PvP

I've never played this game, but have heard a lot about it from my friends. It sounds interesting, but it seems to be lacking a lot in PvP. From what I've heard, actually, there isn't really much PvP at all... besides that whole Ballista thing...

How does it work? It must be weird since you spend all your time lvling and learning strategies in PvE... then all of a sudden you have an event that's entirely PvP? How do you practice for something like that? I've usually played games with more PvP like Lineage and RFO... so I'm kinda curious as to what a PvE oriented game would look like.

thats what makes the PvP in this game interesting since the game is set up for pve you have to come up with some interesting strategies in pvp and unlike other games where 1v1 is pretty viable no matter what class you are in Ballista and Brenner you have to work as a team and use your personal skills and teamwork skills to win the game and its not always the team with the most kills that wins its the team that utilizes the kills they get to the fullest. Say for instance i only kill 1 person the whole time but off that 1 kil i score 5 points and some other guy kills 10 people but doesnt always score when he gets a kill and when he does he only gets 1 point my team could still win easily. For me the main trick is to work with team members to get the points trying to go in and beat more then 1 person by yourself is not gonna work cause even if you beat that guy your chances of making it to the goal alive are slim to none if you took a lot of damage from that guy. But i will say this if you are a pvp player who like to pvp more then anything this is not the game for you its just another thing to do in the world SE has created and really there is so much more this game has to offer then pvp.

yup. although i've never participated in them, i know for sure that they require some intense strategy. people are talking about it all the time in my linkshell and i've read a lot of articles on it on playonline... especially about the tournaments, which are pretty hard-core. the prizes for the tournaments are pretty sweet, too, which is quite an incentive for people to get good at pvp.  so yeah, ffxi does have a pretty complicated pvp system. it's just very isolated, unlike that rfo game you mentioned, which i think is pretty much all pvp.

i wish the different factions could compete more competitively and even discourage diffrent faction parties.
