hover and fly both sideways and straight up or down they're.. well, I don't quite know how to put it, but they feel more like choppers without gravity.
If you ever played that old sci-fi shoot'em up Descent you'd have a good idea of what it's like. Allthough you can't spin around your axis, instead you'll always be somewhat aligned with the ground.
I'm sure I'll get lynched for saying this (don't care), but SWG's first great expansion - JTL - now a standard part of the game, is one of the greatest space flight action/sims in my opinion, and I've played many. Despite the graphics and action, the things that make space combat in SWG stand out are:
- Ships are highly customisable, and every ship has a multitude of components necessary to make it flyable, from weapons, armour, to engines, capacitors and much more. Most ships can also be painted and given other textures.
- Pilot professions grant special abilities for space combat. Plus droid engineers make astromechs and flight controllers which allow you to use pre-programmed chips/commands, adding further tactics.
- SWG has multi-person ships, meaning you can take up crew/friends in certain vessels, such as the YT series, mining ship and the rebel/imp multi-person ships. These MP ships can also be decorated inside, just like houses. A good crew is also necessary for some of the harder missions. Generally gunners, operations co-pilot, and an engineer for fixing plasma-leaks and repairing systems damaged in combat.
I don't much care about all the negativity surrounding SWG. Honestly, the NGE is shite, and it needs a lot of work to make it right again. But the space part was by far the best expansion they made, and is still a hell of a lot of fun to play. And even if you just like cruising around in space, looking at the 'scenery' and collecting ships, I think it's definately worth a look.
Once you get yourself in an alliance and pay for an aircraftspacecraft, you have full flight sim style control of that vehicle, they are all VTOL atm, but there are plans to add wheeled aircraft.
Graphics and sound have been traded off for high-realism flight, orbit and space physics. So if your one of those people that isnt totally sucked in or easily fooled by graphics, its worth a try. All of us are more than willing to help and advise you on getting into the air.
Any questions about the game I would be more than happy to answer.
It has not been huge with a large number of people, the reason being is that things can appear to be a little unclear at the start, but the game has been running since April 1st this year, new content is pouring in all the time and new player friendly content is been worked on as we speak. The developer is very often online and in-game and fixing issues on the spot.
I would love to write a full review, but I dont have enough points yet

The Rise playerbase is small at the moment it only started in April, but the more that we can get playing the more fun the game will get.
Rise is nothing to do with levels its all about skill in terms of flying, there is not much in the way of combat at the moment as there are not enough to make it have any point, but there are weapons and you can hurt people hehe.
If your patient Rise is worth a try
Also I play WWII online and yes the flight simming in that is pretty damn good, thats worth a look too!
Just to add lafitte, Rise also has a full physics space model in a REAL vacuum and realistic atmospheric re-entry aswell as a full real physics engine for atmospheric flight.

Planetside lets you fly aircraft although i don't think the aircraft physics are all that good.

Good luck finding that game you want.
Cheers

How long has this game been there? And how big is the subscriber base?
As for space cowboy, that game seems to turn me off because at always, higher level always wins against lower levels.

Give me lights give me action. With a touch of a button!
Try WW2 Online. Very realistic flight model. If you like "old school" air fights, you will love it. U got fighters, fighter/bombers and bombers.
EDIT: Oh and btw. since you will be in air all the time... Graphics will not matter that much since in the air everythign will look nice.
The Rise playerbase is small at the moment it only started in April, but the more that we can get playing the more fun the game will get.

WWIIOL (Battleground Europe) - Its got a good flight model, and its a solid game.
SWG (Jump to Lightspeed Expansion) - The ONLY part of SWG thats still worth a crap....but the ground game may push you away.
Jumpgate - The only game out there with spaceships in a REAL vacuum(which takes some getting used to)....solid game.
Planetside (See above posts)
If there are any others, I'm not aware of them, and cannot attest to their quality.
Good luck!!
