Originally posted by Jerek_ 6 and 7, largely issues of the past. They both still happen but no worse than any other game I've played and better than many; this issue was largely caused by wolfpacks lack of funds in the beginning. 4 and 5, this has always been a weak spot for SB, especially for new players coming from other MMO's. I remember being totally confused about movement in my first week, but it hasn't been an issue in three years for me now. Its just one of those things, you adapt and it stops being an issue or it doesn't and you stop playing I guess. 2, this game really isn't about that, and 99% of the players wouldn't have it any other way. I started with an existing guild on Death server but also played on my own on Mourning. I meet plenty of people and was in a guild before I left the island, and while the guild I came with on Death is long gone, my mourning guild still exists and I still know players there. The endgame however is where SB shines and how its intended to be played; More of my friends are people I fought against and came to respect, then joined with later. 1, the point of the game is guild fighting, and there needs to be something to fight about. Sure, the beta guilds got the jump on things by knowing locations, but a few months into the game that was old news and no longer much of a factor. Everyone's been on the same level for years now, and I don't believe there is one single beta guild in its original form or even close left in SB. Guilds change, adapt, merge and breakup, it happens.
mostly to me it sounds like your judging shadowbane by issues that haven't existed or mattered in almost the entire life of the game (aside from mouseclick movement, if you really hate that one, I guess you're right hehe) and that, not to be a jerk at all, but SB maybe wasn't the game for you if you enjoy long grinds.
Well it isnt that i was looking for a long grind but when you level too fast to make friends in a game that requires friends to survive its poor design. Again if you didnt have friends/guildies going in you are forced to ally with people you dont know and may not get along with or get ganked repeatedly. I dont remember what server i started on but most players i grouped with would barely speak and were racing to 20 to join guildies and race to 50.
Aside from the design issues what made me cancel after the 30 days were the technical problems and ui setup. I tried a free trial about a year after cancelling and went to the under 20 area and was still rubberbanding and lagging and never saw a single person. Im sorry but i dont pay to play beta products. SB may be all cheeries and whip cream now, but it sucked at release and still had the same tech probs a year later.
Again, if you can work through all that and get to sieges and mass combat maybe the game can be fun. I couldnt.
I havent rubber banded in a long long time. Even at a bane where there was over 100 people in the same area, just days ago, I didnt lag. Hell, we were outnumbered, and finally won after about 5 hours of fighting, due to the enemy logging out and reduceing there numbers (had people loggin on both sides, including myself, even tho it was my town, RL > game <-- can you say that for these other games that are out?)
SB is not "cheeries and whip cream", thats another game that pretends its about War when it isnt. SB was built by players wanting to create "the next big thing" after UO was trammalized. They had alot of heart, and little programming knowladge.
Now with SBG reformed with some of the best developers out there, maybe they can make a huge diffrence with the game(which they made GREAT strides allready in the past year).
SB is the only true MMORPG on the market, where the player matters instead of doller signs.
The definition of insanity: doing the same thing over and over expecting different results.
