You would be better off asking that question here , since this is the semi - offical DAOC boards but unless your a die hard RP person. I would stick with the classic servers.
DOAC is still the MMO I judge other games by, My first and still my favorite.
As for "role-playing" on those servers I cannot really say. I can say that the RP servers probably have a nicer and more tight community than you will find on any server outside of the Co-Op server.
While I've not played in some time, I still spent nearly 3-4 years on the RP servers so I'm guessing they've not changed apart from the mass exodus. That said, you generally won't find too many actual roleplayers but you will usually find an older, more mature playerbase.
I say usually, because the PVP/IGN board drama queens were on the RP servers too. There's no escaping the "elite" that pee in a bucket and don't shower. In fact, a lot of them realized that they'd be king of the mountain on an RP server and decided to stay there.
Still, my best days with an MMO were with DAoC in it's pre-ToA days. There are/were great people on those servers.

the RP server I play on Guinevere is alot like a normal server.
It's just that people tend to keep to themselves more on these servers.
If your looking for an RP experiance DAoC Guinevere is not for you. Not many ppl RP on these servers anymore
There are hardcore roleplayers, just need to find them since they're a community of their own.
Most people who play on the roleplaying servers do so because there are less jerks, kiddies and silly character names.
