    ok the good first.

PVP is exciting, there arent a million weapon/combat skills to use in the game BUT the ability to manually control your character to dodge things such as spells, ranged attacks, and even melee attacks makes PVP frantic. On top of the fact that almost everyone even melee classes will be using magic to debuff in PVP....well PVP gets quite awesome.

    now the medium

Tradeskills are ok....cooking is pointless except for dyeing, fletching and alchemy are GREAT for a ranged character, and really anyone for alchemy.

    and the worst.....

Population: This game is a grind, one big grind. Back in the day there used to be hundreds of people in a few small areas trying to grind...the exp wasnt great but the community was so the grinds were very fun. Now the servers are very close to empty. You will see people saying "all you have to do is look for people" but come on, its an mmorpg, you shouldnt have to be "looking" for people. There is almost no localized trade areas, hunting...etc. Sure every now and then people will group up to do a quest, but not all the time.

I guess the biggest hint about population would be that there is a general chat for the ENTIRE server and it is very much devoid of talking....

This game used to be beautiful before it made some turns from the worse and lost all of its population (the first not completely but partially leading to the latter).

    What?

What world do you play on? I know that tonite alone on Solclaim I hade to turn /cg chat off because I couldn't read /a chat there was so much talking going on. There was a group of 18 doing the Harbinger quest, 2 different groups doing faction quest, and countless morons in the marketplace practicing PK for the upcoming live event on the 30th.

No localized hunting area's   What about the 3 Egg Orchards always full, 3 Path's of the Blind, Ravenous Vault, Insatiable Vault, Arabar's(sp) Labratory, Tusker Lacuna is always camped, Tusker Holding always has fellows going for mid level players. The Matron hives? The Vissidal Isle everyone out there "Gold" hunting.

Asheron's call is not like other MMO's where only 2 to 3 places produce the best loot and XP. The land is huge, the loot system is bar none the best in any MMO. (The rare system blows though.) So we the player's don't all have to camp and fight over the 1 or 2 "Uber" spots like other MMO players do.

If you listen to quoted poster you would think that as soon as you login to Dereth you'll see tumbleweeds rolling by you. People have said since year 1 that AC is on it's last leg. DAoC was gonna kill AC, Anarchy Online was, Asheron's Call 2 was, WoW would, Well it's over 6 years now and AC is still here  The only MMO's that are older then AC are Everquest & Ultima Online.

Striving to and surpassing Darkerknight's gimpness.

solclaim has the best population so far as i can tell.  People run quests all the time, but if you are a new player you are looking at probably 2 months of playing solo until you level up enough to group with folks.  AC has the best quests of any game I have played.  Only DAoC ToA quests and trials compared to them (before Mythic made the ML trials all easy).  They are tricky and complicated and hard.  Give AC a shot. It is alot of fun.

    Play on Solclaim
