Although I think I'm a bit more of a fan of WoW's then El is.
I did try to play it for the 30 day but to be honest, it bored me more and more every time I logged in. I found the UI OK but nothing special, the classes we're ok but nothing special, character creation was about as bad as it gets now days (a real sin) and as El pointed out in an earlier post, there's absolutely nothing to do OTHER then quest and try to find groups, no world exploring, no real role playing and community wasn't all that fun to role play with.
I might come back if they actually add a world but constant instancing completely took all the fun out of everything for me, so yeah, it would take some pretty big changes for me to consider comming back.

One of these days we're going to wind up playing the same MMO at the same time and just have to get together to hang out and roleplay :)  LOL

Personally I just got DDO (A guy at work won 2 free copies in some contest or other somewhere and gave me one because I was telling him about my free-trial bonanza LOL!!!)  So I have some time to monkey around and see the higher levels of the game now.  I kind of like it but it's just not worth a monthly fee yet.

Personally I'm just kind of puttering around various trials (and since I got it free I'm just considering this a 30 day free trial :)  The account is already 'cancelled') and free MMORPG's (see sig) till the next gen MMO's come out later this year and early next year.  I'm watching Hero's Journey, Vanguard and Infinity as well as a couple others that may be out by then.  Heck if Inner Sphere Wars keeps moving along I'll even have a battletech game to play soon :)  WOOHOO!!!!! ((((((( HUGE BT ADDICT ))))))))

Anyhow, yes as I have said many many many times the problem with DDO is if you're tired of running instanced quests (which are fun typically by the way) you may as well log off as there's nothing else to do.  Also, most of the POPULAR quests take a pretty decent chunk of time.  There's really no such thing as "hop on for 30 minutes and hop off" unless you're just doing the ***lame*** solo quests, and they really are LAME, certainly not something you want to subject yourself to more than once or twice.   DDO needs more casual friendly content.  Once you get past level 4 or so the 'casual friendly' stuff seems to dry up rather rapidly leaving you spending time looking for a group... spending time waiting for the group to finish forming/get to the start point... then doing the mission.... The quests typically take anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours.  The gathering of the party generally takes 15 to 30 minutes.  So, minimum, you're looking at an hour or two time committment to play.  Which isn't BAD but for the good quests you're looking at a 2 hour commitment on top of party gathering time.  Not to mention finding replacements when the critical tank or healer inevitably catches spouse aggro and has to bail (happened 3 times last night during a quest I was on, made the damn thing take 4 hours).

Anyway, it's not a super casual friendly game.  Right now I'm enjoying it but I'd never pay a monthly fee for it.  It just isn't fun *enough* to justify it.  If I have to pay a fee I expect a game to give me things to do that don't require massive time investment and more variety than "do quests all day".
